    Wow, what a great build. I’m always debating on giving up my 1st gen to get something never and then I come across a truck like yours and it inspires me to keep mine.

      They're great trucks, need some TLC at this age but can't beat the form-factor

    I repaired the timing belt on my '98 tacoma after it slipped. Engine runs the same after buying a timing belt and water pump kit and doing the install in my front yard a few summers ago. Still love my truck!

      Nice! Love the fact the 5VZFE in these Tacomas is a non-interference engine. And it's a pretty straight forward engine to work on.

    Great Vid and stellar analysis. Thumbs up on the serviceable ball joints. Went with that on my '92 Toyota Pickup (Hilux) IFS.

    Absolutely beautiful first gen build. Just looked up the info on the factory security system and that is awesome. I have a 04 with a similar build with a hiatus camper, need to do a walk around video soon. Thanks for sharing

    Love the build! I have an ‘03 Xtracab 4x4. I’m wanting to do those exact tires and the similar AR Outlaw IIs, but with all my measurements it seems that even with a wiper fluid reservoir relocation, fully adjusting the LCAs forward/increasing caster, and only doing the 15x7s in order to decrease the scrub radius, I’ll still need to flatten my pinch welds and maybe smash that nodule in the top front of the wheel wells in order to avoid rubbing at full compression.
    I was about to lose hope but then I find this clearly very conscientious and forward thinking build running them!
    Please let me know what if any of this you did, or if you just avoid flexing too much and tolerate the rubbing.
    Thanks so much in advance!

    Love the simple build. Those are some clear headlights. Did you get new oem lights or 3rd party. I've tried 3rd party but they would have weird shadows and send them back.

    What does storage for your kids entertainment in the cab of the truck while driving look like? (Books, snacks, toys, etc.) Do you do seat back pouches or anything?
    Great build!

    • @takethetruck
      @takethetruck  Рік тому

      Thanks! We generally keep snacks, books, etc in a collapsible organizer that sits between the kids car seats in back as well as a small storage box with a variety of different books and entertainment to rotate out 👍

    I'm more than likely going to be coming from a 3rd gen tacoma to a 1st gen tacoma. Im surprised how much room these have in the rear seats. Might be a weird question, how tall are you? I'm 5'10 and usually need the driver seat pushed further back.

    • @takethetruck
      @takethetruck  Рік тому

      I'm 5'11" - if I remember correctly when we had the stock seats I typically ran it all the way back, but the Scheel-mann seats added some leg room. Coming from a 3rd gen it'll be a good bit smaller, but it's plenty for our needs. 👍

    great video i have that same exact truck but a 2001 trd 2 wheel drive in the process of conversion to 4wd, what louvers are installed on the hood of your truck?

    • @takethetruck
      @takethetruck  Рік тому

      Thanks, peep the link in the description for a detailed overview of the build - there's a link to the ones we used in that post, they fit nicely with only minor cutting to the hood supports which was the goal. Best of luck on the build, they're great trucks for sure!

    I have a 2001 Tacoma Double cab 4WD. My ABS ECU is bad, and Toyota does not have it. I was wondering if you can tell me where can I buy one. Thanks in advance. Recently a Toyota salesman told me my 2001 Tacoma Double cab 4WD with 140K miles, RR differential, 1 owner worth about $24-$25K. I can't verify it. He said truck is becoming a collectable.

  • @anthonygiordano3991

    Is that the original black paint or has it been repainted? I’m thinking of buying this same truck in black with 160K miles but it’s been repainted because the original paint was fading and chipping. Not sure if it’s worth it if it’s been repainted.

      Up front cost is steep but it’s rated for 2500 discharge cycles at 80% where even a good standard SLA deep cycle is only 500 or so. So long term the cost starts to make more sense, certainly not for everyone though.
