"Im still amazed at the engineering that goes into Japans housing. Made to last many lifetimes."
You would think, but Japanese homes are only built to last 25 years. They aren't built nearly as well as this woodshed. When you buy a home in Japan, it isn't an investment like in the US. You expect the value of the home to fall to 0 in just 10-15 years. In Japan homes are to live in while in the US they are stores of value for the banks.

@@shanedevon6447 I live in a 150 year old Japanese house and I found one rotted floor joist. Pine on the ground will tend to do that after a century or so lol.
The main reason that there might not be many old houses around anymore (thats debatable btw) is because they either burned down at some point, or it became easier to tear them down and build a new home rather than modernize an old one.

I am 58 years old with 38 years of experience in carpentry from rough to cabinetry and furniture. You choose to make utility structures. I am impressed with your species choices matching special use requirements, and overall design purpose verse astatic balance. This is also a very good video showing "proper" attitude and skills in fastener applications.

I love the foundation and how the sill sits way above the ground like that! Especially to preserve the sill it’s just a smart move I doubt you’ll ever regret. And that joinery… it’s stunning and will last through the ages not to mention it’s beautiful and quality well built structure! We need more of this craftsmanship. Joinery is something I’m passionate about so it’s just fascinating to watch! This reminds me a bit of Man About Tools, you ought to check out his YT channel because you both are similar to build technique and style
