MVP!
Wow, the Klark really sounds amazing.
This is probably the best "sound video" on UA-cam!
Awesome musicians, good gain matching of the examples, no inaccurate or misunderstood information, a good signal path, an interesting history lesson and no craving for e-mail addresses :D
It's perfect! Thank you for making this!
Hey Lennart, thanks so much for your comment, that really means a lot. We put a lot of time into that video, so it’s nice when someone picks up on the details. Thanks very much!
I can only second that....what a great video....again
Ur right the sound is pristine.
facts
Ill 3rd that!!!
how the UA 1176 LN is so renowned remains a mistery
This video is a blessing. What a true privilege to have access to content like this. Thank you so very much!
Really appreciate your time guys! Amazing video!
A Huge Thanks to you, my guy! That kind of comparison was extremely, very much appreciated! My favorite was the KT-76. And for plug ins, I was impressed with the MC-76.
Amazing review. All reviews need to be done like this. Brilliant.
fantastic video, went above and beyond with the amount of gear + found myself wanting to listen to the history and not skip ahead to the shootout. instant subscribe, cheers!
Awesome review. This channel deserves more exposure.
Thanks for watching, Rick!
Legendary shootout. Thanks ever so much for doing this!
WONDERFUL JOB. I can’t imagine the amount of thought and hours that went into this. Thank you so very much for doing what I always wanted someone to do...line up a bunch of dif units and switch between them w the same material. So freakin simple in idea...SO complicated and consuming to actually execute. THANK YOU and congrats on a job WELL DONE.
Best shootout video in all of the internet! Thank You!
Best compressor review I've ever heard. Thanks for this great resource!
We are glad you enjoyed it! We are going to keep the great videos coming!
Well played one and all 👏🏻 Loving all of the execution in this video. Please make more!
Hey 🌞
The waffling is the only reason I come to watch ♥️. Pls keep doing this videos it is so much knowledge for us who are really digging into this with a jounger age.
The value of this content is incredible 🌿🙏🏻
Cheers form Germany
I really appreciate these comparison videos. Very thorough and well produced. Thank you.
Thanks Matt!
That Urei Silverface Rev H on the Kick with the input all the way up sounds DOPE!!!!!
Well, I was in the market for a hardware 1176 and was considering the Warm audio or better but the differences are so subtle that the Klark seems like an amazing deal.
was already excited about hearing all these 1176s and then you went and got some of Mamas Gun playing! Love it
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for doing this and also for providing the audio files. Very much appreciated as I'm in the marketing for an 1176 and chewing my nails over the many options and clones.
you folks are awesome! thanks for doing these great videos!
This review has been outstanding. Thank you so much!
Thank you, Roger! Glad you enjoyed it. Please share it with any like-minded friends! Thanks again 😎
Finally, an audio channel that doesn't take itself so seriously, and isn't so drenched in suggested marketing/advertising that I want to execute myself (let's hope I haven't spoken too soon, only seen a few vids). Subbed.
Thanks Alex! No marketing here!
PHWOAR! Probably the best comparison video we've ever seen. There's a reason we get Mark to master our tracks... All the gear, and all the ideas!
The OG silver face hands down sounds the best. The purple audio is a close second.
The drums really showed that; silver face smashed that. I liked it on the guitar and bass too. Though on the guitar I thought the black face had a thicker, smoother more pleasing sound. But, I think mostly that was just the effect it had on tone shaping, than the compression.
Really well done! We live in a golden age of clones. The first mix demonstrations were so useful.... and awesome mixes on top of that. Very functional demo of all these. Glad I copped the Klarks and didn’t spend way more money on an original..
Hey, thanks so much for the kind words! Glad you’ve got some KTs, they’re so good for the money. Thanks again for taking the time to comment and watching our vids, much appreciated 😎
That Klark was easily one of the best sounding, what a bargain!
This is really really good! Thank you so much! We need more like this on UA-cam
Thank you for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed it - we’ve got lots more in the pipeline! Check out our Pultec EQ shootout as well if you haven’t already done so x
Great job, guys!
Mental and genius! LOVE the intro sooo much
Anyone thinking about buying an 1176 type compressor really needs to see this wonderful video.
I am SO happy that I have found your channel.
Amazing videos, even better personalities from you guys!
A true gem on youtube. - Thank you!
Best Regards Thomas
Thomas Pedersen That’s very kind of you, thank you Thomas!
Stellar work here! Super professional in all aspects, history intro, almost perfect level matching, pro musicians' quality, file download...thanks a lot for the hard work and hope you reach hundreds of thousands of subscribers by next year! Def deserved
It’s great to hear such awesome feedback and it’s very encouraging, it makes us really enjoy doing what we do! Thank you for your comment and we’ll keep the good stuff coming!
Thank you for your Great ShootOUt !! Love how Upfront the MC76 sounds !
Amazing quality! Thanks for the video!
Glad you enjoyed it! We’ll keep em coming!
The Intros are so Amazing by you guys , the only channel where i love the intro´s
Awesome video! Congrats!
I had been looking for an 1176 for months but after this video I was convinced to buy the Klark Teknik 76-kt. It really sounded as good as the far more expensive units.
Great video! Thank you.
Thanks for watching! We loved the KT too
Absolutely quality content.
This was an excellent shout out. Great vid! The Silverface was the winner to my ears individually, overall on the mix though, I liked the reissue the best. I also liked the Purple on the individual tracks. The reissue sounded cleaner overall though.
Amazing video. Thank you so much!
Fantastic content. Very useful!!
Amazing in depth video! Very interesting to hear a bit of the history of one of music's most influential compressors :) I definitely did NOT skip that bit!!
Polyv0x Thank you for watching, and taking time to comment. Glad you enjoyed it
Just discovered your channel: love it! Super good shootouts, super level matching, realistic settings. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for watching, welcome on board!
The Silverface, the Hairball and the Klark added something really nice to the low end in the full mix, love it! Will defintely get 2 or 3 of the Klarks now :D
Thanks for taking on the Herculean task of doing this shoot out. It should've gotten about 10 times the views. Interesting how different the various revisions reacted to each instrument. Obviously, it would be nice to have a silverface (was offered by a friend to buy one at the going rate, but declined), but for overall compression tasks, I was happy with the UA reissue - it retained a nice amount of headroom in all tests.
Your videos are ACE guys thank you!
Thank you Dan! Thanks for watching!
Again awesome content! Thanks for doing this.
Thanks Robert! The feedback means a lot. Glad you enjoyed it x
This channel really is wonderful, cool people just talking about audio stuff. Laid back
In the mix comparison I had a liking for the Hairball over all the others for some reason I couldn't quite put my finger on. Then on the isolated track with the gain all the way up I figured it out; the ratio of coloration seems to be perfect for my preferences compared to the others. Except for bass, I liked the purple best. Very interesting differences overall. Great work guys!
Wow greattt!!! Thank you
I'm not one for gushing comments, but this is a really fantastic video. Wonderful information and background, Incredible musicians, proper engeneering and a very effective test. You're a fantastic presenter and the editing and the general video production is excellent. Love it!
Thanks so much for the kind words, that really means a lot. Glad you enjoyed the vid! LA2A shootout coming real soon! Thanks again ❤️
thank you for putting in so much effort brother well done 👏
awesome video I always wondered how the Purple Audio sounded. I ended up getting a Black Lion Audio Bluey... never been happier.
Brilliant video !!!
Great vid- can't imagine all the work that went into make those 40 minutes!
If I remember correctly, it was around 2 weeks of production. Thank you for watching our videos, we appreciate it!
love that intro!!!! the saints are marchin' in 🙂
Fantastic video thanks
Very well done comparison. Most people will find a way to mess it up. You obviously spent a lot of time trying to get it right. Well done!
Thank you Jeff!
Urei and specially UA Classic killed it imo.
That Rev H is just perfect
Great performance
Great video!
Excellent shoutout! Silverface as some character, I never thought the Purple Audio could be that gritty when pushed to the limits. And putting the price aside, the KT is an excellent one I really liked it on the snare with a very good overall frequency balance. Can't wait for the LA2A shoutout. thanks
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. LA2A coming soon... the vintage original is broken, so just trying to get that sorted. Damn analogue gear! 😝
@@PresentDayProduction Those are capricious. Keep up the good work. Love your videos
thank you guys! This is a superb audio/video!!! The dudes in the "virtual" real band are amazing (really top session guys u can tell, well done fellas). And the idea of changing the sounds exactly on the bar is spot on (so so simple and logical but yet so so unique and ...still logical :) ) . I would have just one suggestion.... if I may... to change the sounds every second bar (one bar is really a bit too fast for most of the brains out there). That would make youtube videos of audio stuff comparison, on some other level. thanx again
Great job!
Excellent 😊
I was expecting based on other videos that the KT-76 would be an obvious loser. But actually I preferred it to most except for the silverface...which is incredible.
Yep, agreed. The bass especially showed this off.
KT 76 was great. I'd probably get the Hairball Audio for psychological reasons that its handmade even though it may not necessarily sound better
that's what i thought! silverface was gorgeous but kt76 was 85% as good
the low end is really good, but it has some not so pretty artifacts up above. It's a helluva unit for the price but how it sounds is what will cost you if you don't really listen.
immaculate job mate! my only wish was for revision F and A to be added in the shootout. can't wait for more reviews! Subscribed!
Thanks Nate! We’ve got some more interesting shootouts coming up, so thanks for subscribing!
Hello. Just saw this video and I loved it! Thanks for it, it’s the best way to hear these things, very well done. Just one suggestion: in each cycle it would be nice to hear the dry signal also.
As others have mentioned thank you for all the work. An idea on these types of videos would be to add a bar of the clean signal to have a reference of the changes as well as a cleanse of palettes
Impressive comparison. I would also choose different unit for different instrument.
What a amazing Job, I just discovered your channel, thank you so much for sharing your experience. Keep going ! and cheers from France ;)
Thanks Yoann, thanks for watching, we hope you enjoyed our videos :)
AMAZING Video btw. 1 fun addition to consider for future videos, at the end include the whole mix and flip between the different mixes using each compressor across each track. Much like preamp demos, you really hear the bigger effect when you hear the entire mix with everything tracked and stacked up working together. One might have a nice mid-range clarity in solo, but cumulatively across the mix it could create an unwanted mid bump across the whole mix. Edit, after listening some more you can hear that the hairball has a bit more low mid push and different level of color/distortion, so I would love to hear hairball across all tracks vs the KT to see if the mix is more muddy or just adding subtle thickness.
really nice vid thanks
My personal all around favourite is the purple audio. Not only is it relatively affordable, it sounds great, distorts properly amd musically, and is easily available compares to the original units. Would be my go to for high end analog 1176 sounds. If I could find a pair though, the Rev D were to die for as a great all around choice
what a great channel!!! thanks, really appreciate ;)
Love your content and humour!!
Thank you! We’ll keep it coming!
VERY NICE COMPARISON!
Thank you!
amazing video. thank u
Thank you for watching!
For me the silverface and the purple audio. Slate sounds least to my ears. Thank you for this great one!
Thanks for this!
Thanks for watching Erik!
I know this is an old video, but, EXCELLENT INTRO :D
Glad I clicked. Top notch video here .. subbing!
Thank you!
Super intro ! Waw
thank you very much

HA! Best thumbnail EVER!!
😎👍👍
After listening to these comparisons, i think im going to try the Klark Teknik. Its the only one i can afford. Lol. But it sounds really good, as long as u dont get a defective product. From all the reviews ive seen on any of the Klark Teknik products they are hit or miss due to bad quality control, but im willing to take the risk. They sound fantastic when its a properly functioning unit.
Fantastic comparison. Thank for you going through the barmy effort to put together such a video. All I can afford's the KT, but I'll say that you can bypass the compression on the KT by only lightly pressing one of the ratio buttons, switching them all off. The Rev H has a lovely attack on the snare.
Thanks for the kind words Harvey! Yeah, a few people have pointed that out with the KT... I should have read the manual... what an amateur! 😎
@@PresentDayProduction I should've checked the comments sorry!
Harvey Rothman Haha, no worries! Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
I can’t find anything about bypassing the 76-KT in the manual? I’ll try what you suggested
Great great great channel
Dude! that intro mate 😂😂😂 it's great to see someone whack like i am. 🤣 You really made my day. 🙌😃
Very well put thanks! We love 1176's!
Thanks for everything saludos desde chile
Thank you so much for doing this. I can understand how tiresome it would have been. You have organized the files so well. Kudos for that!
Regarding comparison, on quick reviewing, I found Slate's plugins required more caliberation, particularly with output settings. On matching Attack,Release and GR by ears, the results of FG-116 and Monster were very comparable with others just like another piece of hardware.
Except for bass where all hardwares had distinct advantage of low end response, on vocals and guitars, in blind test, it was indistinguishable to hear FG-116 vs any hardware. It was more like each one had slight different texture.
Seems like, if you want the hardware it's really hard not to take a look at the Klark Teknik. Especially on snare or vocals. Great job guys!
They’re great for the price range. They do lack a little of the transient quality of their expensive counterparts, but they definitely do the job!
it seems the KTs don't have quite the same exact parameters for attack speed as the higher priced boys. It seems like its just not able to go quite as fast
Owen Murphy The attack time is variable from 20-800 microseconds, so on paper it certainly stacks up, but it does sound slightly behind the original units on grabbing those transients.
you guys rock , thank you so much! Just subscribed
Thanks Richard!
I have a Hairball DIY 1176 which I love, but I have to say that Klark Teknik sounds very much like it (almost identical with maybe a tiny bit less bottom end). I'm pleasantly surprised.
Great video)))
Maybe LA 2A next))
