Also worth adding that since the recording Jed came 4th at the UK GM with his Carthaginians, so they can definitely hold their own in open competitions.
I have played against a couple Carthaginian factions, and held my own against them. Nice to hear some of the more dangerous things to watch out for...! Great analysis, Jed and Rodge!
I feel that with the combo of sling levy with Eagle Eye and the speed and relative durability of Carthaginian Elephants you have a real possibility to "zone out" enemy cav. Put the elephant(s) such that the cav will want to run somewhere else, but then have that somewhere else covered by some deadly range L shooting.
Great SAGA episode. Towards the end, Jed mentions that he enjoyed reading about Carthage. Would either of you care to share any recommendations for Carthaginian reading, fiction or nonfiction?
David Anthony Durham's Hannibal,Pride of Carthage is a fictionalised account of Hannibal's campaign in Italy. Not the best novel I've ever read but good enough and it certainly added a new dimension to my figures. We'll sacrifice the undisciplined Gauls to blunt their swords, then send in our Libyan veterans!
Hi William, sorry for the late reply - I have only just decided to check out this video. Couldn't bare watching myself! So I tend to dip in-and-out of information available online. For a deeper read I have "The War with Hannibal" written by Livy. He was around from 59 BC to 17 AD, SO 150 years of so after the 2nd Punic Wars. I also have a book called "Battles of the Greek and Roman Worlds" which gives a summary of battles from 667 to 31BC, many of which are vs. Carthage. These give a nice summary of events and if any catch your fancy you can read further. I am currently reading "The fall of Carthage" by Adrian Goldsworthy which covers all 3 Punic Wars, which I am really enjoying. I can also recommend the UA-cam channel HistoryMarche who have a Punic War series. I also enjoyed a podcast called Hannibal and the Punic Wars.
Glad to hear! Having a large model collection is probably handy against the Iberians. Depending on their composition, terrain, and scenario, you might want to swap out cav for foot sloggers to root 'em out of the woods.

That's what I heard! Held his own against some tough players and tough factions for sure!

Thanks for watching Mike!

That is a great point!
Great review :)

Hopefully Jed will chime in! I can't think of anything off the top of my head myself

@@snottlebocket Thanks for the tip - I'll check it out. Isn't that what undisciplined but eager Gauls are for? 😉

Thanks, I'm very new to play the Carthaginians, so this was very useful to me. Any tips for me when my opponent has Iberians...???

Would be nice to see your troops
I am trying to find a solid tournament war faction for all ages. What top 5 would you recommend?
😃
