- Building a super strong, heirloom quality, rustic farm house trestle style kitchen table with timber frame mortise and tenon joinery and proper breadboad ends. No screws or hardware were used in its construction and it was built with a combination of power tools and lots of hand tools and hand cut joinery.

In a world filled with resin river tables, I'm much more impressed with this. Beautiful work man. Absolutely beautiful.
Ahah!! Finally, someone else who agrees with me! Too much live edge and river epoxy!
It's crazy how much they charge for those soulless plastic tables
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
Incredible build! In a world of mass produced furniture it is refreshing to watch a true craftsman at work.
Thanks Rob, The crap they sell now is exactly why I build stuff like this.
Superb - generations of your family will sit at this table and talk about their great grandfather/uncle who was an excellent craftsman......well done!
unfortunately this was for another family :( I definitely didnt want to let it go haha. I will make one for my family someday though and I hope you are right and remember me. Its cool to think you can live on through your work
When I see these skills I know there is a future for our planet, such patience and complex task control is humbling. Beautiful and I would buy your furniture in a heartbeat. Thankyou.
That is real woodworking, it turned out great just like all your other videos.
Thanks Darren, I really appreciate the kind words! keeps me going!
Hey man, just wanted to say “Thank you” for these vids. I used your videos to build my wife a table and it really turned out great. She loves it, and I wouldn’t have known how without the instruction. God bless!
So glad I could help friend!
I like the idea of not using screws and using the draw bore technique. Your joinery looked perfect and the finished table is gorgeous. Love the beefy trestle design. Excellent work and a great video. Thanks for sharing.
I've been looking around a lot different woodwork, never seen so much dedication and perfection. DUDE you create masterpieces!
Wow.... This channel is my new addiction. Excellent work!
haha. good, im glad to hear! thanks for the support bud!
Extremely well done video and table design/execution.
WOW its super cool when someone like you (who ive learned so much from on UA-cam) finds and gives me a nice comment like that. Thanks so much! It means a lot to me!
Jointery
Usually not a fan of these farmhouse tables, but wow this is beautiful!
me neither! they are a dime a dozen too, but I thought I could make it special with the way I built it.
There is something so relaxing watching the use of hand tools making such a beautiful thing. Nice work.
Thank you. that is part of the reason I like using them too... relaxing!
Just badass!! Awesome job man, not sure why anyone would give this a thumbs down. Peice of art!!!
Thank you. Yea theres always people out there hatin on other peoples work haha
Pure Craftsmanship! You just took us to school my friend...Here’s to pray’n my wife doesn’t see this and expects me to build one!!! Thanks for the lesson Boss!
haha. thanks man! too funny. But at the same time she wont be able to complain about you being out in the shop :)
WOW awesome craftsmanship.
It takes extreme patience to take the time to build on it and to be so detail-oriented my hat goes off to you sir
Thanks Randall I appreciate that. Patience was key indeed.
Not sure who gives this guy a thumbs down. He just showed mad skills with hand and power tools. Love watching these videos, so much fun. I love wood working too. Not sure how he does this without cursing or throwing tools, editing I guess.
Almost entirely built using hand tools. That's old skool, I love it! Especially the hand drill for the mortises. Well done.
That’s some serious craftsmanship and will be around decades after a lot of the other stuff has been returned to the earth. Great job!
Thanks Man. I certainly hope so! Its cool to think that this thing I built will be around long after I die.
Looks fantastic! I really dig all the draw boring and pegs, gives it a great feel.
Thanks Caleb! Drawbored M&Ts are my absolute favorite!
Excellent work. Watching that angled tenon slide in was very satisfying!
hahaha, for sure! it was even more satsifying in person!
That's a beautiful table :) ॐ
Beautiful table! And you have a great filmmaker's mind. You know what we want to see and when we want you to explain stuff and when we want you to stop talking lol. Great job man!
Thank you. I'm really trying to get good at the whole filming and editing thing, it has been a major learning experience for sure!
Man, that thing is just gorgeous! I like the method for attaching the top. Very clever.
Thanks Bruce! I pretty happy with how that turned out haha
Growing up in Mexico....I learned how to do hand cut joins, shape tenons...drill using hand tools...assemble piece by piece....then deliver a loved piece of furniture free of metal...now, everything is made in fckn china.....awesome work man!!.....master no doubt!
It's like magic seeing that table come together! It's also amazing watch it done mainly with hand tools and no metal fixings. You are an artist as well as a carpenter!
Thanks for the kind words Glen, I totally agree that it can be magical.
Not an anti-power tool guy, but the hand tools use on this project is wonderful craftsmanship. Bravo.
Chris that Table is amazing!!! Dude i cant wait to see the detailed videos!!! Im going to have to steal some of your joinery for some projects the wife has for me
Thanks bud! do it! you find them very rewarding :) Ill keep an eye out for the pictures!
I had to watch this twice. Very satisfying.
Great project and execution Chris. Bravo!
Thank you sir. I really appreciate you stopping by and sending some love!
Beautifully made and almost entirely with hand tools. Excellent work!!!!! I do envy you working in a lovely dry climate. Its always raining in england and its hard to keep my tools rust free.
Thanks David, i appreciate that. That sucks you have all that rain, that would get frustrating for sure. Have you tried a crystillined wax like Renaissance Wax? Lee Valley also sells a tool protecting wax. It forms a nice protective layer on your tools to prevent rust. I use it on all my tools and ive noticed a big improvement. Its better than oiling them.
Just watched it for the second time. Truly inspiring.
haha yes! that is awesome thanks so much for watching
Ok, wow. That thing looks like you could park a truck on top of it. You should absolutely be proud of that. Well done sir.
Beautiful work, though I wish you hadn't stained the oak.
Insane amounts of hand work... gorgeous
Thanks Brian. Definitely a lot of work, but very enjoyable and rewarding :)
INCREDIBLE! Truly inspiring man!
Thanks Wesley, glad you checked it out bud. Hows the shop been treating you lately?
My shop time has been pretty minimal lately. I've had a lot on my plate. Trying to finish up school. I should be back at it soon!
WELL DONE!!!!!! BEAUTIFUL TABLE!!!!!!!!
Thanks Robin, glad you enjoyed!
Beautiful heirloom.
You are a true craftsman. Fantastic job and great video
Thanks Rob. I really appreciate the kind words man!
awesome work mate. can't wait to see the detailed version.
what wood is the table made of? Thank you
Oak
This is one of the coolest videos I have ever seen.
seus trabalhos são excelente
parabens pelo profissionalismo
Wow, impressive method to built this gorgeous table!
Thanks marcia!
Seriously, you’re young and have mad skills. What’s your background?
Thank you! Background as far as woodoworking? I started woodworking with my Grandpa in his shop when I was a young boy and would go do projects with him from time to time. When he passed 2 years ago I really dove into my own journey in woodworking and gravitated towards the handtool stuff
@@ThirdCoastCraftsman Awesome dude. I lost my grandpa in 2011. I wish I would have made it a point to build more things with him. He was a craftsman as well. I've not tackled anything like this but I've taken on several projects and always wish he was around for them. My most recent is a built-in lighted bookshelf, 9'x14', I certainly had some questions to ask him going through that! Your grandpa's legacy lives on in your work dude. Keep hammering!
Beautiful Table - Well Built - Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jim, My pleasure
That tables more structurally sound that half the roofs I've worked on! 😂
Speechless.
Enviable project.
Congratulations and very kind of you to share.
Greetings and peace and well-being for you and your family.
Thank you for the kind words lorenzo! The same to you sir!
What an amazing table, Chris! You did such an awesome job with it! I wish I had a tenth of your skill with hand tools!! I can't believe that there's no fasteners in that thing, that's so cool! I would have gone through about 8 boxes of deck screws to hold my version together! lol! So if you had to, can you pound out the pegs to remove the top? Or is that on there permanently? Truly a stunning piece, Chris... fantastic job!
Hey Drew! Man, thanks again for all the kind words, making a guy blush! Yes, you can very easily remove the dowels that hold the top to the base so that it easily comes off for moving. Im actually kind of proud of that little idea haha.
That table will last for ever. Amazing woodworking skills.
Thanks Ronnie. It should definitley last long if it getting taken care of
i tried to work along but i ended up with a pile of firewood, a divorce and even my dog hates me now.
What a beautiful piece of furniture. At least it was till you put that disgusting stain on it.
Still have it a thumbs up though.
daskraut 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 LMAO
So sorry about the dog.
BEST COMMENT YET! LOL I feel the same way. I wanted to build a table but I would have to sell my car to afford HALF the tools required to accomplish this build. And even if I had ALL his tools I'd still f it up
Joe gag you don’t need power tools, all you really need is a drill, some drill bits, a few chisels, a mallet, a good saw and a hand plane or 2
That was just about as good as a video on a table build can get. I understand how some may desire a longer version that is more in depth. This is more for entertainment, although you can get a general idea of the build.
Hey thanks bud, very much appreciate. Hopefully some folks get some good info out of the detailed versions too.
Really really well done! How many hours would you say you have in this build? I totally wanted you to keep that table natural. I think it would've looked flawless. I'm a sucker for natural Oak though. Great build either way!
Hey Will, Thanks brother, much appreciated. Id say there is about 60-80 hours in it. granted filming really slowed me down, but it was definitely a long one. All those M&Ts take time too. I agree with you on natural wood too, but this was for a customer who wanted it stained, that being said, I am really happy with how this stain looked. Oak is so easily ruined with stain, so im happy how this turned out.
I also would have preferred a natural oak finish, but it still looked great, and the design is absolutely fantastic. You are very talented at designing your projects, looking forward to the next one.
Love your joinery work. Really enjoy your videos
Thanks Richard.
Please tell me you didn’t just stain hardwood.
Great job! It’s good to see others that appreciate mortise and tenon craftsmanship.
Que tienes en contra de la maquinaria eléctrica?
Esta muy cara🤣
I have had some white oak timber drying in my garage for about two years now so it should be about right to start my Roubo workbench using that moisture stabilized wood. The joinery you used on that table will certainly pertain to my making the workbench. Well done, both the project and the video. I am SO appreciative that you didn't have music blaring between your voice overs.
you found your calling..... not all of us....will ever reach the level of precision you possess.....keep building!
Just finished mine based off your plans Chris. Being it was my first big woodworking project and first time trying joinery I think it went pretty well. None of my joints are as clean and crisp as yours but I learned alot. Mad respect for how you and other woodworkers on UA-cam who make stuff look so effortless.
I am not a woodworker, far from it. I do however enjoy your videos, especially how “hands on” you are. A true craftsman 👍🏻
You and only a few other DIY youtubers really understand how to work with wood. Thank you for this video.
haha thanks joe, I really appreciate that!
This video was the first one I've viewed from your channel, but I'm sold! I did subscribe and turned on the notifications because I think I can certainly learn a lot from you. Awesome build! It certainly puts my farmhouse tables I've built to shame!
Hey Brock thanks for the kind words and subscribing. Means a lot to me. Don't be ashamed of anything you build man, so many people are too afraid or lazy to even build anything! I bet they are great!
When I see the notification at work pop up that you have a new video, I now know how it feels when my wife gets excited about a new episode of “this is us” great videos man!!
bahahahahaha. thats too funny! Thanks man, I hope I can keep em coming
I love your old style wood working
That’s very nice! I’ve been putting a table build off for a while....you have inspired me to begin. Much thanks!
Awesome! good luck and please share some pictures of the build with me!
Absolutely gorgeous
Boy do I love watching good "joinery".... is that a word?
It definitey is a word! glad you liked watching it haha
UNREAL CRAFTSMANSHIP!!!!!! WOW!!!
Who on earth would be troll enough to thumbs down this video?... this is an amazing piece of work, you’ve inspired me to attempt more hand tools!!
Thanks so much Jeremy, I appreciate the kind words and support. There will ALWAYS be haters and negative people out there. You could have a video of someone saving a puppy from a burning building and still end up with dislikes haha.
A great project, to create a thing of beauty that will last many generations is very satisfying, the older and more worn it gets the lovelier it will look as the years go by. You're the man.
You have some serious skills to pay them bills!! Great quality to your videos !!
That sir...is a beautiful table!!
Thanks Ryan!
Just got the plans! Looks like a lot of fun.
You really upped your game with this build, brother. Very well done.
Thanks bud!
LOVIT, Awesome Job and the use of Drawing all the Joints Together Nice n Tight !
Well Done and Thx’s for Sharing
Boy am I glad I found this video. Such an amazing job.
Thanks Tom, im glad you found it too :)
Thanks for posting I know a lot of time and energy goes into these videos
I thought i saw a lot in the world of woodmaking but this really blows me away! No words for this project!! Really...
My jaw was on the floor the whole time....wow! Beautiful craftmanship man!
This is absolutely GORGEOUS.
That is probably the most bad ass table I've ever seen made. My hat is off to you sir, excellent job!
Holy crap man. You’re humble. Bringing fine wood working to people like me. I don’t like feeling as if I’m not good enough to watch something haha. Thanks for being normal and also making an insane product. This is awesome
Perfect!
That's the kind of a inspirational video i could watch every single day after waking up.
If only I could pump one of these videos out once a day we would both be in business! :)
If only i could do one thing from start to the end in my workshop... but i have something like a professional depression... i doubt in my skill and well... i dont do much :( but videos like yours are perfect motivation to do things more often.
Great job. Beautiful table. Bravo!
Thanks Flip, much appreciated!
I couldn't have clicked faster when I saw you uploaded a new video. As always I'm blown away by your skills! Fantastic job.
Thanks gage, that makes me feel good that people out there like watching my videos!
Third Coast Craftsman I love your videos.. Once I discovered your channel I went through all of the videos you have. I love the joinery you do and I'm learning alot from you! Love the educational videos.
haha thank you, Im sure you noticed how crappy some of the earlier ones are. I like to think I have come a long ways in my video editing and filming. It makes me happy that I am helping teach other people too. Thats the best part
how could you possibly dislike this video.. this is Art! Well done!
I like how you use the brace and bit to drill the holes. old-school definitely
Thanks for posting such an easy to understand video. Excellent job. I am excited for future videos as are all of the other "amateur" carpenters in the world.
Incredible craftsmanship. Something that will last a few lifetimes.
That way of fastening the top is something I haven't seen before. Impressive table, gotta say =)
I was looking at some george nakaskima tables and think he is doing something similar, but I cant be sure because there is no literature on it. im pretty happy with it and think it will do good
Truly inspiring craftsmanship. Well done, sir.
Thanks travis! appreciated man
I think you did an very nice job on this table. Excellent work on all the mortise and tenon joints and the draw boring. With all the work that it took to produce this table, I would have spent a few extra dollars on quartersawn white oak for the top. I think the medullary rays and straighter grain would have sent this over the top in its appearance. Again, awesome job, this is a really beautiful table.
Great video. Some really awesome hand tool action.
Thanks Carlos! I do love my hand tools!
I just found your channel from the interview you did with A Craftsmans Legacy. I’m just bummed it took me this long to find out about your channel. You mentioned in the interview that you’re an AF vet and you pursued your dream of woodworking fulltime (with the blessing of your boss aka wife). I’m active AF and envy your pursuit! Can’t wait to watch more of the videos you’ve posted!!
What a Work of Art! Beautiful
That’s some serious skill level dude. Top dollar table
I bought your plans a couple years ago, and I finally pulled the trigger on building it. I used a river top instead of a traditional farmhouse table top, but used the trestle true to the plans. Holy cow, this was the biggest project I've taken on by far to this point. There are a lot of fine tuned skills that I need to develop to get better at this, but the project was insanely fun, gratifying, and educational. Thank you so much for putting these videos and plans together, it made it much easier to plan my table out.
Nice work! I’m not there yet but this is the kind of skill I’m working towards. Great video
Thanks Matt, just keep it up and you'll be there in no time
The wife is wanting a table for our screened in back porch. I have watched a ton of videos and they all use kreg screws and deck screws holding everything together. They look like something you would get from a big box store. Been thinking how to do these same tables but with non of the boring fasteners. I am a beginner but love the details of this table and will use your methods. Will have to sacrifice and use cheaper pine, can’t afford oak but look forward to the challenge.
