    Very smart: by controlling gear motors in terms of pid and travel it can be translated into air volume rate and pressure (increasing and decreasing) ramps control, Simple but brilliant.

      Yes, it's very clever too, but it needs a compressed air source to operate. I had already seen it and I made myself a question: what if the bag inside the box breaks? Could it risks to inflate patient's lungs with a continuous positive pressure?

      Maybe a mechanical hand adjustable air stroke cam to eliminate controller and sensor? instead of a programmable stepper motor, possibly simpler fully mechanical.

      it needs precise control like at what speed motor moving
      when it needs to slow down when to ramp up
      for that you need stepper motor with rotary encoder that can be operated by PID controller

      @@dipmansinhvaghela7300 there are many off the shelf parts on ebay and aliexpress that are already gear for very few rpm and with some appropriate speed controller or pwm can dial up or down. the real trick is to be able to precisely pause at each end of cycle . Please avoid 3D printing boxes if Off the shelf electrical boxes suffice. Avoid letter engraving when a stick on label is much faster. Avoid making when buying is better/faster. The new rails and linear bearings are nice but drawer slides are in HomePro and GlobalHouse in Thailand, I will begin with the new files now. Thnak you very much. TomP

    I'd go with a crank and a cross head or a scotch yoke as I'd worry about the life span of those plastic gears this also would mean the motor doesn't need to reverse which would allow larger selection of motors to be used.

    • @jamescampbell1060
      @jamescampbell1060 4 роки тому

      i am not an engineer but i think a scotch yoke or similar mechanism provide for some dwell time at one or both ends as well which may be an improvement if one can control exact length of travel and dwell times. I agree, if the motor never reverses you can easily find small, slow speed motors with a lot of torque that can run 24/7/365. Many linear actuator reversible motors have duty cycles that may only be 25% of the time

    Esas guías lineales son muy caras y difíciles de conseguir, se pueden sustituir por unas guías metálicas para cajones, mucho mas económicas y fáciles de conseguir. El movimiento de compresión se puede simplificar usando un solo motor con un engranaje conectado a su eje que transmita el movimiento a dos cremalleras enfrentadas y unidas cada una de ellas a su respectivo brazo.

    I would not use that gear system, it is weak and imprecise, copy the connecting rod system that Seat uses, it is a connecting rod that is easier to control the cycle and is silent and durable, here it is about making the respirators as fast as possible.
    If you are going to use that gear mechanism I suggest that you add additional support at the tip of the drive gear, it is as reliable as possible.

    Guys you need to do a stress/N cycle curve analysis and verify that this mechanism can survive a million cycles .... Your device design is not durable enough and it will fail soon. You need to use wider metal gears and a stronger motor with a larger shaft..... Then do a failure mode analysis, patients, doctors and nurses need reliable equipment..... come on. Concept is great but the durability needs to be perfect..... Put a thermal sensor on the motor so you can make sure the motor stays cool or else the dielectric material on the motor windings will sublime earlier than projected and fail in service. Cooling the motor with a fan always works and make sure the motor temperature stays below the threshold. You can get there just make sure you go through a FMA. Keep up the good work!

Motorized Bellows, filtered air/oxygen in, a couple of one way valves and some tubing. No complex software or hardware, no calibration, no fancy casing, just a simple pump. You can knock these out by the truckload.

    Ok, i get the idea that these guys just want to help by coming up with an "icu respirator" that should be both simple to build and cost effective and that probably should also give less developed countries the opportunity to deal with a highly overburdened health system. Noble thought, no doubt.
    The main problem with their invention is - and I'm pretty sure that this statement doesn't sound very popular -, that it simply can't work, no matter how you turn it. There's a reason that even simple icu respirators cost a lot of money and are provided by manufacturers that have years of experience in that field. The medical condition that severely ill COVID-19 patients find themself in, is a highly complex situation beeing called ARDS, or lung failure to use a non-medical term. And by simply pumping oxygenated air into a patient is not how it can even closely be done.
    People might say "Before patients die because we are short on respirators, we should at least give their invention a try!" I guarantee you, that wouldn't work, not even for three minutes.

      @@gazzaboo8461 I have a feeling that even though overbuilt they have built in redundancy with motors as this may be left to operate on a patient in an emergency situation where staff wont be able to constantly check machine is operating correctly. They did say if one motor dies the other will continue to function. also the stroke looks to need a lot of control mabe the gearing option allows for that without to much sensing. My issue is are those rails also attached to linear feedback sensors as i am pretty sure they are not readily available.
