Great chat. Graig’s Dad’s Mantle PSA grading story speaks volumes about the folly of chasing grades vs visual attractiveness. PSA is the Enron of card grading services.
There is SOOOO much I wanna say…. I don’t even know where to begin. So I’m not. I’m just so glad you both found each other in this world. Awesome stories about your dad‘s and your childhood. Please do this at least once a month. #IWasThere
I was there. Great chat. Love the family connections. Great Dad stories. And love the wisdom about where card collecting falls in the hierarchy of life priorities!! You two killed it. Thanks
Great video guys. It’s funny how Graig talks about the Becketts as a thing of the distant past, when they still come out today and I get them every month and they always have the show calendars in the back. It’s been going this whole time.
Thanks Brent! That's great! I didn't realize that either. I'm going to subscribe to Beckett. It had it as a kid, but didn't know they still printed them! I appreciate it!!
@@returntocollecting Yeah man, y’all both should. Just something nostalgic about getting it each month. You can get the vintage collector version instead if that’s what you are interested in. There are so many cards now, that the regular one only has the modern stuff. But it still has articles and hot list and show list, etc.
Great time as always, Darren. Thoroughly enjoyed talking cards with you, but even more enjoy our friendship. Thanks for being a great friend and sharing your stories. I look forward to meeting your dad. No doubt he’s an awesome guy like you.
I was there! Darren and Graig, it took me 4 sittings to watch this, my drive to work is 25 minutes, haha. But I really loved this conversation and the messages you told other collectors! I knew some of the stories being friends with both of you but definitely learned some new stuff. Loved hearing about Graig riding his bike to the card shop as a kid, so cool! Loved the advise Darren gave about budgeting your money and not being stupid, well said! Look forward to more collaborations in the future!
Thanks Theo! It was a blast chatting with Graig about our collecting history! Glad you enjoyed! I appreciate that you got through 4 sittings! Thanks for watching, but more so, thanks for your support!
I was there lol. Such a great discussion & awesome collecting stories. My favorite part is the wisdom & reminders of being fiscally responsible. It’s just a hobby & I’m passionate about it but everything with family comes first & then hobby. Great video & love this cardmunity.
Thanks Doug! It was super fun having this conversation with Graig! Really enjoyed the discussion! Glad you enjoyed as well! I appreciate you watching and commenting!
This was fun to watch! I am actually a subscriber to Graig's channel and found this video over there, and I am glad I did because I really looking forward to watching more on your channel now that I have found it! I also got back into the hobby in 2018 when I was gifted a card. I do vintage football as opposed to baseball, but I feel like you and I approach collecting similarly. I also had to laugh because a couple years ago when I picked up a few of my grail cards my wife asked me the "are you done yet" question as well (and got the same answer you gave. Lol!). Anyway, good stuff and I am glad I found your channel!
Thanks Justin! Glad you enjoyed the video! Its always great doing a collaboration with my friend Graig! Great story about getting back into collecting. Its funny that our wives had similar hopes for a small collection... Its great that you had a similar response to that as I did! I hope you continue to enjoy my videos!
Awesome discussion guys, really enjoy both of these channels! Couldn’t agree more card collecting being an escape. Going through my collection or a bargain box at a show is such a stress reliever
Graig’s story on his dad’s Mantle card grading adventure reflects my view about downgrading of iconic cards so population counts are “protected” & kept artificially low & market values high by the grading companies. For them, it’s all about profit & by keeping supply low while demand is high.
One more comment, Amazing story on your Father's grading, Graig ,sadly we put such an emphasis on the number as you say just an opinion. Darren, what great parents!
I was there! Another great one. Loving these team ups with the two of you. I’m right there with you both about starting out with ‘86 & ‘87 Topps. My guys were Mattingly and Eric Davis. I’m having fun picking up some of their “junk wax era” card as nostalgia. Do you guys pay up for PSA 10’s of your 80’s heroes’ RCs, or settle for 9 and save money for vintage cards? Also love what you said about the hobby being a positive calming escape from the negative politics that seems to be prevalent these days. I don’t even know your political affiliation, and that’s how I like it, because I might like you less if it’s not the same as me LOL. But that’s what the hobby is about. Let’s put all that aside, and find common ground, positive ground, enjoying the hobby together!
Thanks Rob! Glad you enjoyed! Its always fun collaborating with Graig! That's awesome that Mattingly is one of your guys! I loved collecting him as a kid and even more now as an adult! I'm planning to do a video on your question, but net net , it depends on the card. I really appreciate you watching and commenting!
Love listening to you two, much more interesting hiw you both got into the hobby. Is this live stream? if so its 3:and 4 am in Colorado and California.as it is 6 am here in NOVA . Nice to wake to you guys. Was with you the whole way
Ha! Thanks Larry! We actually recorded the other day. It was too early to do it live today!! Glad you enjoyed the video! It was a blast talking about collecting with Graig!
I love the origin stories. You reminded me of the 1 Nolan Ryan card i have. Its a novelty card with the question one side " Who is the only player to get 4 hits off Nolan Ryan in 1 game?". The other side has a picture of him on the mound with Robin Ventura in a headlock, punching him in the head.
rickey henderson is the reason why a lot of people worked out back in the day. of course arnold too. bodybuilding became in the forefront. and not a taboo anymore. @14:20
Awesome conversation fellas. I love hearing the history of collectors and how and why they collect what they do. Codeword spumoni! 😂
Ha! Thanks Billy! Glad you enjoyed! It was a blast chatting with Graig! I appreciate you watching and commenting!

I agree! His story is crazy! If frustrating that things like that happen, but not surprising. I appreciate you watching and commenting!

You guys work well together....Your father's raised good guys! Their involvement in your experiences shows in the Joy you have in the hobby!
Thanks William! I really appreciate the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the video!

100% agree! Unless you're a heavy hitter in the hobby, they won't give your iconic vintage cards a 9 or 10. Thanks for watching!
Very fun! I was there! Love the discussion and the stories.
Thanks Brian! Glad you enjoyed! I appreciate you watching and commenting!
Awesome!! Appreciate you listening to the whole thing!!
I was there and loved every minute of it!
Thanks James! I appreciate making it through the whole video! Glad you enjoyed!

Thanks Bob! Glad you made it through! Hope you enjoyed! I appreciate you watching and commenting!
Cmon. I gotta wait another day???
Sorry John. You can listen to it on your flight. You'll get most of the way through by the time you land.
I was there
Thanks for watching! Glad you made it through the whole video!

Yup! He was a beast! He was so fast! I appreciate you watching and commenting!
These conversations are basically micro-aggression humble brags to a kid who had nothing in common with a dad, and had to hide any collecting I did…😂😢
Oh man, sorry to hear that. I hope that things are better now.
Hello
Hi Titus! Thanks for watching!
I was there
Thanks Shawn! Glad you made it through it! I appreciate you watching!
