If you'd like to see more about our trip including photos and more information that we didn't include in the video, please visit our website: rvtexasyall.com/region-texas-gulf-coast/visit/west-columbia-tx . As always, we appreciate you watching and joining us on this journey as we RV Texas Y'all!
From West Columbia born and raised and lived for 25 yrs and remember having a field trip to the cemetery. And I still learn new things about my hometown.
Absolutely incredible... Texas always amazes me, and I've lived here permanently since the 80s. I have barely scratched the surface! Thanks for this amazing video!
Wonderful video! You should have been a history teacher! Your channel is a wonderful channel for kids who are on the road with their parents. Please tell your mom hello. I love watching you and I am leaning a lot about the state of Texas. Thank you so much for all the information you are providing. Safe travels.
Hello Ruth. I did have fun with this tour. Appreciated Tom & Stacie covering my home town. So happy you liked this one and keep up with Tom & Stacie's travels.
I just want to say Thanks to RV TEXAS Y'all for the time they took in filming this Video. I was glad to be invited to come along on this adventure and help share my memories with you. Had more fun doing this and yes, did meet up with one particular person I had not seen in about 60 years. Appreciated all of your comments. Grammy Kay
Love when mom is on she is the sweetest. I will take a history travel with yall any day when you're doing cemeteries. We don't travel in our rv yet but, when I'm in the truck with my husband and we go through a little town I'm researching the history, it's so fascinating.
This was so interesting to my husband and I as we lived in West Columbia back in the seventies when my husband was vice principal at the High school. We loved it there and still go back to visit friends. Also the headstone of the. Mr Brown told us who Brown County was named after and we now live in Early/Brownwood-Brown County. Thanks for the great videos. Safe travels. If you are ever passing through Brown County, give us a shout.
I was born and raised in Angleton, still live here.....sorry to say I have never stopped to visit the museum. It's on my to-do list now!! I've visited most of the sights you talked about. Angleon and West Columbia were big rivalries in school when I was younger. Another great video.....probably your best yet!!!! I'm retired and just bought a new travel trailer......headed out soon. Be safe and I'm looking forward to your next video.
Awesome Frank! We’re so glad you enjoyed the video. They have really done a nice job with the museum. Grammy Kay moved from West Columbia to Angleton her junior year of high school. She met my (Stacie) Dad there. So I spent a lot of time in Angleton growing up. Congratulations on your retirement & your new camper! We hope to see you out there!
Frank, I moved to Angleton and finished High School after completing my Jr.& Sr. year (1959) First met my late husband in AHS (Don Easterling). His family lived out on south old 288 going to Freeport. We started dating in 1962 and married 1964. Hope you do get or take the chance to visit West Columbia. You will find there is a lot of history.
Kay, I graduated from AHS in 1972. I seem to remember a Don Easterling (at least I think his name was Don) who was a grade or 2 ahead of me. Being an underclassman and a band member, not a jock, he may not have even knew I existed. Related to you maybe? I will get to West Columbia and tour the museum soon.
Great video of Texas history and thanks for sharing! Another beautiful historical townsite is/was East Columbia but I haven't been there since the 80's? I hope that area has retained it's history through the years as it was like driving back thru time then!
Love how you guys go through the history in small towns as well as big. I hope when you leave the state of Texas you do the same in other states. There is so much history out there in the small towns that people never know about. Wonderful video, keep up the good work of teaching history and enjoying RV travels. Can’t wait until we retire in August and can start traveling more. Like you, I hope our house sells soon! (We’ve had our house on the market for almost 2 years)
Hey Lisa! Thanks so much! We're glad to hear that you enjoy the history and stories of the small towns as much as we do. We love that every town has a unique story to tell and we want to learn as many of those stories as we can. Congrats on your approaching retirement. We will keep our fingers crossed for you on your house selling! Hope to see y'all out there soon!
My uncle was a DPS trooper in West Columbia back in the early sixties and while another uncle was visiting them he met my Aunt who was a waitress at one of the cafe's. Your video was very interesting and I love Texas History.
We love that story, Pam! You are the second person who has commented that their aunt was a waitress in one of the cafes back in the day! We are really enjoying hearing the stories of folks’ connections to West Columbia. Thank you for sharing your story.
What a great history lesson video of our great state!! You guys do a great job of talking about the areas you visit. I love visiting cemeteries for the history. Your mom is awesome!
Thanks for your comment Arden. Yes, I am a part of History, no question about that. Did enjoy getting to come along on this experience with Tom & Stacie. Re-connecting with my childhood memories and meeting "Old" friends. Glad that you enjoyed their experience. You will really enjoy the West Columbia Cemetary. It is so Historic....
My dad is from West Columbia... Grew up going there to visit my grand parents... Great Video! My grand parents ran some local restaurants called the Capital Cafe and Dairy Treat.
Great news to share that your Dad was a "Roughneck" Eric. I do remember the Capital Cafe and of course the Dairy Treat well. Glad you enjoyed this video.
Gosh thank you so much and will have to keep that in mind. One of my favorite spots is Washington on the Brazos. I discovered it on one of my daily adventure and also went to the 150th birthday celebration of Texas. I love Texas History. William Barrett Travis's two children are berried in the cemetery in Chappell Hill, TX as found that also. Enjoyed and Y'all take care.
I grew up around there! West Columbia Elementary K-2. Did your mom experience the fire of the high school? (my older brother sure does). Aunt Hattie was a waitress, lived on Sinclair. Although I stopped by last spring for a very short stop at the Hogg site, your video has prompted me to go back and RETRACE YOUR STEPS. So happy that I've subscribed. Your presentations have been informative AND entertaining.
Hi Laine! We’re so glad you found us. What a small world! I’ll ask Mom about the fire. As often as we have visited the area, we always learn something. Thank you for subscribing and joining us on this adventure.
I too, grew up in West Columbia. Born in our home on 13th. Street. Attended school from first grade. (no kdg.) Do remember the fire. Finished High School in Angleton as our family moved in 58. Graduated AHS in 59.
Thank you for your comment Son of Dad. Always like to tag along and share when I can. Keep watching as I know Tom & Stacie will find many more interesting places to add on their travels.
Anyone interested in history and headed to TEXAS will find this channel a wealth of information, especially if you are an RV’er and want to know about campgrounds, etc. Columbia, TX is now on my list of things to see. Thanks!
Thank you Jack!! We are so happy that you enjoy our channel. And we are thrilled to share Columbia with everyone. When you visit, tell them we said Hi!
Thanks for your video. Enjoyed the interesting facts about early Texas history. Its impressive to see a community come together to restore important structures from the past that are so often just torn down.
Thanks for you sweet comment Cheril. I appreciated you saying I remind you of your mom. Had lot's of fun working this video with Tom & Stacie. As a native West Columbia person, born and raised, I feel they did a Wonderful job sharing this video with y'all. Hope you will have the chance to visit West Columbia..

Question I have not heard of Columbia I have heard of West Columbia is it the same town?
Yes. West Columbia and neighboring East Columbia were once just called Columbia.
Did you guys make that flag pole that’s on the back your RV or did you buy it somewhere
Hi Bob! It is available on Amazon. We have it listed in our Amazon storefront: amzn.to/2H9nJuj. We've had ours since 2014. It has held up really well.
