I`ve been using it a lot lately for recording vocals from the Wa73-Eq to the Wa76 . I think it has a great character compared to other brands that sound lifeless. Also, using them on individual drum samples is almost like cheating :)))
Cool video! However, i do not agree that this is a clean unit. Maybe mine is a slightly faulty, I don´t know but I´m getting a lot of character out if it. But - I love it for rock and metal vocals, it really helps them cut through the mix :)
I feel like this unit has a brick wall type behaviour on transient materials like drums. I compared it to an originals etc, the originals really added spank to a snare drum, they emphasised punch, where the Warm just crushed the source with no punch. Maybe I had a bad unit?
Nope it basically does exactly what you described to the transient ! But i will say i kinda like what it does depending the style, if you try to go for that lo-fi 90's drum sound, very flat with no sustain, it does that very well, straight forward, "smashed" snare/kick sound that the urei or most 76 clones can't give you, and the color it adds is not unpleasant.
@@theCarouselPainter it’s unusable imo. When I was auditioning the unit I kept asking myself how they could even get to a point where they approved the design. I mean, if they didn’t have a genuine UA1176 on the bench during R&D I’d be seriously worried. My assumption is that they didn’t actually spend time in R&D on percussive sources ie snare, Tom’s etc. it sucks the life out of them.
@@chrisdover8507Yeah, idk. If its an older unit you may have gotten one with faulty build and/or components. I have a UA 1176ln, two Audio-Scape 76F's and two WA76's and they compare quite favorably to all the others. Definitely great for snapping up kicks and snares. Mine certainly don't "suck the life out" of my drums. They effect the transients, sure but that's their job. And it's in a good way. For my money I still think the WA76 is their best product but they did have a lot of faulty stuff leave their factory. Outboard and mics.
I think I’ve figured out what is wrong with Warm’s WA76. It’s the knee character. To the top of the knee is basically a brick wall, it cuts off anything. It’s a design flaw imo. I’d like to know if they graphed the knee and I’d like the graph. Hopefully they fix this imo
All you nerds out there, listen up! Resistors, capacitors, diodes and any other electronic components have NO effect on sound! They are transparent. The only thing is the transformer that adds coloration
@@gabet3754 no I just have a bit more knowledge than yourself. Where did you get that information from? Everything you mentioned has more affect on the sound than the transformers. Transformers generally contribute 10-20% of the sound.
If you think that a collection of uber-cheap, Chinese electrolytics is going to be as effective as a well made, low tolerance batch and have no effect on the sound of an audio circuit, you're mistaken. Theory might tell you that but actual practice will prove to you different. Atop listening to Josh Scott. He just wants to sell you cheap Chinese SMD.
Warm audio. has really helped me learn to shape my sound with their analog gear. Thanks guys. keep up the good work.
Awesome! I just bought a WA76 2 weeks ago!
Hope you enjoy the new gear! Hit us up with any questions.
I love this deep dive video. I'd love to see these on all of your pieces.
big like from "ISRAEL" !!

@@gabet3754 lol you obviously have no idea
