    Not trying to be a jerk but I believe its parallel compression that is known as "new york compression", not side chain compression.

    You are tripping lol there’s plenty of big names that use high ratios. I personally use 20:1 ALOT. The problem is you’re attack time is WAY to fast, that’s what’s giving you that squashed feeling. Try upping the attack time and use a higher ratio and I can almost guarantee you’ll hear some magic happen

    I got the kt2a,76kt,eqpkt paired with an Avalon V5. I will never go back to in the box plugins. The color and texture my vocal chain gets with the KT products have made my production 10x better. And the Avalon V5 has no challangers at its price point. Its a beautiful masterpiece of hardware. And the Eqpkt makes everything sit perfectly in the mix.

      Look into the alctron mp73eq V2 EMPHASIS ON THE V2 it’s a sleeper neve 1073 clone. Those that know will tell you to get a modification from revive or somewhere but the truth is it sounds like the original for around $400 I often record thru an Avalon 737 but I don’t own one personally. I own a SSL Alpha channel strip but 9/10 I’m using the alctron unit. The EQ on there is amazing. To top it off it has a line input and an xlr input so switching it from my vocal chain over to my master bus is simple. The eq is very gentle bus also offers the ability to make surgical cuts/boosts to the common frequencies that are EQ’d. I have mine running into > KT 76> Pultec EQP 1A3>

      How is that Avalon v5? There’s not a lot of reviews or anything on the V5? What you think of the twinfinity?

    • @alexrod714
      @alexrod714 3 роки тому +1

      @@mixedbyv I dont know anything about the twinfinity. But I have plenty time on the v5. It adds presence to the vocals that makes it sound more full and thick without adding color. Some settings do add color as well. It helps my vocal sit in the pocket a lot better. Guitars sound amazing thru it.

      @@alexrod714 awesome man! Thanks for the reply! If you don’t mind me asking what kind of music you do and what are your settings on on the kt76 and Kt2a. I have had both for about a week. I need to get a new preamp. But I’m trying to decide what one what want.

    • @alexrod714
      @alexrod714 3 роки тому +1

      @@mixedbyv I do rap and r&b. I think the most important thing to know is this. The 1176 should be used to catch the majority of your peeks and compression. It's the faster compressor of the 2 so it should be the main compressor. The la2a should be used to catch anything that gets thru the kt2a. So it should be working less. The la2a will add the warmth around the vocals. I have the eqpkt coming in last that shapes the overall vocal. I can bring the vocal more forward, I can bring it more back, I can add presents and warmth. I can make the vocal as crispy as I want. So in general I use the compressors to add body to the vocals. Like what happens when you double a vocal. It adds body. I use the epqkt for making the vocal pop. I would say the epqkt is the most slept on EQ today. But those that have them are keeping them and the secrets they hold very close. I bought 4. 3 in box still and 1 being used. I hope I helped. My settings arent what you need bro. I run the pre amp to the compressors and then to the eqpkt. I find a good level on the mic pre that I'm happy with. The hotter you can get the preamp the better. Then the 1176 to compress all the vocals that reach a certain peek. The la2a to catch whatever gets thru the first compressor. The epqkt to add the magic. If you dont have the eqpkt get it. The powe that it gives you to shape a sound is second to none. You can correct errors in sound or add what you like to the sound. You'll never go back. If you wanna hear how things sound thru my vocal chain send whatever you like to alexrod714@yahoo.com and I'll send it back to you same day with changes. I do this for people just like you who wanna feel for equipment before they buy.

    recording vocals being able to shout in your mic at the limit of it's sound pressure level and still sounding clean? Always been 1176, and this one does the job nicely ! Just like the classic this one can also turn your snare into a bomb.

    • @UndergroundSoundProductions
      @UndergroundSoundProductions  4 роки тому +2

      The big difference between the two is that the 76 allows you to do more aggressive compression as well and does better at taming wild transients where as the 2A is not as extreme of compression I would say. What’s the application for you? Just vocals, tracking instruments or both? I’d watch a video on the difference between a fet and optical compressor for more in depth info on what makes these so different. I’m gonna have to get the 2A as well because I could just get one it’d be too tough of a choice

    What does the self noise sound like on this unit and what point in the first gain stage does it present itself?

    • @UndergroundSoundProductions
      @UndergroundSoundProductions  4 роки тому +1

      I’ve pushed this thing pretty aggressively and haven’t heard any audible noise. Although I’d never push it any harder than 2-3db gain reduction. You’d really need to be driving this thing to introduce any kind of noise. If you’re worried about any kind of noise or distortion issues with this unit, don’t worry it’s absolutely amazing no worries with degrading your quality whatsoever. I have plenty of videos coming soon putting this thing to the test and also when I get the kt2a

    • @AnthonyMartinsRock
      @AnthonyMartinsRock 4 роки тому

      @@UndergroundSoundProductions I've been quite lucky to use an original (hardware)UA1176 for a while plus I also had an Apollo for quite some time with their emulations. Along with my stock Protools 76 so I'm quite comfortable using them getting very good consistent results. I am still very curious as a lot of the hardware 1176 (and la2a)clones are either very noisy (fine for certain genre of music if it can be masked on a mix), or they tend to be quite shrill and brittle sounding. I had stopped using plugins quite some time ago for these reasons. I really like the smooth effect of my LA610 but had sold it to eventually replace it with a hardware 1176 (I really like to go from Pre{0}>1176{-3}>very light EQ>Protools)and now there is room for this 1176. As I use my hardware for voice over, I can't have noisy gear so as this unit has had some really extremely different reviews so I have not considered it. What makes this appealing is the fact that it (kt76)is cheaper than some of my old Apollo plugins! Which is why I sold my Apollo, picked up an SSLsix for its PreAmps eq and compressor and a prism interface to go into Protools or whatever i have open. No more 10 plugins when I can get 94% of the way that I need to deliver before I even hit my DAW! it's nice to not need to push plugins to further signal degradation! Plus hardware different need a dongle or any specific software or ram to run! Fun times. I look forward to hearing your further exploration with your unit!

    lol the warmth of an 76 is what you want actually. And it doesn't get harsh because it kinda de-esses also if you drive it. This thing doesn't even drive though. So that's 300 for a transparent compressor which you probably have like 20 in the box already :o lol but have fun with it though still cool to get your hands on right?
