EPISODE #6 | WHY WE MOVED TO NEW BRUNSWICK & THINGS TO CONSIDER
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- Y'all finally get to meet Jas! We get asked all the time, "Why did you guys move from the 6IX (Toronto) to the 506 (sticks)?" We finally answer why we moved New Brunswick, and also list off key things things to consider if you want to move to rural New Brunswick. We can't really speak for moving to one of the cities (Moncton, Saint John, or Fredericton), but we have an idea. So if you're planning on moving to New Brunswick, just message us!
New Brunswick is packed with beauty. The forests, the water, the amazing coastline, just everything about this place is magical, and we are happy we call it our home. This is Atlantic Canada living. Leave a comment below if we missed anything, or if you have a question. :)

@@6IXto506 loads to consider for sure, hopefully moving March or so next year ;)
Keep in touch brother!
Local new Brunswicker here, I really enjoyed listening to your perspective on our beautiful province. Us locals sometimes become complacent to the great things we have and how lucky we really are. Seeing a huge uptick in real-estate sales in my area of south western NB. Mostly folks like yourselves. Selling your condo in Vancouver or Toronto is like winning the lottery living here. A heart felt welcome to all of you thinking of moving here.
@David35445 I missed that lottery by 2 months but still did ok. Houses here are still cheaper and so are property taxes but the thing that makes your province so enjoyable are exceptionally friendly people like yourself. Thank-you
The background music in this video is way toooo loud. Can barely hear what you guys are saying.
Amazing video. Only one commment, the background sound is very loud. Tks for show to us your new experience.
Thank you!
Thank you for doing this, great video. Perhaps next time you can lower the background music just a tad more as I strained to hear you speak. Keep them coming :-)
Thank you! Yeah we also have to learn to talk louder to the camera. Hahaha
Thank you but I got distracted by your background music, next time tone it down please.
Thank you. It's been a common comment on this video. Will do it for next time! :)
True!!
We will be relocating to NB from NS in October. So glad to see this.
Awesome! Where in NB? Hit us up when you do!
From the 6IX to the 506 will do. Looking within 40 minutes of Moncton. Husband is a big foodie... and a great cook so.. we’ll have to do something fun. Instagram scarycary17 or suebythesea17 . 🙃
From the 6IX to the 506 PS: we found something in Albert Co but it sold before we could get there.
Where in AC? It's where we are!
So it looks like I'm not the only one wanting to move my family from Hamilton to new Brunswick. I just wish I could come houses shopping. But this virus bs is. Preventing us. Keep up the videos enjoying the content .
There's a whole bunch of us! Some new friends moved from Hamilton about a month ago! Hit me up on IG!
I don't have the ig or anything just my wife does i found it to be to distracting being a self employed trades men. I definitely will keep watching and hopefully I can come visit that way soon.
A lot of hotels are offering isolation rates, call around.

We are in Ontario and bought our house virtually. We’ll see it later this month
Hi guys. I live in the Cape too. I came across your videos. Welcome! It's a beautiful part of the province.
How is the weather at New Brunswick? Is it very cold??
Hey brother! Awesome vid! Thank you for placing me in the info box!!!!! Keep it up! I've subscribed!
Thank you so much! When I get around to fixing my setup, I'm gonna make a video and give credit to you! Much love from Canada!
Definitely considering this move from Toronto to Moncton. Just waiting for the COVID province restrictions to lower to visit the area. Awesome video.
Thank you
Me too. when are these restrictions coming down to at least 1 week self isolation?
You guys are really great, I totally love the adventurous mindset. Good luck to you two!
Thanks for the videos. We are coming from Toronto area in a couple months. Been following yours and other videos who have done the same. Can't wait!. 👍
Thank you for such an honest feedback, I appreciated it! We are seriously considering moving to NB from ON, as we are very close to retiring... thx again!
Shout out to Cooke's! I love that you can get, nails, ground beef and BOOZE!!!
Hey, thanks for sharing! Very helpful
Amazing content, you guys are so down to earth. I hope you are enjoying this province. Were all friendly out here.
You both did a great job. We live in the United States but purchased a second home in St.Martins, New Brunswick because we fell in love with the area. We plan to retire there in a few years. We both grew up in the suburbs of Toronto and our families in Ontario are completely unaware of New Brunswick.
I was born in Moncton New Brunswick i now live in Winnipeg. I'm too high maintenance to live in rural area, but think it's cool that you both are doing it. Some small cities i would consider boring in Canada to live in, as far as Moncton New Brunswick goes i never found it boring because it was so close to Dieppe and Riverview and one hour train ride to Saint John New Brunswick which is great place to visit in summer time. But I never lived in rural area while in New Brunswick
Lol it was definitely a lifestyle change. I (Markoshi) was super high maintenance, with over 200 pairs of shoes, and 5 different Louis Vuitton bags, and had haircuts every two weeks. But all that shit, no one cares about that stuff in rural new Brunswick. Hahaha
What matters, is that you have top quality tools and a nice John Deere tractor. Bahaha
I cannot stress how much I love to see people choosing New Brunswick. They come for the cheap housing costs and stay for the quality of life.
For those who want vibrant cities, the province will eventually become more developed and populated (even since 2016 it has come miles). Someone once told me that we are about 5-10 years behind NS and that remains accurate. NS is a 2.5 hour drive if you want a weekend getaway. With cheap house prices, you can afford to vacation a lot more often than other cities.
Good video, my wife and I moved here from Ont. last July during the pandemic. We sold our house in February, just before the pandemic, so we missed out on the housing boom. Moved here to retire because of cheaper cost of living. Taxes on our property are 1/3 of what we were paying before, hydro is about the same, found a doctor in 6 months and yes you will have to wait for a contractor. I would also mention that along with fees and safety checks on vehicle's and trailers every 2 years, it does add up. I have 2 vehicles and 2 trailers. And yes, they do charge you a deposit on all glass and plastic but only refund you half. They say this is a poor province, but McCain's and Irving are doing well.
Where did you live in ON where your property tax was a three times more that that of what you pay in NB? You are very lucky to have found a family doctor!
@@rps1689 We lived in Orillia and if you lived on the lake your taxes are $6000 a year. I knocked on doors and called alot and got a Doctor that way.
@@johnoakes8742 Wow! That's a pretty high tax; must have been a pricy property. In Victoria BC that is what you would pay in property taxes for a property worth about 1.2 million.
Was your property on the lake a primary residence?
I got a NB specialist that had a 3 year waiting list, within 3 months by having a specialist in BC put in a word for me. No luck with finding a family doctor yet.
@@rps1689 The houses on lakes are all high taxes, it's the price you pay for living on the lake. My friend sold his for $780 three years ago. His taxes were $5800 a year. Doesn't matter if it's a primary residence, a cottage or a third house, the taxes are based on the property value not residency.
Hey, Markoshi and Jas, good to see you guys. Thank you for your information about moving to New Brunswick. You mentioned that there is limitless potential, I totally agree with that, I feel I find like-minded friends. I am also planning a move to New Brunswick and start a new career there, I think new Brunswick is an unexplored area for me to start a new business because the metropolises like Vancouver and Toronto are hard to start a new business with limited capital. I will keep following you guys, Thank you.
Great vid! Our family moving there shortly from Barrie. Where abouts are you guys??
Thanks! We are in Albert County. Where are you guys moving to? And by all means, please let us know when you arrive!
@@6IXto506 darn virus put a wrench in our house hunting plans. We leave for NB in a few weeks and are just renting a cottage near Shediac (right by the ocean) for a month or two. We have to quarantine for 2 weeks and then we are FREEEEEEE to find our home. It's a cool adventurous feeling to have not knowing where you are going to end up living! We are pretty open to where we live... so nothing is nailed down. We are leaning on being 40min or less from Moncton. And for sure dude. We will keep ya posted! If you have any suggestions let us know :) My wife and I are musicians and being near a town with a local pub with live music would be nice. Soooo much to consider. I just wish it would come sooner.

We just sold place in Ontario on Friday and bought a house in Saint John on Sunday. It closes February 2!!
Windjammer Restaurant in the Delta Moncton... you’re welcome. Enjoy!
My wife and I are both from the maritimes, currently living in SWO and seriously considering a move back to NB or NS.
Curious what your DJ setup is... vinyl? Digital?
Love it there!
DJing setup, I have both. Learned on vinyl. Switched to digital to make it easy so I don't have to carry a bunch of records anymore.
Me and my husband want to make the move from Hamilton but have never done something this big. It’s a bit overwhelming we also have a 3 month old so that might be a factor as well lol
Thank u all. I’m ready to bus out of this place Toronto. Sick and tired of staying inside. I love the outdoors. I think NB is gonna be a good move for me. I’m setting for summer to get the heck out. Although right now I feel just pack NOW and go. 😤.
Do it! We basically did!
Hi, really enjoy hearing about your move to NB... I am also considering that for sometime in the next couple of years (or so)... I was just wondering about the Internet Service that you are using?... as this would be an important service that I would need, and although there are several IP companies out there, is there any particular company that is better overall?... with some good high-speed internet?
Awesome Video! Very Helpful
Good answers! Great job.
Happy you’ve moved to beautiful NB :)
I’m so thrilled to let you know, now that raking season has passed, that you can stop raking leaves (unless you have an aesthetic preference) - it’s better for the planet and the grass.
It’s been a bit since you posted this video so I hope you’ve been introduced to these foodie gems in Moncton - Clos, Euston Park, Brumes du Coude, Oriens, Saigon Thai, Tide & Boar, Gahan, Taj Mahal, Kanpai, and Tokai Ramen are all great options if COVID isn’t affecting operations. Do you have a hook on CSAs and fricking fantastic upicks near you yet?
Also... have you heard of the underground lake near you yet? It’s cool.
Please do homemade dumpling and other delicious foods videos 💗
Lol I haven't raked since September. I gave up! Hahahaha
@@6IXto506 Hurrah! High five.
I just discovered you (via Times Transcript) and am binge watching your journey. Already subscribed. 🙂 very interesting, the things us rural locals take for granted here. I have so many comments, but I’m sure you have discovered many solutions and answers since this was made in 2020. Hoping there are updates to this exact video in the ones coming up for viewing. Welcome to NB! PS.the odd psycho haters are here I see. Covid seems to have brought them to the surface. Hope you have been able to block and ignore them.
Moving to New Brunswick from Ontario in 2 weeks! Cya around!
Keep the content coming guys! We're thinking about moving east too. What about ethnic foods?
Thanks for sharing! Just a thought on your comments about leaving “off the grid”, I leave about an hour from Toronto and is the same, I mean, well water, wood heating, propane, no sewage, etc. That said, I don’t think that’s a “deal breaker” or something unique of leaving in the country / rural in NB. Same goes for internet, and again, we are just an hour from the “Big City” Really appreciate you guys sharing your experiences!
Definitely. Thing is, housing was still expensive, and if we were still in the area, we would probably be wanting to go back into the city for work, etc. At least moving provinces, and into the forest, we have no choice but to stay here. Hahaha
Hi There, could you let me know what is the moving company and phone that you're using to moved there? We are planning to move this year ..thanks
Super cool video!! We’re moving out in 5 weeks
Welcome to Newbrunswick! When people ask why you would move here my answer is "why not".
Great answer but then the video would be short! Haha
63 more sleeps then we will be at our new home in Saint John.
Bye, bye Ontario hello
506!!
Omg I love you guys so much because you’re living my dream!! My dream is to move out there from Ontario as well but covid put a stop to that. I’m SO depressed here I’m dying to move out there. And seeing your videos gives me hope and happiness. I’m so happy for you two, right on for what you’re doing! And when I move up there if I’m not on the other side, lol , I’ll be coming to your under the stars bonfires! I’ll bring some good eats. Looking forward to more videos from up there! Thanks a bunch guys ❤️
Awwwww! Thank you so much! We got lucky. We came here before the madness. You NEED to move out here asap! Where in Ontario are you now?
I know my souls is literally screaming to move out there!!! Come spring if covid is still keeping the borders closed I’m buying site unseen. Apparently if you just buy a house there you can move there. You just can’t view. I’m in Port Colborne. 25 mins out of Niagara Falls.
Hey! Can we ask what movers you used?
Tony's Bistro is awesome! Calactus is also a cute and unique option if you are open to vegetarian (I am not vegetarian and still love it there). I am biased since I was born and raised there but take a weekend trip to PEI in the summer for excellent foodie options!
We haven't been to Tony's, but Calactus is so good! Thanks for the reco! Where in PEI would you recommend to check out?
Good choice and enjoy
Hey guys i know its too early to ask as you are just moved there .. we are thinking to make a move from ON to NB soon . Plz make a video on jobs and employment sector if you can.. 🙏 thank you ..
That's a great idea for a video! Thank you :)
Was that a Radler from the PumpHouse?
Hey guys got another question...we are looking to move to NB in spring next year, depending on the Covid restrictions etc. Just wondered what sort of wild life you have seen since you move to NB, i.e bears, spiders, snakes? Personally I don't mind all that but my wife is freaking out a bit hahahaha. Also, I'm a landscaper/builder and wondered what the job market was like in NB many thanks
Wtf. I thought I answered this already! No snakes. We get deer roaming in our backyard, birds, groundhogs. There's probably bears deeper into our land, and moose, but nothing around the house, or the immediate forest. Bugs are inevitable though. Haha
The people in Moncton New Brunswick have this big city vibe to it, like they've forgotten they are only a big city in terms of New Brunswick. The kids grow up (not all kids, but a lot of them) trying to be gangsters, drug dealers, rappers they do a lot of drugs, wreck cars. There are a lot of homeless people. 'It's very thug life' I find, or sheltered upper middle class. This was my hometown. Great place to go visit, not a great place to go live. I think anyone that haven't visited Moncton New Brunswick is making a mistake. I have never lived in the rural area of New Brunswick. Groceries and shopping is expensive. Yes Moncton New Brunswick is affordable compared to rest of Canada as far as housing goes.
I was born here in NB and love it here. If you want to have a slower life it's great, but realize that you're moving to a province that is 83% forested, and will have in the rural areas, all the associated wildlife ( spiders, black flies, mosquitoes, dog flies, horse flies, mice, squirrels, raccoons, porcupines, white tail deer, moose, black bears, and the wolf coyote hybrid), oh yes, the only native snake specie is a garter snake which is non poisonous and is very scared of people. With all that said you will find most of the population in the coastal communities and along the larger river valleys. With very picturesque scenery, generally, with a nice mix of urban, farmland and forests all within a half hour drive of the larger city centers, what more could you ask for.
Lots of bugs in the summer, but the summers are short; basically NB is one big tree farm with bears, deer, and moose.
Did you guys considered any other provinces? Alberta , for example.
I'm from Calgary originally, and my wife is from Vancouver.
Have you been to Nova Scotia or p.e.i.? Any comparison would be awesome. Thinking of moving to New Brunswick from Orillia On.
Been to both. They're lovely too. It's just we fell in love with our county. Lots of opportunities out here.
@@6IXto506 Great Video, Could you please let me know about the Farming business opportunities in NB for newcomers and in winters also, is this the right place for getting into agriculture business. ?
@@sakshambansal7383 hey there! Thank you so much. While I don't know too much about the farming industry here, I could certainly put you in touch with some people! Are you on Facebook? Join this group: facebook.com/groups/nbinnb
Do you have any input on BC vs NewBrunswick as I'm trying to decide with my family which school to attend UB or UNB also any input Fredricton?
Jas is from Vancouver, and no matter which way you look at it, NB will still have cheaper housing costs. We haven't really explored Fredericton yet too much, but I've gathered from other people that it's also a great place.
Do thorough research. If you are bringing family keep in mind access to healthcare is very limited to newcomers especially if you need a family doctor and most likely you will have to travel longs distances to see a specialist not to mention wait much longer than you do in BC. Purchasing a home is a deal in NB for now, but the cost of heating it and paying taxes on it are much more than BC so make sure you have a good income be it from a job or a pension. You will be almost taxed double on your provincial income tax and seven times more on your property tax than you are in BC; BC has a much better generous home owners grant than in NB. UBC is an expensive option, but well worth it if you can afford it and shared accommodations.
I'm between Alberta and New Brunswick, they both are so beautiful!
I'd move to NB. I was born and raised in AB, and while Calgary is where home is, I just know that in due time NB will be better between the two.
Alberta has more to offer in scenery and quality of life and chance for advancement; there is a reason why NB is one of the least sought after places for Canadians to live.
Agreed an Untapped market. High-speed internet is now being extended more provincially wide.
Yes, your music is too loud. Drowning out your voices. Hope you guys are happy and delighted with your move. I don't like Canadian winters.
Just bought a house there. I am in Kingston Ont. Move in - in 2 wks. Stoked. Spent most of my life in Muskoka. So weather is non issue. Actually looking forward to it. l hav no relatives there , l dont know a single person. and In the BOONIES. Looking at retirement. Especially now.

No.
Hi! Where in New Brunswick are you in? My family also wanted to settle to a place not so close to the city. I want our kids to grow up having a simple life.

How are the COVID restrictions for people moving from the USA?
Great question! I believe moving is allowed, however just like everyone moving from other provinces to NB, you have to quarantine for 14 days.
I'd definitely look into the government of NB's website: www2.gnb.ca/
You also might wanna check CBSA: www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/menu-eng.html

Decent Video👌originally from around sussex but have lived close to Vancouver for the last 8 years. Moving back I think base on the affordability and peace and quiet as th3 biggest reqsons. Nothing beats silence and nature for mental health! Space and affordability defanetly helps the decision! Im not sure if theres any other place in canada as peaceful as there!
Nice video. Good information. But your background sound is irritating and too loud. You dont need the music. We need to hear you talk & not listen to music. Keep up the good job. All the best to you'll.
I bought a place in North Moncton, now I grew cold feet. Closing was today and I don't know if I should just stay in Toronto and rent it out.
Totally up to you! But it would be nice to have more people here!
How far from Moncton do you live? Would it be easier if you were closer to town? If you were connected to city water/sewage? Do you think the extra costs (electricity, tax, etc.) in the end still benefits compared to low cost housing?
We are about 40 minutes from Moncton. When we were looking for properties, this was the one that was perfect for us, regardless of proximity to a city. Of course it would always be easier, but if we wanted to be closer to a city, we most likely would have moved Vancouver, Calgary, or would have stayed in Toronto.
In terms of costs, it's relative. We were in a condo back in Toronto, and used less electricity and water, and now that we have a house, we use a tad bit more.
But we moved out to get away from the city, and be more involved with our nature surroundings. There will always be prod and cons for everything, it just depends on what the person(s) prioritize.
@@6IXto506 Thank you for the reply! My husband and I are thinking of moving to NB. One more question: Do you think there would be any issues for non french speaking? I mean just in general, not work related. And have you visited Fredericton and Saint John enough to make a fair comparison? I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on the differences and similarities of the 3 main cities, especially climate differences. There really isn't much for reviews when I do a search. TIA :)
@@pinkhalo1 I’ve lived in NB my entire life! I would say, not being able to speak French is not a problem at all, I rarely use French. Most people can speak English anyways. Moncton & Fredericton are pretty similar in terms of weather, very humid in the summer. Saint John has less snow, but more rain, but typically cooler in the summer. Hope this helped a little :)
hey you got your NB shirt on hey i see you
Hard to hear you two over the background music.

Hey, this was helpful. Thank you!
I'm wondering how much racism and/or close minded thinking you've seen/lived? My partner and I are hispanic and part of the LGBT community, so we are a bit worried about these issues...
Don't worry! Haven't received any yet, and we have alot of friends the LGBTQ+ community! It's fine out here. Where are you planning on headed?
Is it diverse there? (Interracial couple)And would you say it's a good place to raise small children
Not that diverse. Raising children here is OK, but stay away from polluted places like Saint John; it can be hazardous for small children and seniors. It is highly likely when your children grow up that they will leave, as this is one of the regions of the country where it is hard to keep youth and in the workplace.
@@rps1689 wow good to know, thank you so much!
Thinking of making the move from Toronto. It is not really livable on one income with kids.
Things to consider, very high taxes especially property tax so make sure you have a good income even if your house is paid for, poor access to healthcare and limited services especially if you are a women. Long horrid winters with only four green months, customer service wanting, and overall an economically depressed region of Canada.
Could you please let me know about the Farming business opportunities in NB for newcomers and in winters also, is this the right place for getting into agriculture business. ?
@@sakshambansal7383 To give you an idea, NB has a frost free growing season from from late May to late September. In South Western BC, frost free growing season from late March to early November,
