    Wow! When he hit his stride, he was just so fluid. Barely looked like he was even trying that hard. Just gliding down the track. Man, gotta sympathize with Merritt. He ran sub-44 and his best ever time and had no shot at gold. Doesn’t look like much in terms of the time but that was a convincing win for Wariner. Wow

    What's up with all you calling him slow? If you ran track you'd know that 45-46 seconds on the 400 is pretty damn fast.

      When I was in college, a friend told me he played receiver in football in high school, but didn't get much playing time because he was slow. He told me he ran like a 4.6 or 4.7 in the 40. I ran track sprints and I knew those times are actually really fast for any athlete in High School. So I raced him and another guy after basketball intramurals and beat them both by 1/2 second. The best I could ever run was a 4.78 and I ran anchor on 400m and 800m relay. My point is, these people have no point of reference when they are talking shit.

    I can only think of 3 400M greats who are able to efficiently execute a proper 400M in both speed endurance and form. Jeremy Wariner, Michael Johnson and Wayde van Neikerk.
    This was poetry in motion. The way he was able to hold his form coming into the final 100M was remarkable. 43.45 on any given day is just really fast. This was special.

    Didn't like Warriners attitude back then. Of course he is as the best at the time and to compete at that level requires a certain amount of confidence. But one can be confident without being arogant. He'll never get back to these times, but he is much more humble these days, and currently running faster. So much so, he may even qualify for the Olympic team, and the 4x4 for sure.

    • @ranhill
      @ranhill 8 років тому

      *****
      Yeah, after the US Olympic Trials., it was sad to see him and Tyson Gay basically campaigning for the relays. Tyson got to got, but Warriner was passed over. I think he would have done better than a few who DID run.

      Woulda been a helluva mistake to NOT have Merritt on the relay team. Without him, JAM wins.

    • @ranhill
      @ranhill 8 років тому

      That's normally what the USA does, men and women for all relays. Normally 2 alternates will run in the heats for one of 2 reasons: 1) to rest the final runners. Or 2) To have a runner prove them-self in the heat. Felix was one such case. After being a mainstay on the 4x1, she had to prove she was the better choice over Prandini to run in the final, having not qualified for the 200.
