. Flying in Alaska in the summertime is the best. I'm doing my seaplane training as a student pilot at Alaska Floats and Skis in Talkeetna, Alaska. It's been challenging and fun to do flight training again with my CFI and flight instructor Sarah.
Float planes just fly a lot different than regular aircraft. Well, the flying is very similar, but the takeoffs and landings on floats are different in many ways. I do think it's pretty great we can do flying on all sorts of different surfaces. Just too cool!
So far during my seaplane training and float rating we've done most of the basics like takeoff, landing, taxis of different kinds like plow taxi and step taxi, and now we're working on confined takeoffs and landings. Glassy water are some we've also been working on. I have my checkride in several days to get my float rating.
Flying a seaplane in Alaska has been great fun, and I can't wait to get my float rating in soon as a commercial float pilot.

I agree, it was relaxing and enjoyable for me too! It’s sad for me in a way because looking back learning to fly on floats is one bucket list item I won’t get to check off. But throttle on my good man.

Looks like a wonderful time and Sarah seems to be a really good instructor... she is calm, but misses nothing and critiques with suggestions for improvement in a really nice way.

My only gripe is that Sarah didn’t laugh hard enough at “CLEEAARRR!!”. That gets me every time 😂

Honestly, you had me at "Clear", but in all seriousness, very solid airmanship! Always coordinated and on the safe side of the power curve.

Absolutely fantastic! Chris, the quality of your production is top notch. Love the series. I hadn’t really though about getting a seaplane rating, but this might change my mind. You are going to cost me so much $$$ !!!

Funny seeing you play the moose game. We do the same with the kids...the prize for most “called” is desert for the day! Fun and keeps the kids focused and entertained.

Excellent CFI! Talking only when needed, and with well chosen words. This student should get his seaplane CFI someday, then I’ll come visit👍

Congrats on the sea plane rating 🎉🎊💪🏼.
I have a question about the pacer you were training in , does it have a standard wind on it ?
Or is it a long wing i’ve seen people using pacers in Alaska for sea plants, but when asked guys in Michigan about it, they said they don’t make good float planes because the short wing.
Any in put would be nice thank you

It seems to me that if a safe landing is assured why would you even worry about carb heat, fuel, and other items? I would land and trouble shoot when gravity was no longer an issue? I may be way off base but lets see what transpires..

You can see it on her face.
The prepubescent "clear" is funny in the company of people who would be hearing it for the first time. Not funny any repeated times. Video recording doesn't count as a person in company.
