Bad Guy I believe with this issue it was more of a symptom rather than a fault code. But when you have a fault code it would say something like Intake Throttle Valve deviation. I don’t remember exactly what the fault code or codes could be.

2016 cascadia I got fault code SPN 3464 FMI 16 and I already change the intake pressure boost sensor could it be the throttle valve and do we need to calibrate with computer or I just install and it will calibrate it’s on please advise thanks

@@CarlosDieselElectric but turbo works fine o hear the whistle and turbo boost meter shows when you switching into higher and lower gear with jack on some time truck runs like butter but some time even bobtail drive so heavy and code clear by it self and then comes back .. wha could be please advise thanks

I just got that code too on my 2019 freightliner cascadia 3509-4 and 1066-12 and it won’t even shift. Any help?
Need some advise here before replace the Intake Throttle Valve. Using DDDL I can test it send a command and it moves is the position I requested my thing is when the Semi is driving or when I initiate a Regen I have no readings on those two sections. The butterfly inside is not stuck you can move it by hand and by using DDDL software. So any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I got a code and replaced it with a new on because it didn't cycle when I turned the ignition ON. Still doesn't cycle with new/old throttle valve. What you think is the problem? Code went away too...

My 2015 DD15 recently started increasing RPM after I down shift. For example- I rev the engine drop a gear the RPMs eventually drop then suddenly they jump right back up momentarily. It sounds like it is trying to drop another gear as if it has an automatic transmission. Is this a throttle valve issue, or something else?

Mines don't cycle when I turn the key, truck drives and idle fine, only thing I've been noticing is a sound like when the air compressor on followed by a vibration when taking off up till about 50mph it goes away
Open the key (engine off) and try moving it manually. It should have heavy resistance and stay open.
When you open the key it should cycle (sweep) with the key

Hi question what are the problem you Can have with the truck having . I found my self replacing electric fuel meter and it fix the rpm up and form on idle but still no to much boost one guy in youtube mention actuator egr might causing de-rate issues . Can you give your thoughts

Low boost, recommend to check the Charge Air Cooler (pressure test) first before you replace the EGR actuator. If you have a leak this will cause the low boost.

Hey Carlos, this morning I got a code on my 13 Cascadia (eng 2 001 3464 throttle ) and I kept working thinking I would get to it on my day off. Everything was running good until I got to my last load and my truck would release a lot of black smoke on the higher rpms. The fault code is now gone but the smoke is there. You think that smoke has to do with the throttle valve?
george saucedo could be related. Has anyone plugged into your truck to read the actual fault code? If it is the ITV, this could cause issues. Remember things work electronically and mechanical, so electronically it could register properly but mechanically it could not be doing its job correctly. I’ve seen that happen many times.
As a preventive maintenance, can you clean these if dirty? Like cleaning throttle body on cars. Or not recommended?? Tbanks in advance
Jose Deleon that is a great question, you could try to clean the throttle valve but if the valve gets stuck you may still have to replace it down the road.
Luckily the price of an Intake Throttle Valve is pretty good. For a new one you are looking at around $175 or a factory rebuild but I don’t recommend those.
Hey I have a question I have a egn 1 3464 fault 16. engine light comes on then couple days goes off. a lot of times the code clears before I can check it. my truck runs great and my throttle body activates with key. I have checked and cleaned my connection same thing. any ideas? you think it's a faulty sensor? maybe pressure sensor. I don't know how to find it cause it's not consistent.

This diagnostic is typically Intake Throttle Valve Deviation Error.
There are a could of ways to troubleshoot.

I have a code, Engine 2 SPN 102 FMI 18 on 2016 dd15 cascadia I changed the intake manifold temp sensor, code cleared but came right back, took new sensor out ant it has soot all over again, any suggestions if you've ran into this problem.
Quick google search comes up with "Intake Manifold Pressure Lower than Expected Under a Load. Monitored Parameter" Check your CAC, check your venturi pipe and the ports for blockage. Also, if all those check out then run a parked regen and see what the numbers are. The DOC Inlet Pressure might suggest One Box issues. Excessive soot can be from injectors, valve adjustment so also have your mechanic run and idle speed balance test and see if any injectors might be off.
Quick question does the Intake Throttle Valve activate the EGR system? Also great video!
The intake throttle valve works with the EGR system during the regen process and also the driving process.

On cold weather and less than 1000 rpm like while warming up or driving on low shift it is very smoky but not once is warm up or at hot weather. My other truck is the same year and model . 2015 cascadia, and don't do this.
I changed injectors but still the same.

Jorge Fajardo puede ser que se está atorado en ciertos momentos y por eso está marcado el código. Lo bueno que la parte no cuesta mucho.

Hi ! I have 2016 Cascadia 350k miles. My engine feels like have some restriction to rotate sometimes, like it’s trying to adjust something and shakes more on Idle and turbo reads1-2 psi. (boost sensor replaced) When holding pedal steady at some 700-900 rpm It could start climbing with noticeable quieter vibration and resistance or drop about 50-100 rpm and more noise and vibration. When holding 1500rpm sometimes turbo reads 0 and highest I see is 6 psi. Same thing while driving downhill with no engine brake at1500rpm 0-6psi. When driving it’s also vary, sometimes it’s loose speed quicker and sometimes it’s going like crazy with much louder engine sound. Turbo readings also feels swinging sometimes and sometimes it’s pretty responsive to pedal. Working 23-27psi on gears 9-12. on lower gears it could hit 34 psi but after 9 gear it never get over 27 psi. In different places I been told All computer tests it passed as perfect engine, no any codes. MPG also jumpy and while doing regen time to time level of vibration and sound is different. Once it shakes so much so everything start falling from shelves. May it be trottle valve? Why no codes? Thanks for any answer or suggestion on what and where to look for.
I had something similar to this where the truck would have little turbo boost even with the accelerator all the way down. I used a test turbo and that did not change anything. I ended up swapping the MCM (motor control module), performed a road test and the boost came back.
Try using a test MCM to see if this helps.

The MCM is the computer for the engine. Sometimes it is called the ECM. Located on the driver side engine just below the fuel filter housing.

Omar Hussein no. It is self checking. When you turn the ignition on, the valve will sweep on its own.

I have a problem with my 09 accelerating, when changing gears it takes a few seconds before its rev up into power soon as i shift, if im idling I rev the engine and sometimes it raises like normal then sometimes it doesn't so im wondering is it the throttle valve bad or could it be the throttle position sensor? While I'm riding it accelerates fine once im going but when im shifting up or down shifting is when its a problem
You can connect the software and run some tests. This will allow you to see if there are any inactive or active faults.

Hey Carlos question how would the truck run if your having throttle valve problems?
Bernard Haddock typically there is fault code. Active would give you a Check Engine Light or Inactive, but you need the the Diagnostic Link Software to see.
Now physically the truck at idle may seem like it is dying as if fuel or air is not reaching the engine but when you accelerate it responds. During a regen (parked or driving) they maybe a surge or seem like the engine is hunting trying to stabilize at a certain RPM.
You could use the software any manually control but that has its limitations.
Ok can this effect your egr and turbo actuator performance?
Bernard Haddock possible since the ITV maybe closing instead of staying opening or not doing what the MCM ( computer) is commanding. What kind of truck are you working on? Do you have any fault codes? Active or Inactive?

2009 Freightliner Cascadia DD14 60 series I have DPF and EGR no DEF. But I had a fault code for a bad relay they switched the relay out and I thought that was the problem because they told me that's why the check engine light was coming on. Now a few months ago I had a DPF fault code the told me it was the EGR and got it replaced and that EGR was bad so they replaced it under warranty ever since I've been having problems! And I took it back to the shop and it was saying my egr was stuck close along with my turbo actuator valve restricted operabilty but they both were inactive!!
Bernard Haddock how is your engine harness? Is there oil contamination? Disconnect the injector harness on the driver side and check for oil. Also at the MCM on the 120 pin, remove and check for oil contamination. If oil is present then this could be the reason. Have any of the harness’s been replaced ?
I have a 2022 X15 Cummins 605/2050 and since new my throttle valve has always been very active, so much that sometimes it struggles to accelerate smoothly and between shifts the valve will close and knock the engine back to idle as if the Jake brake is on, just recently got a code for “injector metering rail 1 pressure high” do you think these could be related or do you think I’m having a fueling issue along with a faulty air throttle ?
I'm getting a code for spn 3510 fmi 4 not really sure I'm thinking either a sensor or my intake valve isn't working right .also experiencing power derate not speed
Sounds like it is ACM (aftertreatment) related. The book says Sensor Supply Bank 2, short to ground. So this can be a harness issues.
This can be a DEF Doser Valve issue.
Or the ACM.

Is the surge only at idle and goes away when your RPM is above 900-950 ?

zutilol glad to hear the code went away by itself. But the intake throttle valve has nothing to do with the DEF after treatment. It should still work because it is on the engine.

Usually after the SPN there should be another number that follows. That is usually the FMI part that is needed to narrow done the fault code. SPN is just part of it. Let me know what you have and I can try to help.
it shows eng 2 001 spn00005102 and spn00005104 and it's also says throttle POS
Jorge Facio more than likely it is your intake throttle valve. Go to someone that has the Detroit Diagnostic Link Software. This way they can confirm. If it is, buy the new throttle valve and not the reman.

Johnny Dayone sounds like the intake throttle valve. If you replace it, go with the NEW no the Detroit rebuilt. About $20-30 more but less issues
Well I got it at Freightliner now there saying its the quantity control valve...idk I hope that fixes it if not I will look into the throttle valve

It does look like it’s a Intake Throttle Valve related code, have you taken it to a shop to have someone connect the Diagnostic Link Software? What year is the truck and how many miles does it have?
@@CarlosDieselElectric it's a 2012 Freighliner Cascadia with 605,000 miles.
@@CarlosDieselElectric ok just a quick update, I did end up changing the throttle body valve and reset the fault codes and no more faults. Its really ended up being the sensor that sits on top of the actual valve. Changed the entire valve and sensor since it wasn't that expensive
Carbomb Torres I’m glad you were able to get your truck taken care of. I guess the fault code you had was for the intake sensor. Either way, replacing both is a win. Luckily the parts are not to expensive and labor is minimal.

Maybe, try removing the CAC hose and see if the valve is open. If it is open, start the truck and see if you have the same issue. What kind of engine do you have?

@@itsmrblack start with checking the Intake Throttle Valve. If it is stuck closed.
Check fuel supply, check your fuel filters (look for debris in the small filter), debris could be a bad fuel pump, are you able to read the MCM ( do you have a good connection).
Start with some of these things first.

The Trucker 3464 is the most common. There is usually an FMI number that follows. What code are you getting?
