      I have changed my brake pads since my first car Honda CRX in 1990s. Saved so much during the years. I watched to make sure there are no surprises. I'ved owned a prius since 2008. This is my first brake pad change.

    Hello everyone and thanks for the very useful video..I add that after replacing the pads you must check the brake fluid reservoir. You have to do this because when you replace the old pads with the new ones the level of the fluid in the reservoir rises above the maximum, so you have to suck out a little bit of it with a syringe.Bring the level back below the max line and put the fluid in a container so if you need to add more later, it's there. When reassembling the front piston, push it in by hand, leaving the brake fluid reservoir open. Do the same thing with the rear brakes, open reservoir cap and rotate the piston clockwise with simple pliers. I hope I have also given my useful contribution.

    The warning about the battery needs to be in your wheel hub video, the reason I am here is because my brake pads fell out somehow during that job and I wondered how the piston had moved, your videos are great and I know it is hard to include every step sometimes (especially for a seasoned mechanic)

    Very clear video! Good job! Want to let you know I am deaf. I read the closed captioned what you said on the video. On 12:30/13:39 the cc said "put a torque the lug nuts 280 foot pounds...." I knew 280 ft lbs was not correct! I asked my hearing son to listen and he told me that you said "80 ft lbs".

    This was very informative. I had 1.5 mm on my pads. 167,310 miles on original Prius pads in a city that is mostly steep hills. Unlike a flat environment where one can coast to a stop; I find myself needing my pads at all the stop signs and traffic lights at the bottom of hills. I have heard of Prius’ brakes lasting for 300K miles. Must be in relatively flat cities.

    I looked up a video just to see what the tool is called that depresses the caliper piston. This video shows a conventional caliper piston. My 2015 prius has a piston that will not depress with a C clamp. There is a twist mechanism on mine. Once I realized why the C clamp method was not working (the first time I replaced the brakes), I used needle nose pliers to twist the piston in. But this time I wanted to find the proper tool. I'll keep searching.

    Can you drive around with the 12v battery disconnected on a hybrid?
    So I should press down the brake pedal without the 12v connected?
    The answer is no on the both questions.😂
    But I got the hint inderectly that it is more important to make sure that the wheel sides are correctly mounted than connecting the battery 😂❤

    Besides the pads, which other parts are recommended to replace? I went online and they have also "anti rattle kits", "Caliper repair kit". Maybe special grease?

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  4 роки тому +1

      +Sal Espinoza Thanks for checking us out! This would all depend on the condition of your other parts. Sometimes you will need to replace the rotors with the pads, the caliper should be re-greased when they are serviced just to ensure they are properly functioning, and anti-squeak can be useful even on new parts to prevent the noise from even starting. If there is no issue with the other parts you do not necessarily need to replace them, other things may be more of a preventative maintenance fix while you're already under the vehicle.
