IDK if you know... You're a funny SOB. I laugh my ass off at these videos. Don't stop making this shit. Nobody else is doing what you're doing. Respect brother.
Every time I hear you use colorful language I relax. It comforts me with memories of my cuddly cooking grandpa! He was highly intelligent and had a sharp command of language - always finished those impossible crossword puzzles! And when he loosened up - 🌈 rainbows jumped from his curled lips! Oh, the beauty of true self expression! You warm my heart! 😄 You feel like home - I can go to sleep hearing you happily cuss. You're a great guy just like my big poppa - don't change a thing! 💕
This makes me feel nice. Saturday morning, I don't work today, breakfast is cooking, coffee and this video. If I limit my consciousness to these few things, the world will seem to be alright for a short time.
Thank you so much for making these videos. Gives someone like myself who otherwise isn't filled with this form of knowledge an opportunity to feel it. You're making the world better, at least in my corner of it.
jackson Hodge-Meli Awesome! We just got done taking down a bunch of conifers but it’s a way better than Taking down those sappy son of a bitches in the summer!!!🌲🌲🌲
Fuzzy Sundews and Pitcher plants and a whole lot of other rare plants and your great sense of humor what's not to love about this video, I know you go through great effort and expense for these videos Thank you, I would never be able to see these wonderful plants if it was not for you doing this
I love ALL of you, the swearing is sometimes the best part, nobody can put together a running insult, then validate it, blow it off and continue on like you, it is truly a gift
you are the epitome of funny, I never expected the new jersey accented trash talking doctorate in botany! the dissonance is epic. Totally original. So glad youtube suggested your channel. I'm looking forward to my trek to Peru and chile next year. have you covered that yet??? anyway... keep on truckin.
Dude, the Al Scorch bit made fuckin coffee blast out of my nose at 8:19 am. I want a still of al presenting a bike during a bike-related PSA forever memorialized in a full color tattoo over my heart.
Gosh that fern at the 5:49 mark is gorgeous! I am a gall nerd too! Love your vids. Please be careful out there...no help available should you need it. I have gotten heat stroke before. If you start feeling light headed, exhausted, and nauseous, you are in trouble! Water and salty snacks help in this weather but once you reach a certain point, it’s important to find shade, cold water immersion, air conditioning - or the ER. It worries me that you are way out there far from help and shade.
Loved that view from the top of the mountain! Reminds me of when we climbed Ship mountain in Northern California in August. EVERYTHING was in bloom at the time, maybe you can take a trip to that region too sometime. ;) And the Lichen, wow, seen some a bit like them in Michigan but much more of a flat mounding habit. And that Agathis, so weird, yet amazing. Think I may get a podocarp houseplant for next year's Plant Taxonomy. The phrase "tropical conifer" will blow a lot of minds. :)
I really like your humor and funny, flowery comments. Had to laugh hard when you talked of the oleacea and mentioned of species you might not know or never heard of ... I thought - NOT POSSIBLE
Oh my goodness. I recognise that voicemail voice from your early videos. You guys were so funny. I love you so much. I've been working my way through every one of your videos, for years, but lately I've been really hammering it and soon I'll be up to date. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Take ALL of my ad revenue, except for when I forget to turn off my blocker. I'll hit up a few videos twice when I'm done to make up for it 💖
I’m glad you are sharing the knowledge in the most beautiful entertainment of educational opportunities, I wish I can have a teacher like you when I get back to school for arboriculture. Your doing an awesome job for educating us, no worries from me. 🙏👍
I like how mangroves make a seed, the seed sprouts while it's still on the tree and then the tree drops seedlings. Then the little bastards float root downwards, drift onto a beach and make a new Mangrove... grove. Makes up for the habitat smelling like rotten dead cats.
I live in New Zealand and the first thing i thought when you showed the agathis is that it looked just like a Kauri but with slightly more broad leaves.
nice to know there are places on the planet full of exotic flora, at least exotic to most of us. beautiful place. i would be tempted to do a little fishing in that sweet stream. you would think with all the heavy metals endemic to the area there would not be much plant life?
What's up my crusty botanist friend Please whatever you do-do not stop making these videos I laugh extremely hard at these As always love the knowledge Nothing like learning And your videography is coming along awesomely well You do sound a tad extremely winded 50 lb of what water and food for such a desolate dry place If I was there I can definitely help you with that couple years back I had 75+ pounds backpacking items on my back for a bikepacking trip which consisted of over 115 mil. One way for 5 hours on the way home however The last 30 miles I blew out my right knee which left me in some quite a bit of pain had to call in for backup to get my dumbass home 😠 if I would have had less weight no big deal I would have made it all the way home That would have been 230 miles in less than 2 days
He’s got a portable meth lab and he’s going up top to cook up a batch where no one will suspect a thing. Fucking genius this guy. How do you think he pays for these trips?
Just ordered one of your crewnecks to Germany. It will take a month to arrive but I already know I will wear it on the next outdoor lecture (I am studying Biology) :D
I was out walking today too, but around the richie-rich hipster neighbourhood nearby to search for hand sanitizer. The whole area is recently built up on old waterfront/port property and of course they're trying for some kind of hipster brick warehouse look in a lot of the buildings but the whole neighbourhood is built for cars. Anyway, I got back home and thought to myself I need something soothing and nutritious to watch let's go watch Joey's latest video. And here you are dying on the side of some mountain. But at least there are cool plants. I like the cladonia repitora, they're very weird looking. Going to watch the rest of the video now and not think about stupid life bullshit.
IDK if you know... You're a funny SOB. I laugh my ass off at these videos. Don't stop making this shit. Nobody else is doing what you're doing. Respect brother.

This channel really is my place of solace. I still take one of his quotes to heart. "Plants take away the pain and misery of the human world"
Thank you for not dying 👍
It's almost like you stepped out of a space ship. It's so different, and alien. I love it. Thanks for another wonderful video!
Thank you so much for making these videos. Gives someone like myself who otherwise isn't filled with this form of knowledge an opportunity to feel it. You're making the world better, at least in my corner of it.

I’ll always remember the soft-serve. It will be hard, but I will do it.🙏👍
Om-f***ing GOD! That voice over had me in stitches!!!
I watch thinking this guy is the only person on Earth can tell what kind of attitude a plant is giving off.
Don't lose your edge, it's why we love you!
Ending in the mangroves was a nice touch.
Guess I can stay up an extra 30 minutes.

The lichen, orchids, juniper, and mangroves made my day, along with you surviving of course. Dat's why I moved from Miami to Wisconsin😉

Northern California is full of the same serpentine rock, which would explain it.
the voicemails fuggin killed me VAFFANCULO!!
Thanks for the video! Those Drosera look old with all the past season's leaves at the base.
The smartest one in the room can speak how he pleases. Listen and learn.
takeaway: harsh conditions and geographical isolation = speciation event that would make darwin jealous
Something to take me through to 9pm here in New Zealand. Perfect!
Gorgeous ancient looking plants.
An area of the world without very much garbage laying around.
Love the geometry on the podocarp!
Wow - what interesting flora! Great effort battling the conditions - enjoyed the descriptions. Well done 👍. Lol Al Scrotch!

I live in New Zealand and the first thing i thought when you showed the agathis is that it looked just like a Kauri but with slightly more broad leaves.
The shapes of those plants remind me of a Dr Seuss landscape!
Money shots, Oh yeah
Probably one of the better places to be at this time of pandemic crisis . A hot as fuck remote mountain top.

So glad you still call the fern Blechnum obtusatum the original name and not Oceaniopteris obtusata 😅
We need some of that juice
Who needs expensive overseas holidays when you can go there for us? Keep saving us dough!
