Man I’m loving these videos, I’ve decided to become a diesel mechanic for semi trucks/trailers. I’m going to self learn until I can find a good diesel program. I would like to start with learning the electrical repair first (what I want to specialize in), so I have a power probe 4 master kit, and going to get the fluke 233. Figured I’d start with learning the battery, starter and alternator. I have a truck and trailer as test subjects😂 so At the end of each drive shift i want to do some hands on learning. Please let me know if this is a good plan and if I should invest in any other tools to start off with. Thanks
Thanks for reaching out and watching. I would say being a mech is an endless game of buying tools and cut up up by zip ties. Doing the elec side is how I started and it deff paid off as well. Anyone can change a part but not many can really diag. If your heart is set on it than elec side is the way to go. Fluke all the way. The others don’t compare.
Thanks for watching and reaching out. Can’t do it without support from viewers like yourself. I’m currently running the shop in Az chandler freightliner. So if you don’t mind dealer rates than come on down.
Great question. Depends on the type of vpod and the year of the Eng. this particular one, does not require re learn or calibration. Just plug and play.
Good question., when I get some free time.when I’m at work I just hustle to stay busy and build time and push trucks out. Making vids is a little tough when that’s my mentality.
dd15 spn 3597 fmi 4 freightliner (2015). It makes a whining noise whenever the code is active. My mechanic got me throwing parts at it. I replaced my MCM and both valve cover harnesses and it's still active. In the "detroit service information bulletin", it says to disconnect the OEM 31 pin connector to see if the code become inactive. Where is that sucker located?
Hi I have a truck 2016 freightliner day cab , has spn 411 fmi 1 and spn 3058 fmi 9 I did Delta pressure port Cleaning but still have the light on and off , do you know what is going on with this truck? please let me know thank you!
Not a problem and glad it came in handy for you. At least with the knowledge of behind the scenes so you know what the dealer would be doing. The scr (selective catalyst reduction) would test the aftertreatment system kinda like a regen but main focus would be on the def side of things. That would be a scr effiencey test. An scr ads test would test the def pump, def doser and lines to find out if theres a leak or restriction. Hopefully they have parts available for you, lately its been nuts...
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 thanks for all the info! What should I tell them to do? Is it called the SCR efficiency test? Do you think they will also do a regen? 😬
@@notanotherusername as long as they follow the proper troubleshooting and verification process than you shouldn’t have to tell them anything. You can always request the tech notes or story to help you feel a bit more confident in there work.
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 thank you!! What is the difference between the EGR valve and the EGR actuator? By the way, I am rewatching your video here and I love your sense of humor 😆
@@notanotherusername appreciate it man. Only a few people get my humor, it’s Deff Strange one. The EGR valve actuator electronically controlles the EGR valve itself. So think of it as one electric piece and one mechanical piece. Both regulate how much exhaust flow will be sent back into the intake for recirculation and raises internal combustion temps. Which is a good thing for better fueling. Hope that clears some things up.
I absolutely need you as my mechanic. Just got out of velocity in Whittier CA after 2 weeks of waiting for a simple😮 dpf filter replacement for 2018 freightliner cascadia. 2 weeks bro, I'm in need, where are you and how can I have you directly as a mechanic sir.
I completely understand your frustration with some dealers you never know what you’re going to get. If you’re looking for a better one, come on down to velocity in Chandler Arizona. Much quicker work and great people to deal with.
This code is typically a parameter issue or switch issue for the engine brake switch. Either switch is bad, wiring has an issue , or the parameters need to be checked incase it’s not being seen anymore.
The jake brakes seem to be working fine. Is there wiring on the actual engine to check? I have a little scan tool for regen purposes. I reset the code, but it comes back. 🤷♂️.
@@Poppi3579 there is and depending on year of Eng it changes slightly. But t/s would have you separate under valve cover wiring from engine sensor harnes wiring and see which side has the issue. But it’s best to start with a diag computer and see if the switch is registering otherwise we’d be wasting much useful time.
Mr Diesel Doctor my truck has the following codes: SPN 2659 FMI 18 EGR Flow Target Error Diagnostic - Low flow SPN 3058 FMI 10 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Slow Response SPN 411 FMI 1 EGR differential pressure too low (high box) I changed out the EGR Cooler and the Delta P sensor but the codes won’t go away. Would swapping out the EGR actuator make these codes clear?
Thanks for reaching out. Those low flow codes are mainly EGR actuator error or EGR valve being stuck issues. Best advise is to go through the t/s for 2659 which has you verifying its working correctly than go from there. Without a diag computer it’s going to be hard to accomplish because that tells you a lot of what you need to know. But more than likely we’re looking at a EGR actuator issue. And don’t forget these videos can make great holidays gifts.
Thanks for watching. This coat to be a tricky one and can often be caused by back pressure in the aftertreatment system. In which no repair is really necessary. There might be an issue with the delta P sensor or clogged ports, any exhaust leaks or boost leaks, Or strangely enough if the DPF needs a region is for too long can cause this code. Really we just need a diving with a computer I hope that helps and appreciate your support in this channel

great video. quick question I have low voltage on my 2013 freightliner with a dd15. I have new batteries and new alternator and my voltage is still at 12volts. what could be causing the low voltage?
Great question, that issue is typically caused by a bad wire or fuse to the remote sense. Check that fuse and ensure it’s good. With that blown it’ll never act right. After that you may be getting poor grounds to the cab of its reading wrong and your alternator is truly putting out 14v. Check the actual alt output than fuse than sense wire.
