- In this video, Wes replaces the front struts on a Honda CR-V. Watch to see the step by step process.
Welcome to “The Stanley Way” channel where we will cover just about every project that a typical American family will encounter. This is not a “pro how to” channel, just an ordinary guy videoing his own projects.
Current and future projects include converting two bedrooms and a bath into a movie theater, installing a hybrid water heater, cleaning and painting the garage floor, building a mega shed, Kiwico projects, installing a hybrid solar panel system and many auto repairs.
We will also post videos of various DIY science projects, mountain bike rides, and whatever else we like to do.
You may learn something, you may not, but somewhere along the line you will probably laugh as Wes documents even his most embarrassing mistakes.
I accidentally edited out the torque for the self locking nut that holds the top mount to the strut. It is 33 foot pounds (44 Nm) along with the 5 top mount nuts.
Link to the Jack stand Safety 3 ton Jack Stand Jackstand Jack Automatic Lift a.co/d/jjLclK1.
It isn’t always available so check often to see.
nice video, very illustrative, thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us!
@@LaserJet58 thank you!
You are already saving a ton by doing it yourself, It it easy as possible, buy the strut with the spring.
He already owns the spring compressor tool so might as well use it.
If you have access to an air impact, you can sometimes just zap out the sway bar link nut and the top strut nut without them spinning on you. Makes life easy. 😊
Thank you sir.
Great job. Thank you for sharing :)
Thanks for watching!
Nice work! I can tell this isn’t your “first rodeo”! Everything I’ve seen before wants the axle nut off and replaced and knuckle out and off. Thanks for this video!
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Great explanation for struts replacement
Thank you!!
Great sharing thank you for that be careful to avoid accident 😊
Clever socket trick
Thanks.
Good job
Good video nice job!
Thanks
Great helpful video. I would like to ask whats the code for your bump stop and bellows? It appears its different from stock?
You can get the whole strut and spring for a really resonable price on rock auto. I think you can get all 4 for under 400
What is the name of that type of jack stand? Never seen something like that.
Greg vid, personally I am going to go with a set that has the springs already installed on so that I don't have to mess with a spring compressor. Also although the springs usually don't fail, they probably are not at OEM height after so many miles.
I got the Jack stand on Amazon. Safety 3 ton Jack Stand Jackstand Jack Automatic Lift a.co/d/jjLclK1
It isn’t always available for some reason but it seems to be available now.
nice i subscribed and liked
Thanks, I appreciate you!
I think you have the only video that shows how to build a strut for 3rd generation CRV. Thank You for that. I am planning on using the KYB Excel-G struts myself. I have a few questions I was hoping you could answer. You used the KYB bellows, which brand mount did you use? Can you give us links to the spring tool and the nifty jack stands you used? And, would a pass through ratchet work for the mount installation? Thank You.
Let me work on that for you, give me a few minutes to answer your questions and add the links.
I used KYB strut mounts and I got all of the struts and mounts from Parts Geek. Strut mount part number I used was 96883-05599776.
Coil spring tool came from HarborFreight MADDOX MacPherson Strut Spring Compressor Set - Item 63262 hftools.com/app63262.
Jack stand was from Amazon VKRP Enterprises Safety 3 ton... www.amazon.com/dp/B07KNH38VS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share.
Yes I think a pass thru ratchet would work. It will probably work better than my cut away socket.
You are welcome and let me know if you have any more questions. Good luck.
I just realized the Jack stand says no longer available and every other site that has this type of stand says “sold out.” Welcome to post pandemic supply chains I guess. Sorry about that.
Hi Stanley Way, thanks for all of the help. I am going to do mine this weekend but I am worried about the strut mounts. The so called bearing part of the mount looks so cheap. Do you still have your CRV? Is it holding up ok?
@@derekthornton1328 I do still have the CR-V and it is doing fine. There is a noise when you first turn after it has been sitting all night, usually when my wife turns out if the driveway in the morning. I don’t see any safety issues or problems just annoying. This could be the bearings you are talking about. I plan on checking it out soon to see exactly what it is.
Good job explaining but was hoping to hear some torque specifications
If you need torques I can look them up for you.
What were symptoms of bad strut pls?
We had a lot of knocking noises when hitting bumps and ride quality was bad. You may also see oil on the strut indicating a leak and odd tire wear. Most people notice the clunking sounds more than anything.
multumesc pentru revenire ///33 foot pounds
What is the torque of center nylock bolt?
It is 33 foot pounds. I think I sped the video up on that part cutting it out. Sorry about that.
@@TheStanleyWay ,It's OK for that! and thank you very very much for your attention!
My struts are made by Nissin Showa (2011 crv). Do you know anything about the brand? I tried looking it up on the internet but to no avail. I was thinking they used KYB/SACHS for oem.
No I don’t know anything about that brand.
Takozun alt körüğü nerden yenisini almadığını bana soylermisin
Alt körükler ve darbeler struts ile geldi. Parts Geek'ten KYB satın aldım.
What is the socket size of the original mk3 CRV top strut nut?
If you are talking about the one that I cut away it is 17mm.
Has Anyone with a cr-v had issues with KYB ready strut? I'm reading on some forums that their all on one struts use the wrong angle with their mount on the top.
I have never used KYB ready struts but I have not heard anything good about any ready strut. That is why I buy the strut only and reuse the springs. The Honda springs are excellent so I didn’t want to replace them with something substandard.
@@TheStanleyWay Did you use a KYB top mount, or OEM on this vid?
@crispa1861 KYB
@@TheStanleyWay thx, btw, great video.
@@crispa1861 thank you.
19:39 how many Nm? Thx
44 Nm
@@TheStanleyWay 🙏🏻👍🏻
And top 5 screws?
@@Goethetractor same as the damper nut, 44 Nm.
@@TheStanleyWay sure? 🤔 top 5 screws M8 or M10?!

Great helpful video. I would like to ask whats the code for your bump stop and bellows? It appears its different from stock?
Thanks, I used a kit from Partsgeek.com part number 96883-05043483. It is a KYB bellows kit.
Thank you very much
