    Hey y'all! We've been wanting to do this video for a very long time. We believe that knowing the accurate weight of your RV is super important to staying safe on the road. We've weighed each of our RVs shortly after we bought them and every time we make major changes to the amount of stuff we carry. Thanks for coming along with us. We'd love to hear your experiences and tips for RV weighing. Stay safe out there y'all!

    Long long ago in the 80's, I was a truck driver. Many times before I would go into the states weigh station, I would get on the CB and state to anyone on the channel that I was heavily over loaded in sail boat fuel, realizing that the station monitored channel 19 on the CB. I would always get signaled to go to the inspection area. Well, sail boat fuel is obviously air. So I would be empty with nothing in the trailer but air. Many fond memories of opening my truck trailer to nothing in it and the inspectors being dumbfounded!

    I agree that proper tire preshure is absolutely important. One thing I might have missed you talking about. When you get individual corner weights, you use the heaviest weight on that axel to set tire preshure for that axel. Good job geting the information out.

    Really great informative video, so pleased with what y’all share...Done cat scale last year and found out we were 500lbs over, more down sizing took place:). I like the cat scales, very easy to get done.. we tow our jeep with nothing added to get toad as light as possible. Safe travels, Happy Easter and God Bless.

    Good video but my wife and I wanted to know the weights of both weigh ins and the comparison or difference in weight of both weigh ins

    • @rvamericayall
      @rvamericayall  5 років тому

      Hi James. The weights were very close. The SmartWeigh is reported in increments of 50 pounds. The CAT scale reports in increments of 10 pounds. The difference in reports was just over 200 pounds total and we had driven for a while between the two and burned off fuel. We were under our required weight overall and on every axle in both weighs.

    Good topic for a video! Only weighed my rig once and was well within the acceptable range. I'll look weighing like the first one you showed to look at the balance on my rig. More recently I've been focused on shedding unnecessary weight. Have you seen any data on increased MPG correlated with weight offloaded? Would make an interesting video. Did a quick search and didn't find anything with clear testing results for an RV. For instance, if one has an 80-gallon freshwater tank but only carries 40 gallons, the load would be reduced by 333 pounds. Most of the time, this would work for me so I'm left wondering how much this single action might improve my fuel efficiency.

    NIRVC offer a free "4-Corner" weighing at any of their dealerships. The individual wheel weight is important to know. I know of people who discovered their tag axle was overloaded. A Cat Scale does not caught that. I don't rely on the Tire Pressure monitoring system. I bought a good truck tire gauge to check tires manually.

    • @rvamericayall
      @rvamericayall  5 років тому

      Good to know Roy. Thanks! Which tire gauge do you have?

    • @roydavis2242
      @roydavis2242 5 років тому

      @@rvamericayall I bought a Roadpro 12" Straight-on Dual foot tire gauge with a bleeder valve. They're about $30. It is great because, if you over inflate, you can easily let some air out.

    Great video. Love your setup. what kind of rv’s have you had in the past, and why did you go with the diesel over gas now? I’m trying to justify a diesel. Thank you.

    • @rvamericayall
      @rvamericayall  5 років тому +1

      Thanks! We've owned a 23' travel trailer, a 28' Class A Gas motorhome, a 35' Class A Diesel motorhome, and now our 31.6' Class A Diesel motorhome. We prefer diesel because the engine is in the rear so all of the heat and noise associated with the engine is not up right in front with us. We also like the air suspension in the diesel motorhomes, gives a smoother ride and adjusts itself on turns.

  • @andreatruelove9693
    @andreatruelove9693 5 років тому

    So how much variance was between the two different weigh types? Which one do you feel gave the most accurate weight? And what height did y’all come in at? Height is one of my biggest fears. So before we leave out I need to figure out how to properly measure us till we can get professionally measured.

    • @rvamericayall
      @rvamericayall  5 років тому

      Hi Andrea! There was very little difference between the two weights. We feel like they were both very accurate. It's nice to know the extra specific weight for each wheel location to have a true sense of balance. We came in at 11'9".

    Were you under the GAWR for each coach axle? With the Jeep attached were you under the GCWR of the coach? How much more weight could you add? What tire pressures for the coach did you end up with after the weigh?

    • @rvamericayall
      @rvamericayall  5 років тому

      Yes, we were under the suggested weights for every axle and overall. We could add 1,000 pounds to the motorhome and still be under the suggested weight. The Jeep came in at 600 pounds under our suggested tow weight. Tire pressures are specific for weight, but also for individual tire brand and model so you can’t go by what our pressures are. There is a link in the description of the video where you can find information on several of the major tire manufacturers.
