- Officials are turning their attention toward clearing the debris from the Baltimore bridge collapse after authorities paused search efforts for four people who are presumed dead. CBS News immigration and politics reporter Camilo Montoya-Galvez spoke with the brother of one of the victims.

That's interesting. I'm not sure how they would be responsible for the whole bill though as bridges are typically for vehicles and pedestrians, not boats, ships.
My ❤ goes out to Carlos and his family. I feel like the reporter couldn’t have asked him a dumber question. He could’ve asked him to talk about his brother, and what he meant to him. Asking him if he knew that it would be the last time that he saw his brother is just stupid.

Such a freak accident that couldn’t likely have been prevented. So sad. Rest in peace to the workers on the bridge.
I'm sorry for his loss, but American citizens have been fixing potholes, doing roadwork, and working in construction for generations, and it isn't more inherently dangerous than other manual labor. And...bridges rarely fall down. The death toll would have been significantly higher had the accident happened during daylight hours, but it would have been drivers, not road workers, who died.

You made this sound like there are just minorities and immigrants that built this country. That simply is not true. I do not care what minority you are you have the opportunity to educate yourself and choose a different lifestyle if you wish to do so and if not, you cannot expect to be paid if you have nothing to offer. I can say that my husband works with many who are immigrants who came here legally who work very hard for him and he said they are reliable decent people. I feel very bad that these workers were not warned somehow by the boat on loudspeaker to get off the bridge, to warn these workers to have given them a chance. This is tragic and more needs to be done for safety risk assessment and management. These families should be compensated, and the insurance companies of the vessel needs to step up to the plate for this incident. The reporter needs to be retrained. That question he posed to his brother was a slap in his face and highly disrespectful. The public does not want to hear RESPECT for victims families.
Ummm immigrants DID build this country. They immigrated from Europe and battles were fought as a result.......History may choose to call them "settlers" or "pilgrims" but they still.....migrated for a better life.

On Wednesday evening, Maryland State Police announced a red pickup truck was found among the underwater wreckage. Inside were two of the trapped victims: 35-year-old Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, from Mexico, and 26-year-old Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, from Guatemala. Four others were still missing and presumed dead.
Two of the victims were Mexican nationals, two were from Guatemala, one was from El Salvador and one was from Honduras. All were employed by Brawner Builders.

What an unprofessional broadcast. Horrible audio quality on the ground reporter, thoughtless and senseless question from the journalist to the brother of the deceased worker, and extremely biased political talking point that has literally nothing to do with this tragedy.

My thoughts exactly! I watched a report about this wreck the day it happened and someone mentioned a sheen on the water from a substance that came from a container that had ruptured. That doesn’t sound good! I hope nothing toxic is leaking out for everyone to breathe.

Gov Moore is really well spoken and doesn’t seem to be heartbroken over loss of the workers. He’s so tootin his horn about stopping traffic & doesn’t say why the workers were not warned. There is communication available to the bridge workers too. The Governor looks too peaceful and bragadocious a reads his statement. I stand with the workers and their families. The Singapore shipping company needs to pay for this collision not the “tax payer” maybe that phony 3 President fund raiser $$$$$$should be given to families of the “un-warned” workers.

Processing insurance takes time, and the expected total loss (bridge, ship, cargo, etc) is expected to be around $3 billion. Typically, the government (state and/or federal, who owns the bridge) pays for the repairs, and the insurance company pays the government.

We can't just leave the port closed for 5+ years, it'd destory the local economy.
The United States isn't a poor country. The federal government can afford emergency funding to rebuild in a more rapid timeline in order to keep a freaking city running, and then hash out what will be paid to whom by the shipping company and their insurance in court.
Or are you advocating for people to lose their jobs and livelihoods for years on end?
It's like if someone took a slegehammer to the pipes in your house. You pay for a plumber to come fix the damage right away so that your home will be livable, and then sue the perpetrator so that they have to cover the cost of repairs.
