I have a Sony (A7riii) and Fuji’s XT50. I appreciate Sony for its technology. As you noted, they lead the way when it comes to autofocus. When I was looking for an everyday carry camera, I considered the A7CR, but I ended up going with the Fuji for a few reasons. As I placed a big premium on light weight and small form factor, I felt that an APSC camera would be best, as I could get plenty of reasonably small and light primes without breaking the bank. There are fewer options for small lenses with full frame. In addition, I was interested in giving the famed Fuji colors a whirl. Finally, I really like using joysticks to set the focus point. The Fuji has one and the Sony does not. Overall, I’m happy with my decision. While I wouldn’t mind snappier autofocus and a bigger battery, the Fuji, when paired with a compact prime is a great everyday carry.
Love both cameras, 2 different experiences. End of day, time is money and who has the time anymore for post process unless your life and career revolve around sitting at the PC. The Fuji gives me what I want right out of camera, no fuss, no muss and for the record, my iPhone gives me the video I need so my Fuji is my intuitive fun snap grabber and portrait camera.
I had the XT50 for a few months and sold it for the A7cr(love the camera). I had some problems with the 50 using the AF tracking in C mode. It didn't work in vertical position and while using it in a very hot country, the camera had a big failure. It happened in Sri Lanka. Dylan Goldby(youtuber) had also a lot of problems with the XT50 in a country with high temperatures. The files from the XT50 are more clinical than the files from my X100F(never gone a sell it). Thanks for the great video.
Outstanding comparison! If you were filming yourself would you go Sony because of the superior autofocus? LOL, I typed this right before you answered why you would choose the Sony for video.
For filming yourself with the X-T50 - I have used the smartphone app to do a quick check and make sure I am in focus, centered, etc. it would be better to have a fully articulating screen but the app is “good enough” in my experience.
Very good comparison! Coming from professional video (although stopped many years ago), seems the Sony had less noise. The color graded video looked stunning. However the Fuji photos are so beautiful out of the camera. Hard choice!
Loved the review!! As I was already neck deep into the gmaster ecosystem i went w the a7cii, but no regrets! Great stills, great video, especially w the 35mm gm/85mm gmii combos😊 looking forward to the next video :)

If anyone has STRONG opinions about either one of these please please please please let me know!
I tried the disks on the Sony a7cii, and for me they feel more mushy vs my xt5. Plus, the viewfinder feels higher quality on the xt5. One thing I do like is how the a7cii can have a simulated shutter feel
@@stanleygabrel1045 No, I was referring to LOG video (SLOG3 from Sony and FLOG2 on Fuji). That's really the only type of video I shoot on these cameras. In regard to overheating, I've never had a problem with either of these cameras. Just make sure you set 'auto power off temp' to high in the settings, and you should be good.
I have the Sony A7cii. The autofocas and image quality is superb. But it has no soul. Rather boring to use and kind or awkward to shoot with (button layout, no joystick etc). I love the shooting experience with using a fuji. Kind of tempted by the xt50 as a walk around.
I’m worried about Sony’s build though. I have the RX100 III and the lens doesn’t open all the way. Scuffs abound too despite being babied in a body suit. Visited Sony Center to try the 7CII and it, like many other silver models there, have very worn out buttons.
@@radinsyah1574 I totally understand your concern. I'm not sure how roughly the A7CII models you tested were used before, but I haven't had any wear and tear issues with mine. I think with heavy use over time the buttons will show signs of wear for sure, but so far so good and I've had mine for a little under a year. Generally, I think black versions of these cameras will probably show less wear.
Well you can still use APSC lenses, but you would just need to put you camera in APSC crop mode. It's not a pancake, but I also have the Sony 11mm APSC lens. It comes out to about 15.5mm on my A7CII and A7IV
@@BrayGrayy As an A7CR shooter, I use APSC lenses all the time when size is a concern. Still gives me 26mp and BTW, you don't have to put the camera in crop mode. Just leave it in AUTO and it will know which type of lens you have mounted and adjust accordingly.
I have to correct you on your statement of "Sony is king of autofocus". I own several Sony (incl. the A7CII), Fuji, Lumix, and Canon cameras, and Canon's R1, R5Mk II are the current kings of AF.
Well, nothing in this world comes for free. With FUJI X-T50 such a tiny pixel, a very short shutter speed is needed. In photos with high magnification, even at short focal lengths of this lens, micro-blur is clearly visible. So with longer focal lengths and lower lighting, it is unlikely that you will be able to take clear photos with this camera handheld 😪 In my opinion, the optimal resolution for aps-c matrices is 26 - 28 MP.
This video should make no sense if Fuji wasn't selling the x-t50 for such a high price. A7c2 is way superior in almost every way, but I do like how Fuji looks as well. However you can achieve the Fuji looks for half the price with a used body.
@BrayGrayy you're comparing cheap ass (Fuji cheap ass style) camera with aps-c sensor and reduced ibis to literally a last year flagship in a tiny weather sealed body. Basically use case scenarios would be very different. In terms of size a7iv is unchallengeable by Fuji simply due to their sensor size and horrible AF.
