I think you guys are missing the point of the Mad Hatter. They weren’t in love with each other and they didn’t have romantic feelings. The different characters were symbolic of People Alice actually knew back home. For example, the twins were represented by Tweedleded and Tweedledumb, and the hare represented Alice’s aunt. It’s clear that the hatter was symbolic of Alice’s father. He’s very creative and considered outlandish, just like her father was. Alice related to her father more than anyone else in the world. Yes. But when he was 20 he was frozen in time. Time only just started up again in this movie. He's still 20 and Alice is now 18-19. I don't think he loved her yet when she was 8. That's just weird. It was more of a friendship. But it grew as Alice got older and the second time she came they were almost the same age. In the original script they were supposed to have something between them, even if the Hatter was too crazy and innocent to have it be typical love. They were supposed to kiss too.
@abf2790 I believe he said "Fair Farren, Alice,". Mind you, I haven't seen this movie in a looong time, but I think it means, "Goodbye" in wonderland terms.
I remember first time watching this I cried so dang hard it’s just some very pure sadness and little innocence we’ve lost came back that we thought we would never found it again 😢😢😢😢
I thought this would kinda end up like in Night at the Museum 2, that she'd meet someone played by Johnny Depp who was like the Mad Hatter, from the persona, you know. But instead the Blue Caterpillar turned into a Butterfly.
Screw this! the Hatter loves Alice, not as something going into a carnal relationship, the Hatter loves Alice out of pure and genuine love, that first love of our adolescence... I'm 28 years old... and this scene made me cry, because the hatter still doesn't understand how he feels about her but he knows he loves her somehow...I went through this crap...😔😔😔
I kind of want them to be together and I don't want them to be at the same time...after watching the second movie I had mixed feelings and I suppose it ultimately comes down to this: Alice truly belongs in her world and romance would honestly be best found there for her. At the same time, Hater isn't entirely right in the head, and tbh I don't entirely think his personality would exactly allow for that type of love. The second movie really touches on Hater's mental state and he just--I don't know, he just seems too...vulnerable for a romance with Alice. With anyone, really. But that's not saying that they can't have a deep, intimate relationship that could, honestly, be better than any romance could promise. That's my take. Thoughts?
Another note: they certainly love each other. In what way is not entirely clear, but they truly and deeply love each other. That much is made very, very clear by the second movie.
In the script, Tim Burton was going to say that he was her love interest, but decided not to....but he did give a few hints. One was when Hatter said, “You could stay”
They are both mad and crazy together! Only if we got a 3rd movie of them, where Alice realises she’s loves Tarrant and says goodbye to her mother, her going to underland, finding tarrant, meet his family and get married and have children, there’s a reason why she rejected hamish, you can clearly tell when she says to hsmish “you’re not the right man for me” whereas hatter is the right man for her, he treats her like a gentleman, and knows her really well both of them do if you see the second movie why hasn’t hatter find a girl for him to get married like Mirana or any other? Because he’s waiting for Alice and he loves her and why hasn’t Alice found any men to marry him? Because she loves hatter, none of them are right for him or her except each other, it’s like fate saying to them come on, you two are meant to be together OTP! #MALICE FOREVER 🩵❤️🧡🎩
