  • Abandoned 1963 Chevy Impala SS 4-speed pulled out of the woods after 40 years. The Junkyard Life Rescue team, led by Keith Lively, hustled into action in the backwoods of Alabama. All it took to rescue the onetime gold Impala was a chainsaw, a monster Jeep and a tractor. The Impala SS was among a small hoard of mostly Chevrolet iron that was left for dead in the 1970s after their engines were snagged for roundy-round racing. A 1970 Chevelle, several Vegas, one Chevy II, and a 1967 Bel Air 2-door post were hauled home.
    The 1963 Impala was a true SS with bucket seats and a 4-speed. Score! It took Keith a couple of years of occasional checking in with the property owner to get hold of this gaggle of Chevrolet goodness, but he did it! The Impala has so many great parts and even a spare set of bucket seats in the trunk. We want to see this classic brought back to life! Stay tuned to Junkyard Life for more.

    Love seeing this! My grandfather had a 65 Impala and now I've got one. Had it brought in from Seattle to Pittsburgh. My and my brother are currently getting it street-worthy again. It'll take some work and money, but it's worth it.

      Troy Dzuricsko my first car was a 65 impala ss
      It had a 283 with a power glide transmission
      I was only 15 at the time in 1972 when my dad found it in the paper
      I paid 300 dollars for it and the interior was immaculate
      It needed a paint job but it ran great except the transmission leaked and I’d have to add fluid to it every once in awhile
      Enjoy the 65
      PS I live in California but my dad is originally from Pittsburgh

    There's a certain amount of "energy" in the air and an "adrenaline rush" when you find and load a "diamond in the ruff" like this.....been there and done that many times over the past 40 years!! ;-) I pulled a '61 Impala "bubbletop" out of an Indian reservation years ago....it was neglected and all the glass was broken out, but it was all there and basically a rust free car. I had a clean sedan donor car that I sold with it (and along with many other parts) the two became one good one.

    Great job. Around 1998 I recovered a 1978 Z-28 shell. I put the whole thing on jacks and block to where it was balancing on two the them then put my trailer as far under as it would go then pushed the car down onto the trailer. Lol. You do what you gotta do with what you have. Great save. Just get it running and leave the rest as is. Great patina. Aloha from Hawaii.

    Absolutely worth saving. I do hope first and foremost you get a clear legit title before you go to the trouble and expense to build it.
    I fought for and lost a court battle over a 1968 roadrunner I bought in a junkyard from the yard owner. I found the last guy who owned it 20 years before and he all of a sudden got nostalgic about it and wanted it. Learned lesson number one! Good luck on the build. Looking forward to updates.

    • @Junkyardlife
      @Junkyardlife  6 років тому

      That’s too bad about the Road Runner. In Alabama you can get by with a Bill of Sale on cars over 35 years old. The key is to register it/inspection (get visual inspection that it is the car) with DMV, even if you have to tow it there. Also, prove you have insurance for DMV here. Builders insurance policy should work for something like the Impala.

    • @704406bbl
      @704406bbl 6 років тому +1

      Man you Alabama guys are lucky! Here in North Carolina not as much. That's a sweet find. What engine are you putting in that fine old SS. On a happier note I did get two more roadrunners a 69 and a 70 with clean paper work.

    My 64 chevelle was like that when I got it but had a good frame the previous owner replaced it due to it breaking in half when he T boned another guy in a rotary. It's just a matter of stripping it down and assessing what needs fixing. When I got mine it needed full quarters and they weren't being made by anybody. I called goodmark once a year for 8 years straight and talked to there executives about making them. When they finally did I started a full frame off restore. Did all the work myself and saved a lot on labor that way. I'm not a body man by trade I'm self taught and believe anybody of they try can fix these cars. The last show I attended I won first place beating 2900 other cars so if I can do it in my tiny garage I know you can bring that back to life. Good luck keep the updates coming.

    I say Bugger the so called owner....Good on you Guys for Resuing the old 1963 Chevy ...The Impala was just sitting there rusting away in the forest for a very long time. Better to do something with it instead of the car rusting away into the forest. Finders Keepers.....Yer Baby

    It's great that they have these things in place. I'm not sure how it works in Canada B C if you don't have a title ?
    Maybe theres ways around it.
    Good to see that you got her on the trailer and it's going to a new home instead of rotting away in the bush. Good one !

      Where there’s a will there’s a way! A bill of sale and mind all the rules at the DMV, and any car older than 35 years can be registered in Alabama. Be smart - Always know who your buying from - if there were some shady deals made in the past, then you’re not the one holding the bag. The name/address of previous owner you bought from will have a turn at tracing history/paperwork of vehicle. Keep good records. ;)

      Although not my favourite year impala, a nice rare old chevy all the same.
      Too bad it didn't have the original 283 or 327 engine.
      Keep on Wrenchen !

    I want to see y'all unload it. Hopefully you have a wheeled dolly system to unload it. That would be a big help considering no wheels, axles; etc. Good luck.
