The 49th Annual Tony Awards was held at the Minskoff Theatre on June 4, 1995 and broadcast by CBS. Hosts were Glenn Close, Gregory Hines, and Nathan Lane.
I Loved the Hines and Lane Duet! That was awesome! Thank you for posting these! I just discovered them in June and I have been watching these old Tony awards in Chronological order. I have been enjoying them very much.
I was in NYC that day! My class went to see broken glass by Arthur Miller. We had lunch at beefsteak Charlie's. I remember Rudy Giuliani was giving a sound bite to the news and we all ran up and shouted like hill Billy fools from the sticks.
the stage IMO is where the real great actors/performers are...live nightly shows....some of the greatest songs ever written....not endless takes.....rise and fall on your talent ...why..no streams of live shows yet.?..for a fee of course
I am talking about 1:04 - 4:20 it is a song by George Benson. It's the opening song from the flick All That Jazz from 1978 (the year is only guessing). Check it out.
Ok so the sophmore kids went to see Patrick Stewart in the tempest...during the q&a instead of asking Shakespeare stuff or acting ...you guessed it! Every single Trekkie popped up and barraged him with questions on next generation and stuff about the ship and the crew members🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
....shuld also be posted on youtube....or google it...some of it's on the MTV website. You MIGHT find more specific parts, like msical numbers if you refine/narrow your "google" search. GOOD LUCK. www.mtv.com/vma/1995

@@antonspivack1436 Nonsense. Rachel York was incredible and was totally robbed. She won other awards and received phenomenal reviews. The production was very handsome and every performance was outstanding. The new songs were awful but the ones from the movie made great production numbers. The Tonys had their tail between their legs and Ms. Andrews' declination changed the Tony rules. In that mediocre season, and I did see EVERY musical, it was far more enjoyable just to see Andrews.
Sunset with Glenn was one of the best nights I ever had in the theatre.
I saw this on TV the first time, I look at this now and I can't remember most of the show. So happy you post these shows.
I Loved the Hines and Lane Duet! That was awesome!
Thank you for posting these! I just discovered them in June and I have been watching these old Tony awards in Chronological order. I have been enjoying them very much.
The way Michele Lee sings “J. Pierrepont!” makes me so joyous. The music is just swelling. I could listen to that moment over and over.
Love it! Thanks for this; it's brilliant!
Gregory Hinds on the "If He Walked Into My Life" − Mame WOW, I would have loved to see that version lol
I miss Gregory Hines.
I was in NYC that day! My class went to see broken glass by Arthur Miller. We had lunch at beefsteak Charlie's. I remember Rudy Giuliani was giving a sound bite to the news and we all ran up and shouted like hill Billy fools from the sticks.
Lilias White is just the best
....saw Ms. White at Carnegie Hall @2002....last apearrance of the Carnegie Hall JAzz Band with Jon Faddis. She KILLED on BLUES IN THE NIGHT.
Matthew Broderick ❤
"It is an honor just to be NOMINAAAAAAAAATTTEEEEEEEEEED?!?!?!?!!?!"
I did not expect that...
Not really. It's better to win.
Funny because Nathan Lane would WIN his first Tony a year later for "Forum".
I bet Disney saw Glenn Close in "Sunset Blvd" and said "We Found Our Cruella!!
...1995 seemed to have been a SOLID year for musicals, incl. revivals, and the plays were "no slouch".
Except there were only two new musicals and three musical revivals, one of which closed in three weeks.
@@antonspivack1436 wow. I didn't do a 'head count"...but WOW. I think I was overlapping from previous years' productions. thanks.
Wow the old man it's so dance 🙏🙏🙏🌏🌎🌍📸🌎🌐🗺🤗nice
At 12:20 the announcer says Buskers is at San Francisco’s Orpheum Theater, but it was at the Golden Gate Theater.
the stage IMO is where the real great actors/performers are...live nightly shows....some of the greatest songs ever written....not endless takes.....rise and fall on your talent

Miss close gonna wear out her Fitbit with all them steps
Gotta love Nathan lane
The grammeis award congrats on the best thing of peoples in your life fight against one another in the word
Wow beatiful woman
Is the song in the first min 42nd street I'm just guessing
No, it is On Broadway from All That Jazz.
I am talking about 1:04 - 4:20 it is a song by George Benson. It's the opening song from the flick All That Jazz from 1978 (the year is only guessing). Check it out.
Just checked this Smokey Joe's Cafe is only a revue of standards, so yeah, we're both right.
Lieber and Stoller song
1992?
Ok so the sophmore kids went to see Patrick Stewart in the tempest...during the q&a instead of asking Shakespeare stuff or acting ...you guessed it! Every single Trekkie popped up and barraged him with questions on next generation and stuff about the ship and the crew members🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yo you think u could do this with the mtv awards
Like '95 mtv awards that be cool
....shuld also be posted on youtube....or google it...some of it's on the MTV website. You MIGHT find more specific parts, like msical numbers if you refine/narrow your "google" search. GOOD LUCK. www.mtv.com/vma/1995
Just so we can see such highlights as the yearly drunken axle rose and Courtney love do their antics
did the announcer accidentally say 1999?
The duet with Gregory Hines and La Lane was ruined by lanes focus pulling. Hines far superior talent.
Wow, Sunsets win was awkward 😮
well now I have to get my long comments out there before December
There's a Broadway in Winnipeg too bad they didn't show that
The Tony awards were only two hours at the time what made them start to go to three?
Meerkat Nathan, and calm down you'll get yours in 2001
Walter Cronkite did How to Succeed in Business? well that's new
18:03 now do the hula....kidding bird cage joke would have been too easy
that's because the Tony's didn't exist yet Red
what was up with Patrick Stewart's voice I mean it's not as bad as Jack Klugman's was the previous year
oh my god it's a very young Jude Law
well it's nice to hear something from Showboat that isn't Old Man River (take the hint Cabaret)
okay now I really wish Cousin Mel got a better number than "Grandma's gonna sue the pants off of Santa" in Grandma got run over by a reindeer
How To Succeed doesn't have the best luck in the revival department does it? next time it gets revived it's up against only one other show.....and it still loses
40:11 I can't believe he brought his dog as a date, but I guess it was a good luck charm
I've never seen Helen Mirren without grey hair before
it's a shame that Having Our Say didn't get the love it should have gotten even more depressing that Bessie Delany passed away three months after this ceremony
oh so Carol was playing Dolly in that tour (Dolly made a tour stop in Winnipeg in 1994 and Carol was in a commercial for it one day I'll upload it)
and then Ralph Fiennes did the movie version of Hamlet....with Glenn close
Man only two nominations in Best actress? kind of a weak year
How did Gregory Hines die?
He had cancer and kept quiet about it and his family only revealed it after he had died.

Nathan Lane should have played it straight.
It's such a shame that they didn't nominate victor/Victoria.
they were nominated the following year because the show didn't open in time for them to be nominated for these Tony's
+Danny Eyheralde +George Chlada and then the only nomination they received was for Best Actress- so Julie declined the nomination
@@cam11971 Julie said the show was "egregiously overlooked," but more likely Julie's performance was the only thing it had going for it.
well that's a shame considering that was the last thing Henry Mancini did
