- Опубліковано 3 тра 2016
- I had 144 kg of scrap aluminum wich I decided to melt down into lingots for future green sand casting. The aluminum was checked for magnesium with vinegar. Sorted in I.- cast aluminum, II.- aluminum pipe, sheet, wire and other. Everything was melted using waste oil burner. It took me two days to melt everything.

Never seen such a disciplined youtuber till now *thumbs up*
Love that flip over gravity auto stacker. Genius!
I really like how you’ve set up your system for mass production and safety. It’s brilliant!
I love that you use waste motor oil as fuel for your furnace. I also like the pouring and ingot mold setup as well. Impressive!
This entire video was complete eye candy. Your tools, your foundry, your fuel system, and the way you flipped over the ingots and they just stacked all nice and neat.

Not only is this a cool professionally done recycling setup, it is a very professionally done video. The editing and lettering telling what is going on is very well done. Thanks.
The aluminum smelting and printing process ... is very inspiring
now I like that not some youtubers they barely make half of your ingot, just one yea, and thats it. You sir did a hell of a job!
Now you're set up for the most bad-ass game of Jenga in history...
Anyone else love how flowing aluminum looks still when being poured? So cool,
@draggy76...meeeeeeeee! Mesmerizing!
This is so cool!! I never knew that molten metals could look shiny like that!
Best diy process I have seen online. Great job.
What's the return on your time for the amount of AL you were able to recover? Seems like 2 days and all that work would have a terrible ROI
yeah, it took me two days to melt down all aluminum, but I mostly did it to save space in my workshop.
@@mpdragon6295 It sometimes surprises me how much aluminum can fit into one ingot...
@@timothylongblacksmithing6743 good luck on getting a reply
@@dachronic6709 people are saying he's dead but I don't wanna believe that
@@TVHF_POND Yeah same. I think he either emigrated or started a family and youtube isn't his priority now. Because he was living with his girlfriend already. So i think its a plausible explanation
Love the ingot maker! That's genius! You must be intending to melt a lot more ally to go to the trouble of building that.
Great vid, Well done!
+Oil Burner Thanks! For now I am making green sand for casting, but there will be more scraping videos.
@@mpdragon6295 I use Petrobond which I bought quite a few years ago. It didn't seem too expensive at the time. The foundry store had all kinds of other useful tools and things like degassing compounds.
Not any trouble for those of us who love to build and weld. It just give us something to do for when we want to do something else
Love that ignot casting stand. Efficient how it flips over and drops them out!
Wow this is a very nice set up! Well done! Thanks for sharing
How did you make your foundry and ingot mold make a Video about each please
This is the best looking foundry I've seen yet. Would you be willing to walk us through the design and construction if it and the oil burner? Like materials used etc?
Absolutely beautiful setup you have there!
I don't know...but watching you making those ingots feels so nice. Making new stuff out of old stuff due recycling is the best! If I had the knowledge I'd do it as well.
wow... I really like your ingot setup!
It's genius!
Yes, it's a production line setup for a home business.
ikr... awesome idea
Me too, I also like his furnace, crucible handles - I built mine but his is simple but far more effective...Damn I wished I have seen this video before I built mine
how does you forge work with oil as i am starting to build a gas one but very curious about yours great job
this is sick. i wanna do this myself.
like a boss.. that set up is above par
5:56 those ingots look perfect. awesome video.
Does this work with torso oil instead of waist oil?
But in all seriousness, that's a serious lot of aluminium to melt down
great vid an set up ;-) I love ally, one of my fave metals to work with, when they first discovered how to extract an process it ( not easy then ) it was more expensive than PLATINUM :-o look forward to more vids, Subbed !
This is very satisfying to watch
This is rather impressive. It's definitely a step up from the little furnace that I have. It's almost like a real foundry going down.
I really like the crucible. Did you make it and if so, can you make a video showing how.
I am going to buy a air compressor, then I will make a new aluminum melting setup.
It was the ingot casting, flip over, drop out when cool, onto a storage rack which got me. Diabolically simple.
some of the nicest looking ingots I've seen.
Such a cool video man, love the way you put all this together it’s very impressive.....
Do you have a video on your oil burner? I would be really interested to see the setup
William Ela same here... been looking for an oil ran foundry for a long time
he links this adress: ua-cam.com/users/glumpy10
there is a ton of videos about the individual parts of his burner.

@@gabeutsecks5427 are you the real barack obama
waist oil and elbow grease is very important to use when melting aluminium
Waist oil is the good stuff, waste oil is horrible
Women love it when you burn all of your waist oil.
Don't forget the winiger
I think he is just making fun of how he writes. We can pardon the speaking part. All joking aside, it is seriously getting harder to find a person that writes well these days, even in their own native language!Maybe its the fact that this generation spends more time in social media and "texting" (which is full of spelling and grammatical errors) than actually reading books (which have to be reviewed and edited for such errors before being printed). Just a thought.

WOW! That homemade RIG for pouring and dropping is next level amazing. Great Job!!!!
What a simple but very effective was to melt down aluminium, well done and using the waste oil would make it so cost effective as well. Brilliant stuff.
I like that you use waste oil burner instead of propane. I've been wanting to build one but hard to get motivated.
To use oil is cheaper, especially if you can get it for free
Can you make a video where you go through your set up?
I think we all would be very interested to see a video about how you get the fire started in your setup, maybe show what you are using for the blower and maybe draw up a sketch of what's going on where the oil/air mixes. Last time I melted aluminum I just dug a hole in the ground, and a tunnel to blow air in, started a wood fire and forced air with a leafblower. I just bought a 55 gallon steel barrel to use in a waste oil burner project for melting and casting things for fun, and am looking at different designs and yours seems like a good one.
Pretti PC Services
I am planning to make a video about my aluminum melting setup pretty soon
Please do, very interested about that.
To reduce fat skim the top off. This will result in 2% aluminum.
Wow that coolest setup for melting aluminum I have ever seen it beautiful
So beautiful seeing that clean, liquid metal getting poured... :3
0:38 "WASTE" oil.
You have a nice set-up there as well as a safe operation. I like the tools you made to handle the hot aluminum. The large ingot molds are the way to go. Why mess with anything smaller? Great use of waste oil as well.
how do you make that foundry for oil usage? i cant find any vids for anything like it...
jake warren - any? nothing at all? did you try Typing oil burner foundry?????
Thats a really cool ingot casting set up you got there.
Truly amazing setup
May I ask if you had built your furnace and other equipment and do you have a video on the build it is a wonderful set up. I really loved this video. Thank you very much.
Yeah, his set up is sweet.
Yes everything is DIY, but unfortunately I didn't have my camera when I made my setup. But I will be making a new siphon burner an a new furnace.
Great I look forward to seeing that because with what you have looks like a real craftsman had built it. May I also ask what you are using for a crucible?
what is that dross stuff is it dirt leftover on the aluminum or some other metal in it (like a compound metal)
also why do i like videos like this so much?
99 Smithing achieved
those bars stacked together, satisfying
awesomeness I love your smelter you have set up and your ingot molds nicely done mate
Please make the music crappier and louder.
and by all means, talk softly while doing so. ty
Dude haha, what is it with all these DIY montage videos set to terrible techno
it isn't techno. it is a really really shitty club electronica!! rave garbage for intoxicated kids.

It's all THE SAME. The same slow buildup, getting faster, getting faster, getting faster, then BLEEOOO BMMBWAA BMMBWAA BMMBWAAA
What do you do with the dross after you're finished?
he throws it away.
+Jacob Paziuk HE SHOULD MAKE DROSS INGOTS $$$
loljk
Sell it to scrap yards with the rest of the iron you don't want to reuse for other projects.
couldnt he just keep smelting it down purging out the various metals?
If his furnace got hot enough. Takes a lot more heat though. Not really worth it.
So this is the first video of yours I've come across and holy shit, your setup is AWESOME! I love it! Especially the ingot flipper. The definition of "work smarter not harder" LOL
Wonderful video. Thank you for sharing it. If you ever get the chance, would love to see how you built your waste oil burner.
Dude that was fucking awesome, I wish to do what you do
how much do you sell them?
or do you keep them?
he keeps them for casting
Hugh Mungus is beast
This is the best melting video I've seen. Bravo
I love the ingot ejecting system!
Is the oil used engine oil
I also want to know it is the waste lub oil or waste cooking oil.
What do you usually do with the ingots after you cast them? They look cool, but I'm sure you won't just make them to be on display.
iliketrains0pwned He will either use it for future use which requires metals or sell the pure bricks to people who need them
Melt them again to make new pieces
what a good setup, well done...
Man I really need to get into melting metal. I've wanted to for a while now. Very nice setup there.
"Waist oil" xd
you use only oil as fuel??
Yes
how??
Air + Oil = fire
oh thnxx
I think there is a propane pilot or ignition source to preheat and burn the waste oil. That waste oil would be impossible to ignite otherwise
WOW awesome idea. Thank you for sharing this.
Great videos, keep up the hard work!
awesome video! im about to melt all of my scrap aluminium down too ive built a new more efficient foundry to do it. i have a few questions about your foundry, what is the refractory cement made of it looks like a sand/cement mixture but im not sure, secondly why is the gap between the crucible so wide if it was 3-5cm the foundry would be alot more efficient thirdly what is the purpose of the angle iron keeping the lid open? if anyone is interested in my foundry setup my a video will be released tomorrow on my channel
1.Yes that was regular concrete, don't use that, it doesn't hold up to the heat.
2.I was planning to make the lining of the furnace thicker, but then it would be immovable.
3.The the angle iron is there because it didn't get enough air and it would not burn properly.
1 Ive used 50/50 concrete sand for 2 years and it retains the hear better but lasts less time
2 My previous foundry weighed over 80kg it was in a 55 gallon oil drum and the cement was 20cm thick it to combat the weight issues i "acquired" an old shopping trolley and used the bottom half to roll the foundry around on
3 perhaps getting a blower with a higher volume but the same velocity would stop that problem
Also have you considered using a graphite crucible i used a steel one for a year and if your treat it well and let it cool slowly then it will warp out of shape before it springs a hole. However saying that i just transitioned to an A12 graphite crucible and its great
There is no need to heat the crucible red hot to melt aluminum, then steel the crucible will last longer.
at high temps the graphite slowly burns into CO2 untill the wall thickness causes structural failure, the only real need for graphite is melting metals above iron, and those are done in argon plasma furnaces. i'd like to build one soon, just allocated 1,200 in funds for my projects.
What makes it waist oil could I use waste oil instead
Warrdogg33 only waist oil will work according to this
waist oil is from the liposuction clinic...you can get arse and thigh oil from them too!
Awesome I would like to see some how to videos on how u made all of the tools equipment
Why is this so satisfying?
what affect does the magnesium have ?
I read when placed in a molten aluminum it can start to burn and bubble throwing molten aluminum in all directions
so does that make it unsuitable for melting of just more precautions necessary ?
+MP Dragon I can verify this....I was melting down some computer aluminum and accidentally put some magnesium parts in it resulting in the whole thing catching on fire and causing small explosions
thanks for the heads up x) was about to make that mistake.
David Lee I managed to repeat the process at lower temperatures and was able to cast magnesium ingots safely but inless you have all safety precautions i would steer clear
How can you tell if it is cast aluminium?
And whats the diference?
thanks
Cast aluminum is alloyed to meat industrial standards. Usually contains copper and other metals. CNC is any aluminum being machined by a computer controled machine. It is not "compacted!" We use a lot of 6061. I melt both extruded, which is almost pure AL and quite soft, not very strong. And I melt castings like intake maniforlds, heads, pump housings, pistons etc. I keep them separated because they have different properties. I use the castings for things that need more strength and that machine better.
Erik Pettersso
Awesome video. Please make more casting vids. Would love to see you cast something from all that aluminum
Very good set up nicely done
What is the part about putting vinegar on it all about?
To check for magnesium
+MP Dragon is there sometimes magnesium in aluminum? how does the vinegar react when there is magnesium present? thanks!
You could have magnesium mixed into the aluminum scrap pile. the vinegar will start to bubble on the magnesium.
oh okay, can you still melt it down if it has magnesium in it? sorry for all the questions, just trying to get an idea before I begin my aluminum smelting process.
Tate Henry
magnesium burns and it can make the molten aluminum splatter everywhere so it is more a safety issue
how did you get the aluminum
visting a scrapyard?
if you are looking for some then yes go to a scrap yard or if there is a mechanic around ask them my dad is a mechanic and we have a tonne of scrap we will never use thats not worth much at all
he stole it from your daddy
Derryl james he did
love this channel dude
i could replay the pouring part...that aluminium looks mesmerizing.
T-1000 comes to life comes to mind too
Total value: $172.
0:35 I spill waist oil every morning lol
Just subbed, this is the coolest thing ever please make more
Efficient process.
Nice bar-ingots! :D
Thanx buddy!
Wear a damn respirator when you cut up any metal
and two condoms and a helmnet and ten steel toad boots and a zika virus warning label.
Do you like cancer
lmao dafuq. what kind of question is that? Also, why would he need to do that?
Lmao aluminum isn't galvanized
Never said it was galvanized. I know a hand in my shop that worked there for 20 years and got lung cancer from poor air quality... no respirator or ventilation welding and cutting metal. Ya melted metal fumes and particles are great for your lungs guys
Can you not do the music. it's really loud and annoying, especially if you don't like that type of music.
Yeah the music is really crap and makes the video unbearable. I had to cancel out after 1 min because I got a headache.
Mute volume
Shortened : I don't like your music, but don't want to sound 100% like an entitled ass...so, "could turn it down instead of me turning my own shit down :< "
How about mute!?
neebie, lmao, open new tab, put your play list on, then mute this video, now you got the video to your favorite song, duh,,, Rookies
fine setup for aluminium melt. thank you
Ingot setup is amazingly efficient
Please pick more tolerable music next time
most songs here are copyrighted though. still a lot of songs to choose from that are better than this one! xD
I would have REALLY enjoyed just natural sounds of the forge.
i agree...
He could, but then he'd have to pay for it, and ask all of YOU for contributions to do it.
next time it should be relaxing music.
music ruins the vid, imout
perfect ingots man great skills
Awesome video! I like that furnace!
awesome! I'd like to see a video on how you made the foundry.
professional video, professional casting!
Very Nice Video! Thanks the Scrap Fam!
Best use of oil I'v seen... Great idea for furnace...
Very nice. I like your set up 😊
Thanks for sharing. I have a basic question. You mention about using vinegar the check if the aluminum alloy has magnesium in it. What to expect when you brush vinegar on it?
Nice setup
Just once, JUST ONCE would I like to hear some good METAL music to go with a video like this!!!
