- Even though these photos didn't come out how I wanted, I still wanted to publish this video for two reasons: it shows the sometimes harsh reality of shooting film and it also is so calming and peaceful and I want to share more of that with the world through my camera.

Please let this to be a series. Next time it'll be "A quiet autumn day with a film camera"
i don’t think the pacing of this video is getting enough credit and your cinematography of all the little details compliments the scenes you’re photographing even more! more videos like these please
Yes. _Yes._ *_YES._* Photography UA-cam needs more videos like this. We gotta throw out the playbook and just make some really special work. Love everything about this - just wish I would've watched it when I was choosing my last video for the night before going to bed...
you could always come back 🌙 💤
@@graincheck This…is true 📺😍🥱😴
this is how i wish photography youtube was. peaceful but crispy and beautiful
This was lovely! Very relaxing. So much work went into it, and it shows.
I always love how silent your videos are. It comes so much back into the feeling of being on your own and doing your photography, enjoying your craft. It's a breath of fresh air between all the noise here on YT. Thank you
music to my ears 🥹
Loved this video. Slow story unfolding, none of the irritating background music - and authentic life experience. Thank you
pls let this be a series so I have something to go back to when i'm feeling down (along with grainydays' long form travel vids)
I honestly love this video. Especially the fact that the photos didn’t come out the way you wanted them to. That’s EXACTLY what film photography is about!!
Love that shot of the cabin through the trees at 13:56. It really depicts a sort of cozy mystery in the forest. I've been struggling to get out and shoot lately, this video makes me want to go connect with nature again and make some art.
Photography & nature it doesn't get much more relaxing. Lovely stuff Taylor.
Listen, if this turns into a film camera adventures ASMR channel, I wouldn't be mad in the SLIGHTEST...🥹
👀
I love this series/type of video so much!! Your cinematography is beautiful, the serene and quiet sounds are so relaxing, the images you capture are always stunning even when there is an issue, it’s such an intimate experience and it makes me yearn to go out and shoot more film!! Thank you for the video Taylor 🫶🏼
Taylor I don’t think you realize how talented, gifted, and skilled you are in what you do. The composition of everything was so incredible!
this makes me wanna cry!!!!!!! thank you 🥲
Simply beautiful and relaxing. Gorgeous area. Great concept too. A true love of photography with no “brand fanboy” sale’s pitches. So happy I stumbled across your channel.
I’m laying on the couch. My wife is cuddling me. Golden hour light is leaking through the curtains and I stumble upon this video. It truly is the perfect time to watch it as summer is ending and here comes autumn.
I’ve been watching your videos since Moment and I love your growth. But especially in this video you can tell your good taste in films. You are watching and taking the right elements of great films. People like you are who I would love to be friends with.
I've been watching your videos recently (got my first film camera!) And they bring me such peace honestly. I'm unsure why you haven't uploaded recently but I hope you come back! Good art is rarely appreciated in it's time.
So brave of you to not use music - this was a treat. 😄
Taylor your cinematography in this video was absolutely beautiful. This video is such a vibe. Thank you for blessing us with this work.
everything about this video was so calming and pleasant to watch! the photos turned out great too!!
thank you 🥹
This channel is 100% the photography channel I needed!!! I’m so used to seeing the same type of person (y’all can probably picture it!) talking directly at the camera, turning it into a competition, and going on and on about the gear with no flavor whatsoever. The UA-cam photographer vibe is surprisingly uncreative! Lol. I feel so welcomed to this channel. Your voice and music selections are so soothing. Your shots are creative and you’re actually sharing what image making means to you. THANK YOU ❤❤❤
i liked the shot of cat relaxing on wood porch
Your photography is very dreamlike. Thanks for sharing, greetings.
I loved the opening shot. I railroaded both freight and passenger in the PNW all the while using F-3's and a Pentax 645, ( later F-4's and a 500 cm) documenting Railroaders in B/W along with my personal work. Thanks for your enjoyable videos, I'm new to your channel, please keep them coming.
I so miss my beloved Portland and the PNW.
alway a big enjoy to see you shooting like this. Love the silent way. Thank you alot🙂
so glad people are into it, because I looovvveeeee filming this way
The shot of the ice cream cone on the table told me everything I need to know about you as a photographer (and it's all good) :)
On the bright side, black and white still looks amazing underexposed. Major props for the amount of time you spent having to setup and shoot for the video whilst still taking great photos. That's very impressive multitasking and you do both equally well!
This was done so beautifully. I loved the ASMR vibes and overall have really been enjoying your videos this week (I just discovered your channel).
Towards the end I started to feel like I knew this place. Did you film a portion of this in Graeagle, CA? The mini golf, ice cream, bridge, and river really called it out for me… You did well not telling us exactly where you are so I’m not 100% sure but I did live there for a while and spent many summers there with my grandparents. How wild would it be if I was right? Lol
Edit: Just watched this with my hubby and yes, this is the place! We lived in Mohawk and the yellow house in your video is my mother-in-law’s childhood home. 😊 So fun and random to find this video. You captured and place and sounds perfectly.
I hope you do more of these videos, the process what its all about as you know...very relaxing!
You just may well be the culprit for me being interested in the Pentax 645. And subsequently purchasing one. I say in a good way of course! As big a camera as it is, there is something so very calming when I hold it. It slows me down to a nice tempo. Paired with film photography I like a lot❤
The sound of that shutter is very satisfying.
Life imitates Art imitates life and it all goes round and round and round
In the circle game. Someone wrote a song about that once. :) Bravo! -a random mike
Please make the sunny team follow you around and make a documentary-length version of this!!
I felt the warmth of this video. Just want I need for this winter season in New Zealand.
Your videography is so amazing, to the point where the Pentax stills are unnecessary ❤
Wow - just loved this! Please make this into a seasonal thing!
at some point I wondered : "is this photo great or just... ok ?" and I didn't know. Then I realised the photos were just good, but the videos, the coherence, all of this, it's beyond excellent. Loved it. Thank you !
yeah, this one’s definitely not just about the photos.
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Great video, enjoyed watching! 🎞
I need to get out there and shoot more. I no longer have my pentax I had in college back in 2001 when film was cheap but I have my new canon R and i've been slacking off.
Cool camera,cool work,you will like Pentax 645z too😊
I watched this while cleaning up a black and white roll from my Mamiya C220. Was quite zen.
More like this. PLEAZE.
Would like to be transported here. Lovely shots.
I’m a sucker for ambient sound ❤️
When it comes to shooting B&W film it’s almost always best to “expose for the shadows” and “develop for the highlights.” Half rating your film will go a long way to creating detail in the darker areas. Then develop for the highlights you need in the shot. That is best done by developing your own film. That is not hard and doesn’t even require a darkroom - just a changing bag, a daylight tank, and a few chems. High contrast days require less development, low contrast days more - generally speaking. 😊
Questions?
Nice n concisely put. It took me _too long_ to realise the above and do something about it. Cost saving are huge. You need some space but not a lot of time.
I just put my head set on , editing my images scanned today, listening to your video , relaxing Sunday night, thank you !
The GOAT is back!!! You single handily are the reason I'm diving in fully into my photography/but mainly my videography hobbies :) keep putting out this amazing content!
Great video. No music. No yak yak. Simple . Pretty girl taking photos. Love the ice cream cone.. Thank You.
Love your vids! Great seeing how you roam around finding the pictures. Hope you continue to make more!
Thank you 💕
a beautiful video. Please do more of it. Thank you very much
This video is the best. The underexposed shots actually create a nice mood.
You've perfected this style of video. No one does the wordless shooting video like you. I particularly love the edit where you look hard at the ice cream cone and then ... click!
😭😭😭 that’s really kind of you!
ah, I love the ice cream one too. glad someone else could appreciate🍦
@@graincheck Every photographer can appreciate those moments where an everyday object is evaluated in a new way. :) Was the video X-T4?
Wow just incredible. I directly felt the peace and leisure of that place. Freedom from worries and anxiety. Only you, the camera, thoughts and nature around.
Great content! Thank you!
Looks very Oregon like!
I love that, in a time when few people post videos, you remain
🥹🥹🥹
Watching this video is better then meditation
I’d have to agree
Aside from the amazing video and photos (as usual) I love the fact that even if the photos didn't come out as you intended you still made the video and showed us the results! And they were still wonderful!! You're definitely one of the best photographers around imo
please do more videos like this! this got me so inspired and relaxed. like really!!😵💫 one of my favorite UA-cam channels :)
DEAL!
Taylor there's so much to love about your work. So beautiful
Great video thanks for sharing even though the photos didn't come out how you like. Sometimes the best stories are when things don't work out.
Fun video. I love my Pentax 645 camera. I have tried many medium format cameras but the Pentax just works for me.
Lovely!
This is absolutely beautiful. I like how you almost got us in the flow with you.
ahh, so serene..
Sosososososo relaxing 🥰
I enjoy these types of videos so much more than the gear reviews and the "look at me" videos that seem to be everywhere these days. Hard to find a nice video of someone out shooting. Thanks.
I felt the same way - wanted to fill that space myself ⚡️
Definitely love these type of longer and silent videos, so good!
expect more :)
Chill Supreme
love how you've put this together, i'll be back for a rewatch when i need calm or some inspiration. looking forward to summer here (New Zealand) to get out for a day like this!
For what it's worth I think these came out great. I'm not in your head so there is no way to know your initial vision for this little project but for me I think they way they came back underexposed produces a feel that is more fitting to the location and stillness than they would have been were they pushed like initially planned. Chalk this up as a Bob Ross " Happy Accident " haha Gotta love film!
😭😭😭
Oooo that sprinkler rainbow!
Awesome mini doc of photography life! Love these looks, its just hard to convince myself to go handheld and leave the tripod all the time. I enjoy the time taken to find compositions that you really want to snap! I also love the short ads for subaru inbetween locations ❤.
Amazing, feels like a deep breath, so peaceful
We need more of this, simple yet relaxing. A camera and creative mind at work without all the nonsense gear this and film stock that. Just great photos and a great video.
quiet and beautiful documentary…. stunning photos!
This is amazing, and that ice cream shot is 👌🔥🍦
Go buy an ice cream cone and set it on the bench and leave it for 5 minutes and snap a photo and then you too can be artsy 🤷🏼
This is perfection. One of my favorite videos in a long time. I second the request for a series!
I loved this format. I’ve rewatched it many times!! Thanks!!❤
Omg this is like the perfect kind of content I love, I said it before, you are a great photographer and this videos are my favorite 😮💨 we need an autumn video 🤤
Yessssssssssss, finally a Graincheck video 😍 4:30, 9:03 and 10:46 a favorite pics
♥️♥️♥️
man thats a really nice place, can't help but wonder what color film would capture
next year :)
I've just watched your video and wow... i loved your job !
I subscribe ! 👌🏼
Welcome :) so glad you’re here!
The pool area is my jam.
Hi Taylor. I am a film photographer from Spain. I've been watching some of your videos during the last two days, and I like them a lot. I really apreciate that you don't talk too much about cameras or how sharp a lens is, but about express your feeling through photography. I have written my comments in this video because I understand photography, more or less, as you express on it: show the world as you see it. Did you know which was the problem with the film that you overexposed? I think that it could have been a problem on your film camera (we could discuss if you want to). I have been shooting B&W film during the last 25 years, and I am really happy to find that it is still being an option in photography, although I am still using an old enlarger to put my pictures on walls (jejejeje). Nikon, Mamiya, Hasselbald, Rolleiflex and Cambo are my brands in this moment, and I use all of them. It is fantastic!!
I am going to watch more of your videos.
(sorry if my english is too formal or has a lot of mistakes).
Please, please more of this!
Traveling and my flight canceled until tomorrow. Watching this while it’s storming outside made it just a bit better 🥹
Loved the video. The cinematography and just the natural sounds with the shutter clicks. Nice work. The photos were not bad. Definitely added to the video itself, even if they didn't turn out how you hoped.
just the reality of shooting film 🥺
Stunning and brilliant at the same time, love it
Really nice atmosphere :)
Marvelous! We need more like this. This isn't even a video, this could pass as a short film in my opinion.
this is good but chill on the glazing bro
What a beautiful video. Beautiful area. And beautiful photos
Loved this, your style is just amazing!! just wanna say you’re definitely one of my inspirations for starting photography
A soft landing from a long day, your video was so creative and enjoyable to experience Taylor 👌
This ia amazing! The photos as well as the video.. very chill and relaxing..
Amazing video edition! And a wonderful asmr/visual relaxing experience. Well done, go on and thank you!! 🙏
this makes me want to go to my closest mountain town so bad! thanks for the peaceful video!
Loved this so much. Had it going as background audio this morning as i worked. Keep this coming!!!
Super lovely video thanks so much Graincheck! ♥
ok this video was healing in every way possible!
The colours on the video are excellent. I wish the photos had been in colour as well. A couple looked good in bw, but based on the video colours, I think colour film would have worked better, even given the exposure issues. Worked better for me, anyway. Your aesthetic is your own. As with other commentators, the best part of the package is the lack of music or commentary, other than the background sounds of nature or tyres on tarmac. Glad I subscribed. Thanks for sharing.
I completely agree color would’ve been the choice here. August is the best month for it. But I am in month 9 of 12 months of only black and white film 😭
Thanks for the love ♥️
Fair enough. Maybe you should do a summary video in month 13 and let us see if you think it helped you in any way. It’s an interesting exercise, although I don’t think I’d have the discipline to stick to monochrome, however much I like it “in theory”.
