    It was a great year for tools! I picked up almost all of those myself. The coin driver is a godsend for replacing batteries on certain small electronics. Bicycle computers immediately come to mind, but I'll randomly find other devices that have a battery door designed to be removed with a coin - ouch!

      I've been close to pulling the trigger on the coin driver but I always come back to a question I think you can answer, is it easy to tear up an electronic device trying to change the battery with that thing?

    Those aren't the holding function Wera hex keys, those are the standard long ones. The HF version has a ball detent (a tiny steel ball bearing) on one side of the hex, which positively holds the fastener on the end of the wrench.

    My favourites are not made anymore. Stanley Hurwood wooden handle No. 20, No. 45, from 1950s production. The handles and shafts on those are better than anything since. You can put a 1959 vintage Stanley phillips screwdriver in a phillips screw, such as in a door lock, and walk away from it. The screwdriver will just stick out of the wall as if it's glued into the screwhead. No magnets. And this is a heavy full length screwdriver with full length shaft. Then you can use that same screwdriver for 30 years and do the same trick again. Original price $0.20. I find with a round softly fluted wooden handle you have all the torque you need, but also can spin it freely and no need for a ratchet screwdriver. When Stanley switched to those horrible yellow and black plastic handles in the mid 1960s my dad went to all the hardware stores and bought all the remaining wooden ones. These days some German companies make wooden handle screwdrivers. Connex seem to have a nice set made in Germany.

    I don’t like flexible shafts. I’ve found that you can’t tighten down completely. It always feels as it’s going to get damaged if you try. That pertains to every manufacturer I’ve bought. And if you bend it more than a few degrees, it doesn’t really grip the screw properly. But I suppose they have their uses.
    The PB products seem to be perpetually out of stock.

    I love Wera, but I have a bunch of their diamond coated bits, and I haven't noticed that they're any better than quality bits without the diamond, including bits by Wera and other companies. I also can't feel or see any sort of diamond or abrasive texture on the bits.
    Frankly I think the diamond stuff is BS, I'm sure there are some diamond particles in there, but for practical purposes there really isn't.

Additionally, I have noticed that some my co-workers wera keys the sleeves stay in the holder and the the hex key comes out.

    I have yet to find what I'm looking for, and it is firstly aimed at bicycle maintenance, but can be used for anything else with hex head. I want a P-handle hex plus(no ballhead) with holding function. I want the plastic/nylon handle to be as small as possible(Unior is the best here in my opinion).
    I would also like to have a knurled area on the metal(close to the plastic/nylon) to be able to more easily spin it around just with thumb and index finger.
    The loose T-bar style that Park Tool released is not of any interest because it is too thin and flimsy(given the bar slides freely) for me to consider using this as a go to tool(also it has no hex plus nor holding function).
    Wera does make something close, but their handle is gigantic for bicycle maintenace so it's just not gonna happen.

    I have a not so good experience with the WERA flexible bit driver It broke on the first try tightening a screw. I checked with a regular scewdriver if maybe i overtightened it but i could easy turn it an other turn. Send it back to the seller, received a new one. On my bike headlamp, try to loosen a screw. It did turn, but not the screw but the driver outershell spit. When the return for this one came in, tried it on a screw. Same result outershell split. And even nr 4 with hex on it to tighten a brake cable on my bike. There were at least with 4 of these very severe quality issues which i did not expect from a more expensive brand like Wera. A big disappointment. Even if i get a 5th one i would not trust it to work when needed. So, my trust in Wera tools is sadly gone as well. Best advice, if you still want to buy one, or a Wera tool, don't let it lay around but test it first extensively before putting in it your toolbox.

    What wera T-handle is better the one for hex bits or 1/4" squre? There are adapters either way so is there any difference?

    • @cafecybernz
      @cafecybernz Рік тому

      I was wondering the same. For personal reasons, I want my screwdriver bits to be locked (so the bit does not get stuck in the fastener), but I want my 1/4" sockets to be immediately removable without having to push any button (All my lockable ratchet drivers have a quick spinner on them: it helps with turning bolts or nuts at first, and with making the sockets come off quickly). Even if I had liked the lock system on the T-handle hex bits, I've read somewhere that it sometimes unlocks itself due to the pressure of your palm on the button at the top of the T handle. So I am going to purchase two 1/4" square T-handle, one for screwdriver bits and one with a hex-square adapter for sockets (The adapter will be locked in the rapidaptor end of the T-handle, ensuring the sockets are easy to remove).
