Part 18 of 33 of a road trip from Brisbane to Tasmania, returning via Victoria's Great Ocean Road, Central Victoria, Great Alpine Road and Canberra.
The Port Arthur Convict Ruins are one of the high points on any visit to Tasmania. We drove down from Richmond and spent the day chasing ghosts of the past. There have been many changes since we were there many years ago. The visitor facilities and signage are excellent. The tour includes a ferry tour of the island where the deceased were buried and passes the sight of the boys prison.
The approaches to Port Arthur include crossing the bridge over the Dunalley Canal and over Eagle Hawk Neck to the Tasman Peninsular. Some fantastic geographical features such as the Tessellated Pavement, Tasman Arch and The Devils Kitchen are in this area.
