    My new 2021 did the same thing and I was wondering why until now. I was riding enough so that I was able to free the rotor and pads but that clunk sound is scary. No more parking brake in the garage, especially after riding on wet road surfaces. Thanks for solving my mystery, Doc.

    This happens to my car from time to time in winter. The pads get frozen stuck to a rotor if they were wet. There is no harm in this, so no need to worry. Just have to take care when taking off because of a sudden jerk caused by unsticking.

    I used to work for the RailRoad, freight service. I could hold a hundred cars with a stick. It always amazed me that the wheels did just crush the stick. These cars would have had their brakes bled and as long as you stuck the stick under the wheel as the cars "stretched out" it worked. How much does a Tri Glide weigh

    If you park your trike in the garage on a level surface or even a slightly elevated surface wet, why not put the trike in first gear and not use the parking brake?

    Heat can also cause this condition. Put it in gear release the parking brake install wheel chocks. Rotors can get extremely hot.

    Hey Doc got a question, hope you can answer. I’m getting mix answers from different dealers and videos. I have a 14 CVO Ultra I want to upgrade motor with screaming eagle parts it is still under warranty. I was told by a dealer that if I upgrade now that my warranty will be void if something happens to motor or drive train. I know SE parts are warranted for one year will the motor company void my warranty. I also plan on getting another warranty before it runs out in 18 months. Very confused. Sincerely Mike Kuhl.

    I have a 2015 freewheeler I purchased from previous owner a few months ago. Trike was riding great until a few weeks ago my bike just slowed to a stop & everytime I released the clutch to move forward it cut off! I checked the e brake & nothing seemed off about it! The 2nd time this happened was riding back from a bike/car show & my daughter stated after we stopped in a town not far from where we left the first place, the brake light was on for quite a distance even tho I had not touched the brakes. Went about 6 miles out of that town & my bike did the same thing as the first time, slowed, stopped then when trying to move the engine cut off. We couldn’t roll the bike forward or backwards, there was no rain. A friend took it for a ride down a side road & kept hitting the brake pedal & it finally released the brakes. Not the front brakes but the rear brakes. There are no issues w/the front brakes. He thinks brake fluid needs changed. There is over 3000 miles on the bike. Im afraid of it happening again in the middle of the road in the dark like the last time. What do you think?

    Hi - my 2019 freewheeler trunk is stuck & won't open. it is not locked but I've tried using the key and calling it all the names I can think of. :) I've taken it to two HD mechanics and they can't figure out what the problem is either. Have you got any suggestions? One guy suggested drilling a hole in the side of the fender!!!!! Please help me if you can. Thanks

  • @nhzxboi

    The rotor is simple cast iron. It could be made better by as some chrome or nickel to it. Same thing is true for cars/trucks. The OEM ALWAYS uses the cheapest material available. They all do that. Sorta of cool how you explain it away as normal here,. It is normal but not necessary. Cast iron rusts just by breathing on it. It works but pure cast iron is not the best material for a brake rotor. But, it is very inexpensive...hence why it is used by the OEM.

    Hey Doc. Always enjoy your videos, especially ones re Tri-Glides. As to the 'rust' situation I get what you are saying. On my 2018 Tri-glide, I ride almost daily in the spring summer fall. Often when I have had the parking brake on (level or incline) when I restart and roll backward there is a "scraping/grinding" sound from the rear tire/rotor/pad? It is not wet. Why is this happening. I have also had problems with left front calliper sticking and ruining two HD installed floating rotors and rear rotors. Dlr says sticking calliper not the problem even though rotors are discolored from heat. Maybe I have two problems, maybe the linked brakes are a huge mistake from HD? Maybe callipers should be warrantied. Hope you can help me out here.

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  3 роки тому +1

      In my opinion, what you are describing is the result from old brake fluid. The old fluid is slow to help retract the brake pucks. H-D pads are semi metallic so that with the slow retracted brake puck will sound like grinding. You might have to rebuild the brake calipers because old fluid leaves residue on the rubber square rings that help retract the brake pucks. Dirt deposits can also hold the brake pucks out. I can sometimes remove the brake pads clean the puck area, push the pucks in, replace fluids and pump and bleed the system to save a rebuild cost. Thanks ~ Doc

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  11 місяців тому

      Sir, HD did not offer a trike in 1990. So I have very little knowledge. I would think your rear trike suspension is independent. Find a local shop that will figure how to remove bodywork so the structure can be examined and possibly adjusted. I agree it is a struggle to find someone to work on older bike, especially modified to a trike…..Doc

    Having owned a 2014 HD Tri-Glide, l felt that HD should have developed a security feature, that once the parking brake is applied it could not be released by someone looking to cause trouble in a parking lot. Someone in the know could release the parking brake, shift the Trike into neutral and cause it to roll down a incline.
    We now have a 2014 Can-Am Spyder RT Limited, which has a security parking brake feature, the parking brake is applied before turning off the ignition, and it cannot be fooled around with, until the owner turns the engine back on. Enjoy your videos. Cheers. 🙂 🏍 🇨🇦

      Have you installed the HD cool flow fan? We install this on all our police bikes. Your part # 26800128. It seems to help. Heat is a big issue. The expensive option is to install the SE full exhaust system, because it moves the catalytic part to the mufflers. Thanks ~ Doc

      I cannot fix what is not broken. If you have owned over sea manufactured bikes and you are new to the Harley-Davidson transmission, welcome to our world. If you have owned your Harley-Davidson for a while and a noise has started "Harsh Clang" take it to your dealer. While they are diagnosing, test ride several dealer bikes. Compare and be assured this is normal. Thanks ~ Doc

    Hay doc, my poor bike 😔 I’m having a problem with the electric current going to my front turn Signals and fuel gauge on my dyna low rider s, I blew a fuse when installing new indicator, i’ve replaced the fuse and installed the indicators as instructed but can’t figure out why they are not working also the button that registers my clutch being pulled in is not working either, are there any other fuses I could have blown? Any advice would be greatly appreciated or if I could have your email to speak to u that’d be great, thanks 👍

    • @LowCountryHarleyDavidson
      @LowCountryHarleyDavidson  3 роки тому

      You have possibly grounded a power wire or the ground wires for your turn signals is missing. As for your quest to find another fuse is in vane. You have messed with the Body Control Module. This controls all wiring to turnsignala, clutch switch, indicators...all switching goes through the BCM. I am hoping you installed factory indicator lights. The BCM only recognizes factory parts. Try to fool it and it will shut down until you remove aftermarket parts. My e-mail address is at the end of every video. Thanks ~ Doc

I was down there today and found out you all don't sell it anymore ...so now I plan on using another brand synthetic ... Ive watched alot of video and seen yo get conflicting opinions about they type oils for the motor , transmission and primary.. I have put the 110 ci screaming eagle in my bike after about 1000 miles ... I'm looking forward to her your opinion on what oils you recommend for my bike. John this is a heated topic around the coffee machine and on the Net. Each person has their opinion and facts. I am sure if you want to continue with Royal Purple a search on the Net can find you a seller. We here use HD products. We are a Harley-Davidson dealer. My opinion of choice of Oil includes how easy is it to get on the road. I change my oil often so HD 20-50 Gear oil in my transmission. I know plenty of riders that swear on Amsoil, Mobil 1 and other products. Do your own research, choose the oils that fit your budget so you can change oil every 5k....Doc
