isfp here; we are good at accepting problems when we know there *is* a resolution (car being towed example). Emotional issues are rather complex for me, however, because we cannot see the end result.

I find the "act" of complaining - whining, sighing, commenting on the perceived unfairness - is like a vent for ISFPs. We tend to complain as a way of connecting with other people, to create that first 'bond' between us, allowing us to open up and share without being too personal.
In the end, it's useful when others ask for input on what could be changed, as ISFPs have already probably written up a mental checklist of everything "wrong". However, it is not so useful when you can't think of anything else to talk about, and your complaints just sound like pathetic whinging.

    Isfp here.
    I'm glad I heard you.
Must say that I admire the time and energy you spend in understanding other personalities.
Your pov about isfp in general is strikingly true.
So basically Ne is non existent so we can't prognosticate future events and people's intent at all.
We take everything for how it presents us at " that very point ''.
We do sense the subtle changes in the atmosphere around us.
And if there is some sort of negative energy right at that moment we can sense it and feel accordingly.
Putting it simple, if an arachnophobiac isfp's car breaks down in the middle of somewhere he won't freak out just because his car broke-down.
meanwhile, he is gonna definitey freak out real soon if he sees a spider on his shirt.
We are quick with our reflexes and quick with letting go of those fears once things pass by.
We want to give people a better experience through our (Se) so we dislike feeling negative (bcz let's just say it's hard to contain your emotions and act normal).
There is so much depth to how an ISFP behaves and since we struggle about explaining our own emotions and inner state, it's hard for many ppl to get to know us at all.

  • @witnessj1958

As an ISFP, you were spot on with how we solve our problems. We don't freak out because we know that every problem can be fixed. We know to take a breather and take things as they come because just thinking about all the bad won't help anything. But yeah, what you said is so on-the-nose. Life is simple. Very chill lol
Edit: My mom was very straight on being an independent woman and wouldn't spend a lot of time with me but I was spoiled with things and stuff. As I grew with that I understood that things go away, just like people. We are left to observe the world around us and that's how I think ISFP's have found the beauty in the simplest things. Things come and go, like problems, but that's what makes people and those close to us even more special.

Nice video! As an ISFP the way I take decisions is just like you described. Before doing anything I ask myself if I'm ok with the possible consecuences that might arise from my decision, if I decide to do it then there's no point in complaining or feeling bad because it's like I already commited to all the good and bad things that the decision presented in the first place.
This is mainly the reason why it might appear that when problem arises I don't freak out about them, I was already aware of them and didn't consider them big enough to stop me from doing something.

OMG you're so intuitive, so right! just bumped into this video. I mistyped for infp and always wondered why they say we're depressed since I was never a sad person or isolated or weird.
I was always into beauty, color, light, warmth, that comfy vibe, always made a beautiful warm life around me I need to stay in all the time ,I love fluffy dogs and nature, music, am active, that makes me very optimistic at heart and uplifting to others too. Everyone feels so good in my home, and acknowledge my style and taste and that's not an INFP thing.
I still mistype as an INFP but I know I'm not one. You tube videos are way more claryfing than the actual test. I sometimes mistyped for infj too which is way NOT! :))
It's very tricky really since you don't have any reference, you don't really know how other people function, you don't really know what overthinking is (as you said) cause you can't compare. You're basically stuck in your own little bubble world as we all are and have to figure it all out, and there are the inferior functions you need to develop. It's all so subconscious.

This reminds me of my art history teacher. He was telling about an artist’s paintings he finally got to see irl. But it wasn’t as he hoped because he already knew everything and saw it a ton of times through pictures. And he was kind of let down. He said he was jealous of the people who do experience this feeling then they see it for the first time. How some people next to him were actually crying or in disbelief. He was jealous of them being capable of feeling that emotion he cannot and wished he could trade. I will for always remember that comment because on one side I cannot relate with that feeling of jealousy. I would probably think about those people ‘this is so beautiful, they’re crying because of a painting!’ instead. But I also felt sad he thinks he is missing out on an experience.

As an ISFP I do control my emotions except for school tests where all my anxiety comes and stress... I do have a quite good control over my emotions so much that I appear cold sometimes. It’s just that I can’t really stand criticism(over things I’m working on and passionate. Where I put my heart 100%) and if it comes from people I love it will be quite of a dramatic show. And all my nerves come speaking to an audience as I don’t have much experience doing so.
Also my language is too simple and literal to be an intuitive. Like metaphorical language doesn’t come easy with me. And I’m usually “in my face” and my intuitive friends always come with complicate things and I’m like”I never thought about it that way”. And my intuitive classmates always complicate themselves too much(I do sometimes that too but most of time I think I complicate myself but actually I’m not) and I’m always like “Why”. When you can do it more simple

Duddee yess what you said about ISFPs being like "If they show they are disinterested, believe them." and NFPs feeling like it's on them to fix it or that there are reasons we can't see behind why or why not they are showing a lack of interest, so we don't really know. Hahaha, this literally happened to me when I was showing interest towards an ISFP and all the ISFPs on personality cafe showed me the way out of that one. LOL. But that is literally the best dating advice for any NFP - to take what personality they are showing you or take what the person it is they are showing you at face value. To not make excuses for them or try to see the "metaphysical realm" of what could or could not be there. But to take what is happening to you in front of your face at face value. And to also try to show people our personalities in front of others' faces rather than theorize or fantasize about the relationship. Not paying attention to the actions of others and our very own inaction keep us from moving things forward in life and understanding life more through life experience rather than in our metaphysical realm or theory hidden in our brains.
ISFPs in that simplicity have taught me so much in just the way they live. Our similarities with Fi and Te help me relate enough to then see their more simplistic and straightforward view rather than in my weirdo dream world that is super impractical to a point that infuriates me hahaha

I generally enjoy your videos, and really appreciate the thought you put into them and enjoy your speaking style, so thank you. I wanted to add a comment though on what you said about Fe being more evolved than Fi as I think there is a gross misunderstanding of Fi on the internet by those with Fe, and by some who actually think they have Fi, and do not.
My mother is an INFP/ISFP and often discusses MBTI theory with my INTP brother and so, I often overhear them talking and will just let you know what she says as I think it will help others to understand by someone who uses Fi in a very intense nature. Keep in mind this is a theory they are discussing and are still working on, but all of MBTI is just a theory right now.
Fi is introspective and aligns it'self with holistic truths, values, and morals, at least for those with Fi in their first or second slot. Fi, atleast for my mother and some others who have it in their first slot, is something where they seek to keep their selves authentic and honest, and spend the majority of their day, every day, putting together this framework of objective morality, but not only objective, but values that they believe are in a gray area. This helps those that may have a moral quandary as to why something may be black and white morally, and why some things are not, and should be more in the, " live and let live" category, if there is a moral squabble.
Fi dominant people, atleast INFPS, are truth seekers and the equivalent of the INTP in the "Feeling" world. Both build immense frameworks.. Jung said that FI and TI are the same in all respects but what Ti thinks, Fi feels. I agree mostly with this assessment, except that INFPS and perhaps some Isfps spend a great deal of time thinking logically, and assessing their values to make sure they are consistent in this large framework they have built. And many times because they believe a certain value is objectively moral, will put aside their own feelings and go with what is objectively true.
Just a side note, there is this misconception that INFPs and ISFPs do not do logic, and this simply isn't true, my mom scored very high in deductive and inductive logic tests better than and/or equal to several logical thinking types who took the test, and so do a lot of Fi dominant people. They simply understand that sometimes the moral thing is the right thing to do, even if it is not always efficient, but can also can make hard decisions and put aside their feelings if they believe it is the most logical, according to the framework they have built. MBTI , they believe, has a lot of misconceptions built around Fi and that is another topic altogether....
Just as the INTP spends their day understanding impersonal frameworks and then they put forth their hard work, and the INTJ and other thinking types then use this in some fashion, the INFP spends their days working on a moral framework for the feeling types and puts forth their "judgement" so that the FE types can put them to use. This isn't to say that the Fi dominants or at least INFPs are the moral authority in all areas, but they are the best equipped for it or gifted for it in a secular setting. . Of course age, mental health, physical health, and upbringing can all play a part in the accuracy of their gift, as it can with any type.
INTPs use Ti to introspect on a theory, then NE to analyze it from every angle and to doubt truth so that they search for accuracy, then Si so that they don't go too far out in left field, or to simply look to the past for wisdom in their search for truth, and finally their extroverted feeling helps them to put it forth and take action. It is the same for the INFP, who has Fi to introspect on their own moral behavior, then NE to analyze it from every angle and also to cause them to doubt the facts so that they check more for accuracy, then Si to compare to those who came before them and what they thought, and then Te to make a firm and permanent decision, then it goes to the framework area marked, "objective."
Which takes some time for it to get to the point of being able to be marked objective as they have NE as their second functions which makes them doubt and search for certainty.
Unfortunately, not to get off topic, but when an INTP doubts the facts he is called a genius, but when an INFP doubts the facts they are labeled illogical .
There are obviously going to be some issues in comparing the framework of the INTP with the INFP, and using the word objective as an adjective for moral values.
As I said, they spend their lives building this framework, and a person needs to be very introspective to build a framework. A person can not even be very logically consistent, if they are not very introspective. This is where Fi, in your first function slot, really shines, atleast with INFPs. So, just as Ti is not selfish, but is introspective, Fi is also very introspective. And though it is very self focused, it ultimately serves a purpose for the group and individual alike.
Just picture a person internally with a microscope policing their every thought and action and comparing it to the information on their framework and making sure it not only aligns but is logically consistent. I believe the INFP was gifted to be a form of judge, but not a modern one, as modern judges obviously need to be able to sometimes make quick decisions. . I think they are the ones most well equipped and gifted, after a certain amount of years of building their framework, in writing moral laws and such, and as this framework grows and matures, this equips them to make quicker judgments that are accurate in mediating and using their gifts in other areas of moral quandaries.
That is really over simplifying it, because Fi dominants or at least INFPS, spend immense amounts of work analyzing morality and putting it in it's proper place. I often find that those who are FE dominant, do not understand this and simply think it is more of a selfish feeling function.
Because Fi works the way it does, it forces the gifted dominant user to be honest, and to tap into the immense framework they built, which would allow them to deal as a better mediator in a moral quandary, a better philosopher, champion of under dogs, political activist, and dare I say moral judge etc....Think of this the next time you think of a corrupt judge and wonder if you didn't wish they were someone with dominant Fi who not only has given most moral questions their proper and painfully exhausting analytical weight, but the person who is authentic and honest too.
And though this gift obviously works while they are young, it is limited, because their framework is still being built.....so while young Fi dominants still have some important insights that other types need, they really shine as they have been in their element 20 years or more.
Fi, also is very concerned with the harmony of the group, just not at the expense of an individual, if this individual hasn't violated a core value and deserves their rescuing., which wll be determined by moral logic in their framework as every moral thought and decision is.
And of course there are going to be those who object to some of what I said about using a logical frame work in regards to objective morality, but that is an entire other discussion.
Fi dominants care very much for the group, and that is why they do what they do. Someone has to be able to go against the group and make sure what the group thinks, is morally correct. Someone has to question the traditions that Fe works so hard to guard. Someone has to make sure the group isn't drinking the Kool Aid. That is why you see Fi dominants not trusting the group, or at least INFPs do this, and instead analyzing and going through their truth seeking functional stack and accessing their framework to make sure everything pans out.
They love the group, they want to join in, but the group has to align with their morals, as no one puts as much thought to it as they do. Where as Fe wants to align with the group, Fi wants the group to align to it. There is a reason for that. Fi dominants, or at least INFPs, are truth seekers and that is how the community works and utilizes each others gifts. And as the Fi gives their corrections or judgments and Fe uses them, Fe strongly guards the group and helps preserve this truth and spreads it to others.
This is why they are both needed greatly, but Fe is not in any way shape or form more superior or evolved. If anything Fe can not really function, healthily without Fi. Think of Fi as giving Fe it's booster shots. It helps to inoculate against bad moral judgement and thinking.
And again not every INFP is going to be as accurate as the next because there are some issues that are going to cause differences in opinion as to what goes to the objective stack and what goes to the "live and let live" stack.
This is their theory, thus far, but they are still working on it.

Intj here. I have really good friend which is ISFP for almost 6 years ( since college). I just know his personality last month when he tested ( I usggested for him and he is happy all the results are so relatable) . For a whole time being his friend, I think he is adventurous, not afraid to go to any length to chase what he want, he got many languages to master ( like Chinese, Japanese, indonesia and little English), and somehow he is so laid back. He is compromize when face any problem, he is so sociable but actually he admit he always make sure to have alone time since he need it. We are resonate so well from hard-working, sharing our experience about deep and value. And at least he has sense of humor He has keen on his appearance too. He is commits to long term relationship with his gf since high school to 2 years after college yet they broke up. I can see ISFP is got hurt so bad but they can cut off with people they dont like if someone hurt their trust or their feeling. But nonetheless, You are the blessed soul to have ISFP around you.
    Next, dfferent story different friend.
Recently, I got to meet new friend that I have interested. I just know him for less than a week and he tried to test his mbti and also his result is ISFP. No wonder we can talk for hours and get along so easily even before I realized his mbti type. I can say INTJ-ISFP will gonna be a good friend for sure but for relationship , they have much more load of works yet they are amazing team as life partner. He also interested in me and so do I. hope I can be more tolerate and open up, get to know him better. Somehow his laid back trait made me boiling up but other than that, his whole being is all I have prayed for. I never this opening up to someone and so does he. I will try even though I know consequences. I will try harder so I wouldn't hurt him especially with my savageness/bluntness.
Bless you all, ISFPs in the world

Suddenly I can remember things from the past that is not about the present or in a situation where I am supposed to focus about a topic someone aske me about. That is one thing that was knawing at me inside on and off. My partner would sometimes tell me i comment on sense-based things a lot. An inverted INTJ hah! Makes sense why I might like them as much as I do. Like using similar functions but with a different focus? As an INTJ I admire many of the things you've said about them and what I've learned from other sources. The point they can be very confident in who they are and have such a soft spot for others while so masterful in the physical world. We have similar traits yet compliment each other in areas we wish we were better in.
From what I've researched so far people say the two types (INTJ-ISFP) are not compatible in much of any way. I find it hard to believe but I suppose I need more experience with them. Sure, the two may possibly take more work to understand and work together but if the two are at least relatively mature (which I think both strive for) and share similar or same values then It could probably make for an amazing duo. I do however understand that last part could be said for most types in a similar situation, lol. Just saying I'm thinking the two may get along better than most might think.
Totally would love to hear your further thoughts on ISFPs.

I’m an INFP who used to dreamt of traveling the world without leaving her house but now I finally managed to made my dream came true. I’ve been solo backpacking around the world for year now. my life become so adventure that I’m an adventurer and that I believe I’m learning and growing to be ISFP. Traveling the world taught me how to take things easy when things will not go as you expect. Of course it will never go as you expect especially traveling in a challenge country such as in Africa country. I learned how to be calm, because I know everything is gonna be ok and being calm help me to focus and solve the problem easier and wisely ( I used to freak out a lot ) and I don’t complain because I know I will not get anything positive out of it. And I don’t regret things because I can find good things in everything.
in the past years I’ve achieved so many goals and many dreams. Get out of my shell or even overcome my social phobia. For now I even dream bigger and strongly believe I can make all the dream not to be only just dream, I may overthink more than the ISFP but I’ll go for it anyway even I know it not going to be an easy road and that make it more fun and challenge!

ISFP and i’m a master of complaining. Previously mistaken myself as ENFP or INFP. I absolutely despise the phrase”Everyone likes this/Everyone does this”. Yeah everyone breaths but there aren’t many things everyone does. And i hate this generalization. Like i’m friends with popular squad i am not popular myself. Like i love kanye West and i love Taylor and my best friend was like”Taylor or Kanye. You can’t be both”. I’m like “I can.”
Even though i also notice when many people go in a particular direction
My mom’s like”Go and become an ITst. All your classmates go there”. And i’m like:no. I want to be a fashion designer. It’s their problem they love IT i don’t.”
I do sometimes shame myself for having desires though but the feeling doesn’t last long
My ISFP ass gets triggered when you are “ISFPs are....” like We’re not al The same. And not everything Gonna fit everyone
My best friend is INTP and it’s such an obvious difference between a sensor and an intuitive. I used to think i’m intuitive because i am a dreamer but there is such a difference between her and me. By being with her i actually realize i am so sensor it actually hurts. Like i usually try to make the most out of a moment but she always finds something to spoil it. Like we were on a trip 1 month before Maths exam. Our teacher brought us to a trip to study. Me and my ESFJ friends partied until morning and barely paid attention to class because “we wanted to have a good time”. She was so stressed. Went to bed early and shit. I think i overthink a lot. She overthinks twice as much as i do. Sometimes by overthinking i ruin everything too though(tertiary ni)
She asked me where do i plan to live when grow up(We’re 16). I’m like “On earth”
My mom is ENFJ my dad is INTJ and they always spoil my moments with “what if” and then i start to overthink as well. Like they induce my fears of failure(with my INTP friend) they induce every doubt i have

From an INFP's perspective, ISFPs seem better at concretely identifying their priorities, desires, and likes. Whereas, being an INFP, I think those things for us tend to be more abstract and more difficult to express or put into words, so perhaps we tend to feel more misunderstood or disconnected from others. Oh also ISFP's are more consistently better-dressed than us.

Even I'm stuck in that from time to time! ISFP here, but I do see the INFP traits in myself, maybe because ISFP & INFPs are double observers

Interesting; someone else in other comments who I was talking to about it said I was most probably INFP and the confusion was Ne coming up with different possibilities. What would you say are some descriptions or points that you don't relate to about INFPs (which make you more certain that you're ISFP).

Zauberholz I’m an isfp, I’d say infp is more idealistic and isfp doesn’t worry about things they can’t control which is unlike an infp also I love twenty one pilots too

I am an INFP married to an ISFP (30 years) I am an idealist and get cought up somewhere in deep thought (n) my wife is very grounded and in reality. I try to get her to think outside the box, while she tries to keep me in the real...hope this helps

I still have some confusion but I've stuck with INFP so far, seems to fit the best. Although I'm reasonably grounded and trust my senses in the way an ISFP might, I think I do focus on things outside of my control and generally think too much on everything a lot of the time haha. I'm an enneagram 4w5 if that makes any difference; I'd reckon an ISFP 4w5 would be much more easily confused with an INFP due to the idealistic nature of the 4 and the detached-from-the-now cerebral 5 (hence my confusion). Ah perhaps I'll never be certain! I'll stick with INFP I suppose, it does "feel" like the right one.

1:04 it’s funny the first time I did the test the results was that I’m istj but then with getting deep into mbti I learned that I am isfp and I really felt connected to the personality discretion

Intuition brains expresses A to Z with lots of specifics.
Isfp brains expresses itself with less words and to the point.
As an isfp i drain myself talking to much!

Lucky ISFPs how astutely they can identify their desires and then nurture it. That's also what I admire about the ISFP I know. He's unflinching. It's annoying but I admire it at the same time. Me being an INFJ, it's like being dumped all the desires I'll have in my lifetime. And the problem is which one to prioritize? Which one is more important at the moment? It frustrates me how simple-minded that person is...lol but when he wants something, he achieves it and masters it.

Fi may come across as less evolved than Fe, but again it depends on how you use it. Read into the tantra therapy healing process for instance. The real tantra. The origin. You will see a wise way of healing yourself and the world through tantra and how Fi can be used right there.

I am an INFJ and my GF is an ISFP, so I am gathering information about her type for a better understanding for both of us.
Just some advice. Slow down, gather your thoughts, give your subject in this case the ISFP a name like Jane or something. It's more relatable, and easier to follow and understand. Not everyone can follow the jargon. You'll reach a wider audience if you adjust your approach a bit. Also get out of the habit of inserting "like." I'm only saying this because I believe you and your viewers will benefit from this.
Keep making videos, keep helping others. We all need help from time to time.
