      I definitely remember riding the bus home from school hearing that BS had kicked Ozzy to the curb and thinking that they fucked up then going to Walmart to purchase Blizzard on vinyl then seeing the tragedy of the plane crash that killed Randy and prayed for Ozzy not to end it all in one way or another.

    I saw him the summer before. He was precise, tasteful, imaginative and fluid. He knew how much space he had to fill, and he did it without resorting to mindless noodling. In 1981, he sounded very innovative. Too bad his time was so short. Ozzy was fortunate to have him and he knew it.

    After watching the few live concert videos on youtube of Randy, it is amazing how he never plays a song the same way twice. He is constantly challenging himself to find more beautiful and badass ways of playing these tunes. Check out that lick @ 11:31. Just a throw off lick, but man, what a beauty. He could just throw things in like that which is why he truly was one of the greatest guitar players ever to live. Now, if we can only find that Holy Grail which is that perfect clear video with great sound of one of these whole concerts. There has to be one out there. Until that day, we will have to make due with these fan made videos that are now priceless glimpses into what a fire breathing dragon Randy was.

      It's really sad how little there is to see of Randy. I'm very thankful for this post but like most of the short supply of clips with Randy it's very blurry and choppy. What's really sad though is that Sharon had professionally filmed some of the shows on the Diary tour with a three man camera crew yet couldn't care less about releasing any of them.. completely due to her not thinking she'd make enough money back.

    • @mbass718
      @mbass718 4 роки тому +7

      Also..I agree... Whenever you hear Randy live he's always throwing in extra licks, harmonics and stuff in the moment that make each time a little different which is the mark of the truly great gtr players.

    One of the greatest memories of my life...seeing Randy Rhoads play live. I saw the show in Birmingham, Alabama on March 6th, 1982. Randy only played 2 more shows after that. We were still talking about the concert the morning the DJ came on the FM station and announced the plane crash. Many of my classmates, myself included, were left reeling. That was one of the darkest days of my life. I'm so thankful I was able to be at that concert.
    R.I.P. Randy...you will never be forgotten.

    Damn, seeing that iconic lift of RR by ozzy hit me hard. We all were robbed of something special. Something the only happens once in forever. Ozzy lost a son, a brother, a friend, part of his very being. Changed him forever. We were robbed of something too, can you imagine what this man would have created if he lived for another 30-50 years. We lost so much. Robbed of something grand, epic, phenomenal, I can only think of one guitarist that put his very soul and immense passion into his art and expression in comparison to RR and that’s Jonny greenwood. People like this only happen once and we were her to witness it. How lucky are we?

    I was at this show, January 24, 1982 at the Rosemont Horizon (now Allstate Arena) in the third row in front of Rudy Sarzo. Took a bunch of photos. First time being that close to a big stage. The sound was incredible. I loved being able to hear Tommy Aldridge's drums right off of the stage. Angus Young's nephew ( I think) was in the band opening for Ozzy that night. The band name was "Starfighters" The cover photo for the Ozzy Live Tribute CD with Randy was taken at this show and is right at the 6:00 mark. I got a photo of that from the third row seat I had.
    Thanks for posting this great memory. And, of course, at 7:14..... ;^)

    I often found heavy metal guitar parts very repetitive and similar from one band to another (some exceptions of course, i love some metal music no offense) but randy rhodes is just incredible. I have listened to his 2nd album with ozzy so many times... he is doing a lots of effects, very versatile style and you can see he is playing what he has composed. Technical but never boring, melodic but agressive when needed, never toned to mask the bass lines.He is inside the music, his mind his body, the guitar, it s a whole thing. This guy should have had alot more to say...incredible player and composer, i wonder what he could have done if he would have worked with bowie in the late 70s.

      @joemamma416 6 років тому +2

      as a musician i gotta say you nailed it with your comment. randy was a brilliant musician first and had a grasp of music theory and composition that goes far beyond just shredding. its been almost 40 years since blizzard of ozz and if we didn't know any better they could release it today and it would still sound modern. i can only imagine the musical doors he would have opened for everyone if he hadn't been taken so soon.

    I saw them on this tour on the west coast. Man the vibe in just the parking lot was amazing. The show is still one of the best concerts I ever went too. I saw Ozzy's Blizzard Of Ozz, which was with the original band. They were fn great. Long Beach Arena with Motorhead opening up for Ozzy. Not bad 1st and 2nd shows i saw. Man I miss Randy. They were very special to me and most of the kids like me. It was our Buddy Holly moment when that plane crashed. I saw Ozzy after, it was good but, Randy built the house they rocked in.

    • @mbass718
      @mbass718 4 роки тому

      You're very lucky... especially to have seen the original band with Bob and Lee. I was about 16 when Blizzard came out and I had Tix for the Diary tour at MSG but the accident happened about two weeks before. To this day it's still the saddest most heartbreaking show I've ever been to and I wish I never went. I saw Ozzy with Brad Gillis after for the Speak of the devil sabbath show and then with Jake E Lee..but that was it. Never saw Ozzy again cause what was the point without Randy. Brad and Jake were great players but not them or any gtr player that Ozz had could touch Randy's playing imho

    • @JW-zs1pz
      @JW-zs1pz 4 роки тому +1

      @@mbass718 You were the kids i was talking about. I saw Ozzy several more times too: at Irvine Meadows with Brad Gillis , US 83 with Jake- followed a huge guy to the front row. It was crazy hot and we were packed in very hard, had bruises on my chest from the barrier. I saw Zack in Denver at Red Rocks. Biggest bummer was when Randy passed for sure. He had quite a impact for sure.

      @@JW-zs1pz It's crazy how it still hurts to this day that I just missed seeing Randy. The shows with Brad and Jake were really good. They did an amazing job but it still didn't really touch the intensity that Randy had. Zakk I've never really liked..to me he's all flash and shredding without the melodic phrasing and harmony that Randy, Jake and Brad had. I remember seeing the crowds packed in at the US festival..that was some site!

      Rob M Thats a shame... I wholeheartedly agree Randy was the best, He's my all time favorite. but to deny yourself the enjoyment of Jake E Lee's playing is a travesty. Jake is a truly awesome player and has always been put in the shadow of someone that NO-ONE could ever hope to replace...

    • @mbass718

      I know.. it's hard to fathom just how incredible he would have become. IMHO he's already the greatest metal gtr player to ever live. He definitely would have done one more album for Ozz and I can only magine how amazing that would have been. He very likely was leaving after the third album and I'm pretty certain he would have went on to revolutionize classical guitar as that was his passion.

      rtornellort How about seeing them live, like I did. With opening act Def Leppard. In September 1981 in Davenport, Iowa at Palmer's arena. It was the first tour and the both had only one album out. Best concert I've ever seen. The sound of Randy's guitar was amazing. during the solo, he sounded like a church organ at times. I was going to go to Ames, Iowa where, he bit the bats head off but, couldn't find a ride. Damn. Still the concert is locked in my mind and seeing Randy was a privilege. Yeah, I'm gettin' old. Still glad when I was born in 61 and don't have to listen to the crap nowadays.
