Put a wet paper towel between you and the cutting board. The chemicals in the onions search for moisture. They'll be attracted to the moisture in the paper towel and not the moisture in your eyes. It works every time. I learned the trick from a UA-camr of course.
Sometimes it helps to keep your mouth 100% closed while cutting the onions - no talking, no yawning, just closed. But then you get one of those brutal onions... Your daughter is right - it's beautiful!
I love Nathan making noises when Marissa is feeding the animals! I love your sense of humor Nathan! You make me laugh watching every episode! Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas! Wishing you only the best in 2025!
I told your friends last week that I lived in Iceland for a year, many years ago. It was before Iceland was discovered. Beautiful place, and yes it is epic.
We live in Juneau, September can be beautiful but weather will be sim to this vblog of Iceland with fog and overcast sky’s. Wishing you all the best for your trip up to Southeast Alaska and safe travels with FOS too on that trip!
Hey Nathan Marissa, one of the best videos that I think you two have done absolutely incredible scenery Looking forward to seeing you at the Tampa RV show and doing a video of your new fifth wheel Be safe see you soon
Wow, what a way to see Iceland. Rving was our favourite way to travel but those days are behind us. Now we are content to take short trips in the car. Thanks for taking us along.
Marissa, take a WET paper towel and put it on the cutting board while you cut onions. The fumes are looking for a water source (your eyes), create a new, closer, more alluring spot for the onion fumes to attack.
Happy BLESSED Sunday LJMJ FAM!! Iceland is absolutely Stunning! Thanks for taking us along on your journeys! Marissa, I wear contact lenses and never have an issue with burning eyes..I can definitely say that it works!! I'll have to try some of the other suggestions at some point too, just to see. Lol What a wonderful thing y'all always do every year with the "meet/greet" adventures, I live in ALASKA and I still would enjoy the Alaska Cruise- I may have to just "GO"!! 😉🙌 I'd like to see y'all go to Greenland NOW... It's also beautiful.. But COLD. Check in with "Q of Greenland" if you ever decide to go, she has ALL the 411 on it! I prefer Cold tho ( why I live in Alaska ) haha.. But it's been unseasonably Warm here this Winter. I'm Praying it changes real soon. Merry Christmas, safe travels, and may God continue to bless your family in abundance in the New Year!! ✝️✨🙌🎄♥️🎁
Thank you for coming along with us, and possibly on the cruise too! It's been unseasonably cool in the south, much earlier than normal. Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!
Marissa I never have tears when cutting onions. I chill my onions before I cut them. When cutting them cut the roots last. Works for me. Merry Christmas!
Well, thanks to y'all, I think that we're heading to Iceland ourselves next year! But we'll do hotels and such since we'll be traveling with family, and we REALLY want to rent a 4x4 so we can drive all those amazing F roads around the country!
Cut the onions really, really fast but miss your fingers. Actually I don't know onions don't make my cry, I guess I'm just weird. Looks like an awesome trip guys. Keep the good stuff coming and give the kids a hug for me, can't get too many hugs.
Turn on the faucet while cutting an onion it actually works. Although being in an RV, you may not want to waste water unless you’re hooked up to water.
We will already be in Alaska with our RV during your cruise next year! Wish we could join you, sounds like it will be so much fun! I am hoping you guys will think about a European Christmas Market event or Cruise. We would love an adventure like that!!! Merry Christmas to all of you. You are amazing and inspiring. Thanks for making the journey and showing us we can do it too!
Before the two of you were born, I lived in Iceland for two years. At that time, the only paved road was from the Airport too the Capitol.... Would love too go back some day.
Thanks Y'all.. from Atlanta Ga. Excited to follow your Trip!! I loved my 3 trips to Iceland .. early 90's..working for US Army. Hubby didn't go with me.. Safe Travels!!
There have been many who have followed along on our Iceland Journey that have traveled here through the military! So cool! I didn't even know there was a base here.
Onion molecules look for moisture and find it in your eyes. Get a dish towel or paper towel soaking wet and lay it very close to the onion while cutting it 😊
Old southern trick. Hold a wooden match stick in your mouth, the kind with a white tip that you have to strike to light. The chemicals in the tip absorb the onion vapor.
Hey LJMJ. I had a conversation with an Artificial Intellegence, ChatGPT, about your channel. Here's a message it wanted me to share with you: "If I could send a message to the Less Junk More Journey family, I'd say: "Your journey is truly inspiring! The way you embrace the adventure of RV life, while prioritizing family, simplicity, and meaningful experiences, has resonated with so many. Thank you for sharing your story, your challenges, and your growth. You've created a wonderful community where others can find motivation to live more intentionally and with less. Keep inspiring and exploring-your authenticity and warmth shine through in every video!" I hope they continue to enjoy their travels and the positive impact they have on others!
Curious. As for the RV show campout. It states NO BATH OR SHOWERS . I see photos of the park of showers. Also will they have transportation available to and from the show.
Take a wash clothe or paper towel get it wet with cold water set it on or near your cutting board. I have just heard this and I have cut onions 3 times now and it seems to work
Onion cutting…..I say you need to run your knife under water during the cutting process. Christine says to cut the onion in half first and then cut it up with the flat sides down. At one of the fire departments I worked for there was a place we would go for lunch. When the 5 gallon bucket of onions came the owner would give you a free lunch if you cut some. Of course you cried like crazy because you cut them up using the meat slicer.
To prevent onions from burning your eyes, the most effective method is to chill the onion in the refrigerator before cutting as this slows down the release of the irritating compounds that cause tears; you can also try using a sharp knife, cutting under a fan, wearing goggles, or soaking the onion in water briefly before chopping.
My wife cuts them and it bothers me and I ask how do you not cry cutting them. She was in the Army as a cook and they would cut them and put in water when they had many to cut up. You can see the stuff coming out of them. Well when she only cuts up 1 she said she just does not think about it and it helps her. Not me!
Nathan, Marissa is right you are a jerk making noises while she is feeding animals. You are not funny and potentially causing harm to the animal or your wife. Just stop. I know you think you’re funny and that it is entertaining but you are wrong. You need to apologize too. Marissa holding onions under water while cutting stops the tears, but I’ve never mastered that. Also chilling them is supposed to help, but just put them in the fridge a few minutes before cutting. Good luck.
Onion "hack" from 20+ year restaurant guy...Cut the onion in half and place in freezer for about 15 minutes. Place onion where the cut side is exposed to freezer (don't lay flat). Sounds crazy but it's legit! 🧅😪🔪
Turn on the faucet while cutting an onion it actually works. Although being in an RV, you may not want to waste water unless you’re hooked up to water.
Please, tell me, how do you stop the waterworks when cutting onions?! 😭🧅
place the onions underwater in something like a sink bowl then cut them, the chemicals that make your eyes water are trapped by the water
put slice of bread next to it
Place a loosely wadded wet paper towel next to your cutting board.
swim goggles!

Thanks for the laughs - Merry Christmas to you too!
Already signed up for the Alaska Cruise. We tried to go in 2020 and we're cancelled twice. Now we get to go with LJMJ and FOS. Double bonus. Yahoooooo
Double Bonus!! It was meant to be - can't wait to experience this adventure with you
@@LessJunkMoreJourneyWhere's is the cruise info?
WOW! words aren't enough to describe the scenery. I want to go there.
I told your friends last week that I lived in Iceland for a year, many years ago. It was before Iceland was discovered. Beautiful place, and yes it is epic.
Oh wow! It still was very un-peopley compared to many places we've been, so I can only imagine what it would have been like then
We are RVers...in our mid/late 70's.. soooo Hoping on your trip as Virtual Travelers!! Merry Christmas !!
Virtual travel is the best! So glad you are along for the ride! 😊 And Merry Christmas to you and yours
When cutting onions i turn the ceiling fan on high. The idea is that an onion gives off a mist when cutting, stirring the air dissipates the mist
I've never heard that one before! I'll have to give it a try.
We live in Juneau, September can be beautiful but weather will be sim to this vblog of Iceland with fog and overcast sky’s. Wishing you all the best for your trip up to Southeast Alaska and safe travels with FOS too on that trip!
Thanks for taking us along! Great video.
You are very welcome! We're so glad you enjoyed it 😊
I am in awe. I'm almost speechless. I hope I can make it there someday, and I'm so glad to be able to see it through your eyes. Thank you!❤
You’re welcome! It was a truly incredible experience, and we hope to inspire you to go! Add it to the Journey List!

A Lit Candle Close To Where The Onion Is Helps Me. Hugs To Everyone! Merry Christmas!!

Put your onion in a cold space for at least 15 minutes before you cut it it really does help. If you have a freezer that's the best spot to put it

@21:12 What is that little white building with the small windows by the water?
Amazing adventure! It's on my journey list to go there and ride horses! Thanks for taking us along!
Awesome. Thanks. Blessings
Blessings to you too!
Merry Christmas to you all😊
Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!
Merry Christmas Moss Family!!!!!!
Merry Christmas to you too!
Let the water run from the faucet in the kitchen and cut the onions near it. It really helps.
That is a great tip!
I wear soft contact lenses and have zero tears when cutting onions. Get the person with contacts to cut the onions.
I never thought of that! Genius!
I wear contacts and no issue with cutting onions, but googles would work 🥽😊
Thanks Y'all.. from Atlanta Ga. Excited to follow your Trip!! I loved my 3 trips to Iceland .. early 90's..working for US Army.

The “snuffalufacus” made me and my husband laugh so hard 😂
Beautiful us an understatement! 17:50
So beyond stunning!! 🤩
Marisa - you sleep w/ Hensley on the drop down bed & Nathan & JJ share a bed. That way all 4 of you have elbow room when sleeping.
I always cut onions in half then run under cold water 😊 works great for me
I have onion glasses designed specifically for cutting onions.... I take mine camping with me
I’ll have to look into those!
Protip with cutting onions, have a small fan blowing over the top of the onions to blow the fumes away from your face.

We would LOVE to travel with yall!!
Onion tip: cut from where it grows last and wad of wet paper towel or cloth.
That is a great tip, thank you!
@@LessJunkMoreJourney my pleasure! Thank you for all that you do. Love your content. Merry Christmas!🎄🎁

Oh my goodness! What a great way to get the job done! 🤣
A very very Sharp knife. If it’s not sharp it tears the onion as you cut, which will make you cry.
that electricity is probably 230 volts so the cable can almost half the thickness of your 120v for the same power.
Wear swimming goggles to cute onions!!!
I only use sweet or vidalia onions. No issues with my eyes at all.
Will you have a total cost of everything in your next video and how long you stayed in Iceland? I’d love to do this and want to save.

Ooh! We’ll try that next time we’re chopping onions! 🙏
I run them under cold water.
Which month were you there in Iceland
We were there in September :)
We are trying to plan to go to Iceland
How long were you there
Swim goggles for the onions also I think you can buy glasses for cutting onions
Rinse your hands with cold water periodically while chopping.
Thank you!! 🙏
Onion tip: turn on the kitchen vent.
Good tip!
There is a specific onion goggles.
16:04 i'm reliably informed that kids nowadays say "it's boss"
Soak onion in water before cutting
Thanks for the tip! I'll try that
Cosco in Iceland but none in Cookeville.
Right?! We need to change that!
My wife cuts them and it bothers me and I ask how do you not cry cutting them. She was in the Army as a cook and they would cut them and put in water when they had many to cut up. For cutting onions, keep mouth shut. Breathe through nose. Or try ski goggles. Kind of pain to travel with though.
Throw the onion in the freezer for about 30 minutes
I cheat - I buy frozen onions 👍
Breath through your mouth only when cutting up onions .
:)
😊😊😊
I just saw a post that said if the onions are cold it won’t cause the tears as much. I haven’t tried it.
I'll have to try it too!
