      The price on the mattress that I bought has gone up recently. It was expensive enough at $130 but now I think it's around $150. It's a little difficult for me to recommend at that price. Your suggestion might be a great solution. Buy a less expensive one and modify it. Keep the good ideas coming!

    Awesome van. Minor suggestion, you should put a plastic splash guard behind your sink so your seats don't soaked. Maybe put it on a hinge so it folds down onto your sink and becomes a cutting board. Maybe my idea is unrealistic but who knows, thought I'd share lol.

    It's a pleasant change to see a new vehicle modded into a campervan. Most of them are 10-20 years old. I like the rug! Hardly anyone carpets their vans.

    • @VantasticPacifica
      @VantasticPacifica  4 роки тому +1

      Sometimes I wish I had an older van so I can drill holes and make permanent mods. It would just be a lot easier to work with. And I'm not exited about my $800 monthly payments. I guess if I wait long enough, I'll get my wish. In the mean time, no shoes allowed on my carpet. I always leave them in the driver's foot well and climb between the seats.

As I listened to you I thought you sounded so much like my nephew who lives in Hobart. I watched all of your videos in one sitting and in one you state you're going from Portage to Portland. This is my favorite video because I am going to get a Van soon and I wanted a 30” bed I share with a huge 20 lb cat. I also love the chair. I am 70 and hate staying in motels. I have been more afraid in motels than in the forest. My grandkids are 10 hours, two days away and I miss them. I also almost died burst colon Anyway I have been recovering at home and realized my life is nothing but UA-cam and a recliner. Nope no more for me I want to go to Arizona again and can keep my apt which is very affordable for when I have to see the doctors. I had 10 doctors I decided two would work so not having anymore specialists. I LOVE YOUR BUILD it is what I have drawn out and it makes me happy that what was in my head will work. It is all coming together and my trip date is April 5th going to a local campground for trial run then off to NV to see my friend of 45 years, then to my son’s family in CA then up to OR coast and going to learn how to meander. Need to get my cat used to Van but I think she will like it once she realizes she won’t die lololo. Almost better from surgery and will be 71 at time of trip. I should have held out for a high top as at my age it is hard to get up off knees. But, it will work.

      Staying local for a trial run is an excellent idea. The van might never be completely done but you should get the basics figured out before going cross country.
      They slant the third row seat like that so it feels roomier than it is. But like you, I found that slanted seat to be beyond annoying. It's the main reason why I reconfigured my set up. It's still not perfect but like I said, a good van setup is never complete.

    I’ve been trying to decide between a cargo van conversion or a grand caravan/ Pacifica mini- van for weekend trips. You just convinced me! Mine would also be a daily driver and possible work vehicle so everything would have to be removable. What an fantastic conversion you’ve created! I’m gonna take a crack at those blinds. ;)

    • @VantasticPacifica
      @VantasticPacifica  4 роки тому +2

      Exactly! If you can only have one car and you don't plan to live in it, I think the minivan is your best bet. It's small enough to fit in any parking space, garage or car wash while still being roomy enough for a bed, a cooler and some other essentials. After a two-week Journey around the country, I can return my car to passenger mode in less than 15 minutes without the slightest hint it used to be a camper.
      That said, if I could have two cars... I would have a Jeep and a sprinter van. Or if I were to live in a van I would definitely want it to be a big one. Lol!
      One tip about the blinds... The plastic that most of them are made of does not hold up well in a hot car in direct sunlight. If you leave your car on a 90-degree day, you should take the blinds down and put them under the bed or something. Or maybe you can find some that are made of metal or something. I would love to see what you come up with. You can send me pictures on Instagram or better yet, make a UA-cam video.

    With regard to your cup holder issue with the tray-table assembly not working. I was thinking that a suction cup added to the bottom of the cup holder insert assembly, might be a good solution to keep the assemply from coming out. Also, attaching a stirdy flexible plastic piece to be positioned between the insert and the cup holder wall, extending down to the edge of the suction cup part, to use for easy prying under the suction cup, to aid in releasing the suction cup hold. Thoughts?

    • @VantasticPacifica
      @VantasticPacifica  4 роки тому

      Not a bad idea. I was thinking about building a Laguna table and attaching it to the bed. Maybe it can fold away under the bed somehow. But on my most recent trip to Louisiana, I found I didn't really need a table at all. Instead, I sat on the floor and used the bed as a table. so now I'm not sure which way to go. At least I have fun thinking about it and talking about it.

    I just love this version compared to #1. I am really trying to imagine my living in a minivan for 3-6+ months while I drive across country from NJ looking for a location to move to in my retirement. I am more like you liking cold weather rather than hot.
    I’ll need more storage so will have to use all the space under the bed. I have 3 wooden lockers that are bench size. I could use 2 against the other wall & store the kitchen stuff in 1 & misc stuff in other. The 3rd one could be at the base of my bed since I’m short unless I put the potty there. Depending on space, I might put them up on a base or legs so I could store some bins underneath. I probably would need to secure them somehow. I would have same plastic drawer unit behind the passenger seat to store electronic, office & small misc stuff. Thanks for giving me great ideas that I could do this in a minivan. Now, on to binging a few more of your videos. Cheers, Mo in NJ

      Oh yeah, I mentioned I prefer cold to heat. I skied for years & love winter sports & snow as long as I don’t have to shovel it. My sister wants me to move to FL near her but I hate the extremely hot summers there. I could live there as a snowbird but that’s when I want to travel to AZ & other western places. I’m thinking I need to buy a used 2017 Pacifica, use things I already have to build it as a no-build build like you have. I would still keep the seats stowed in until I know if I want to use it as a camper for the next few years or if I want to go the Class C RV route. Ok, let me think more on that for now. Hahaha.

    Very nice! The Pacifica is a very nice minivan and drive. Love the S Package and with what looks like a trailer hitch, if more camping room is needed all you need to do is get any of the light teardrop campers, or small travel trailers! Good luck have fun and stay safe and healthy! I’ve always toyed with the idea of a van, ever since I owned a Chevy Express I bought new in 2005, for a business endeavor that didn’t quite work. But the van was great to drive. But I have a very adventurous spirit and if I ever were to do a camper/van, mine would have to be 4x4, with a slight lift of an inch or two. For the prices of the new vans the new Chevy Express is a great deal! Heck you can even get a powerful economical diesel, as GM only makes them in 2500 now. But to start with a passenger 2500 Chevy Diesel, with 4x4 conversion a price range of around 45k is possible as a start, that half the price of the new Mercedes diesel 4x4! With a lot more capacity for load and towing!
