- In this video I will show you how to replace the brakes on a Toyota Prius. Most Prius 2010 - 2020 are similar, no need for fancy 20 minute UA-cam video for brake pads changing.

31 years old. Finally had the balls to do it myself thanks to this video!. It was kind of easier than changing the oil on my prius
This cracked me up. Exactly how I felt
Brakes plus quoted me $600 to fix this. Followed this video instead. 30 min and $40 later, I have brand new brakes that make zero sound. 10/10, thank you. Also liked how to the point this video was. Sadly a rarity these days.
Exactly!
don't be scared just do it, I like that it puts confidence to the viewer
You are the Goat I appreciate you so much just saved me 300 I was terrified till I saw you do this. Just finished both sides up in under an hour thank you Thank u thank you
Awesome Video ! I like to use the old pad to push the piston back in .
Do I need to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery?
I was going to suggest using the old pads to push in the caliper too. great video thanks.

Yup this is the way my Dad taught me!!! Thanks for the video.. just making sure I didn't forget anything 😁
Thanks!
Excellent video very informative and that cute dog at the end was like icing on the cake
I suggest checking the slide pins to make sure they are not stuck or stiff. Thanks
Thanks bro! Did this this morning. Work perfect!
Like that positive attitude😀, life is good. Done. 👍
Thanks for the video.
my new brake pads come with rubber shims already.
Do I need to put the metal shims also?
Thx for the video friend! - What about the back ones? I heard they were a lot harder. Toyota wants $700 to do all 4. That is the price if the rotors are good. No telling what it would be if ya needed new rotors or they have to turn them or resurface them.
I have to make a move soon so hoping I can find a video on the rear ones now. Thx
Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
Might as well take an extra step to remove the calipers and lube the pins
Thank you Sir for making it look so simple
So professional, thank you 👍
Excellent video!
how much torque for brake bolts ?
When I changed the first set of brake pads it was ok, then I did the other side and the piston came out of the caliper, I tried to put it back in and it won’t go in, then oil came out?
Note: These are the FRONT Disk Pads. The Rear mechanism is harder due to parking brake system, etc.
hi nice video. do new brake pads usually come with new anti squeal shim hw? or what hw you refer to?
Nice video! What kind of grease was that again?
Don’t need grease, I wouldn’t do it because of how water wind your risking of getting some grease on your rotor and brake pads , 👍
@@DoItYourSelfDudeI’m watching at work and can’t blast the volume so it was hard to hear lol but I thought you applied that oil to minimize the squealing?
Failed to mention to grease the pins yet I can see clearly that he did grease the pins. I highly recommend doing that. It's very simple once you take out the caliper
Thank you brother
That grease is for the bolt pins buddy!
Which wheels have brakes on the 2015 prius? Is it all four, or just two?
All vehicles have brakes on all 4 wheels… all you need to worry about is the front
What was pushed back? Why it wasn't shown?
It was the break caliper that compresses the breaks pads.
Brake piston
And if you don't grease the slide pins the rotor will warp.
What u mean? Do u have to remove caliper to do that?
@@ImmiSuccess all calipers move on slide pins. Most Calipers are bolted to the slide pins. These need to be taken out cleaned and greased with new grease. Sometimes the hole the slide pins are in need to be sanded out or even honed out a touch.
@@ImmiSuccess at the very leased one needs to make sure they move very freely.
Caliper pins are nicely greased...
Ok, so what about replacing rotors?
Not necessarily sir , it’s a Toyota , lol , I wouldn’t worry about it I’m at 250k miles and haven’t replaced my rotors ever since I bought the car at 75k miles , blessings 🙏
My gen 3 has 361k miles, original rotors. Only replace rotors if car shakes during braking.
😅😂Ever since I started driving with no rims/tires. The brake pads were easier to change.
смешные вы американцы 😂
Boom!
