@@kevinbutton4580 Why? He probably joined because of nationalistic ideals, and probably wasn't a nazi but believed in the victory of his great nation.
Is that wrong? If so, think of it this way. If the Americans/Soviets lost WWII, should they be stripped of their medals for serving their nation?

Also, I dont think you understand the value of decorations. These people earned their right to wear such medals through hard work, injuries, and service to their homeland.

@@tansanbotilya1443 They don't even want to acknowledge WWII vets. So, they only treat them like garbage because they're all forced to believe every german in WWII that was in their military was complacent in what the Nazi Party had done when that simply isn't the truth, and not just for that group of people. Hell, I hate Stalin more than Hitler, why? He had more of his OWN people killed because of his fucking paranoia than Hitler had put to their deaths due to some ideological beliefs that have been around for centuries, in more than just Germany, hell those antisemitic beliefs were around for longer than germany has even been a country of people. Stalin starved and had his own people assassinated. That's just the topping on his fucked up cake that people refuse to think was worse in any way, shape, or form. I think it's worse because his own people, his own countrymen that he was the leader to, couldn't feel any sort of comfort at all during his reign of terror. But, he wasn't genocidal, so he's automatically disqualified from being compared to being as bad as or worse than Hitler was. At least Hitler gave us the honour of turning out to be a coward in most capacities and killed himself. But he was certain enough that being caught was worse than just dying on his own terms. That should say enough. Once news spread that he was dead, Germans everywhere basically gave up and stopped fighting because they got hope for a better future now that their crazy ass leader took care of himself.

Twenty years ago, my father, a German solder in WWII, lay dying
in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide, Australia.
An old member of the Australian Returned and Services League, the RSL,
was doing the rounds of the wards and visiting old service men and women.
He stopped at my fathers bed and asked him if he was a veteran.
My father replied, "yes, but not of the allies".
In a gentle voice the old man said, "I didn't ask which side you were on".
It was one of the most beautiful moments of my life.
My father died peacefully that afternoon.

Calling every German Soldier a “Nazi” is like calling every American soldier a Confederate.
After 9 long months of arguing, here’s to elaborate.
I’m making the comparison between the mentality. Young men having to fight and die for the older men. Aka young confederate soldiers dying for slave owners, when they might not even support slavery themselves.
Or the German soldier, who basically had 2 choices only. You went to the Army, or you died. This situation is hard to understand but trust me, it happened. Not everyone in the German Army was a rapist, a war criminal, or some Hitler lover. Just a young man, fathers, sons, husbands, boyfriends, brothers, they each had a family and it got taken from them because a radical government who plunged the country into war.

My OPA "grandfather" fought from 1938 till 1945 for Deutschland. He was an intel officer and his last battle was somewhere in Russia. He watched men literally freeze to death as they waited for the next wave of Russian soldiers to attack. Luckily he worked closely with his commanding General who saved his life. His general came to him one day near the end of the war and said "I am sending you back to Berlin. The war is over and we will be over run by the Russians soon. You are my friend and I don't want you to die. You have fought bravely since the beginning of the war and it is time for you to return to your family." My grandfather was exhausted from war and didn't protest. They saluted each other one last time and then shock hands. The last words he spoke to my grandfather was "I will miss you my dear friend". My grandfather left for Berlin and within a week his whole division was wiped out. Many years later he finally found one other soldier who survived from this division. Most were killed or captured never to be heard from again. My father was an American soldier who married my mother when he was stationed in Germany. In the early 80's my grandfather came here to the US to visit us. My father asked the VFW if it was ok for him to bring my grandfather there. They said excitedly "yes"! All the WW2 vets came that day to the VFW to meet him. They greeted him with great honors and talked for hours about battles they faced each other in. They had such respect for him and acted like old friends.

We also gotta keep in mind that the nice and fance uniforms were one of the reasons why so many germans volunteered. they wanted to look that good and be respected and looked up to as well. I guess you can kinda say the uniforms were also a big part of the propaganda back in the days.

There is a commonality for those that served and deep respect for each other. Great stories and experiences. Met a few German Fallschirmjaeger at Normany. Glad it was peacetime and not war. Proud German veterans. Stalingrad was something they will never forget.
It was estimated that from the three month period of February to April 1943, over four hundred thousand prisoners (German, Romanian, Hungarian, Italian) had died. The Russians simply let many of them starve to
death. Camps would receive food trucks every third day, and by that time the inmates were beating each other to death to eat. There were instances of cannibalism among the soldiers. It became so bad that anti-cannibal squads of captive officers were actually armed with crowbars to hunt them down.
