For those of you that don't know, this game is an offshoot of another game that's an offshoot of a board game. Lol I backed the board game and some expansions to it on kickstarter years ago. They added a digital format as a stretch goal, I think. Then at some point they decided they didn't want the digital version to be a digital version, but rather it's own spin on it. Then somehow they decided to split that into two games! The first concept being Tainted Grail: Conquest and this one that shares the full name of the board game. And since I backed the board game, I received both video games for free.
The style of these games basically encourages it because why would you barrel across a tundra to whack someone with a sword when you can stay right where you are and whack them with a projectile?
Remember in the 2000s how there were so many GTA copies? And WoW? Why didn't the same thing happen to Skyrim? I would have LOVED to have a plethora of similar games
It could be that a game like GTA is easier to copy than a Bethesda RPG? Any developer that wants to copy Skyrim needs to create something like the Creation Engine. Most games that come close to Skyrim took several years if not 5+ years. Think of Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn, Red Dead Redemption 2, Witcher 3. Very long development times. Obsidian has been working on Avowed for five years already, the new Dragon Age game has been in development for almost 10 years
@@EhurtAfy interestingly enough, there were only 3 years between Fallout 3 and Skyrim. That's such a short time to make such an amazing game. Never thought about it, but even Morrowind and Oblivion had more time between them; 4 years. Gaming really peaked at Skyrim.
I'd say there are a bunch of games that tried, tho personally I think the closest we've had so far is Kingdom Come Deliverence but it's without magic and honestly better.. then again it reminds me more of oblivion and I prefer that over the rim
This game looks like a bunch of Skyrim Modders got together to create a game. It doesn’t look bad, maybe a bit dated for some people, but overall decent. Combat could use some more animation; I do like charging the attack of the weapon, and glad that they added that. Cool armors and aesthetics, not sure what the overall culture is based off of, but I’m seeing Irish and Welsh themes. Combat is fluid. Good enemy variety. Looks real promising. I am hoping that they’ll remove the weird structures like the giant swords and out of place structures like the hand in the cave and focused on making those locations look livable since there are people residing within it. Hoping the character creator is in depth. But yeah, thanks for showing off this game, I’ll definitely purchase it to give it a try.
The giant hand could have some lore implication, I didn't write it off immediately. But the transition between the people and monster parts of the cave was lackluster, as if they just let these things wander over to hang out.
Honestly just the counters and the active dodge make the fights so much more dynamic and interesting than Skyrim. The weapons also have a good feel of weight. Even if the combat stays like this I wouldn't be disappointed.
Killing the final boss bear so easily was sad to see, otherwise, this looks like something that could easily eat up a few dozen hours. Thanks for the video!
I played on two different difficulties for the video. If you play on something harder, trust me, it's like elden ring difficulty sometimes. I literally couldnt get footage of me succeeding lmao
Thankfully the game is not finished, this is just chapter 1 of the story so it's definitely not the final boss. They said there's something like 5-6 chapters in the game and they only have chapter 1 finished. And each chapter is like 15+ hours long
I played this months back, and had gotten to the extent of what was available. Glad to see they have released more content, and I’m looking forward to playing again from the start. I started in a prison back then, not a beach.
Letting this one cook, i'm tired of playing early access titles with a fraction of the content available and a buggy mess. Looks like a really good RPG so i want to wait until its finished and 1.0 releases. Been on my radar for a while and it's on my wishlist.
The good thing about Skyrim and other Elder Scrolls games is that you start out in a world that is actually worth saving. This game's world looks like one that didn't get saved in time, evil won, and it's just suffering everywhere, ruins everywhere, no coherent bits of civilization, no safe havens outside crumbling castles, nothing, just evil and corruption and horrors roaming the land.
I initially had doubts, but now I can see the potential and I'm committed to following it until the final product is released. My only critique is about the graphics - I prefer a more stylized approach rather than realism. The game gave me vibes of an Unreal Engine preset. Despite the fact that even Skyrim can run on a Pentium, this game doesn't seem to be able to it.
As one of the biggest Skyrim fans, I bought this game and their other title Tainted Grail: Conquest in a matter of minutes upon watching this. Crazy I've never heard about it.
Man I'm going to go broke bying a new game everyday, I see a new video daily on my feed and so far every game looks amazing been buying all of them to try
"FREE new update" I always hear youtubers say that, on what planet are updates for games not free? Is there anyone who wouldn't assume an update is free? I can't think of a time when there was a paid update.
Redcaps are gnomes whose caps are soaked in blood in most folklore, that's what gives them their name.. pretty sure they're always evil, they're from the Scottish English boarders I think? Or Ireland...
This game is sick! And the devs are awesome for letting you start out with pretty much everything off the rip to keep the game enjoyable. Letting you experience a little bit of everything. I don't play on PC, but if this game comes to Xbox, this is literally all I'm playing what little time I have to game.
It sucks because I’ve always liked the lore of The Elder Scrolls and it’s humour mixed-in with the mythological aspects, so this just feels similar to if someone released a new cartoon and toy line called Weenage Dootant Finja Murtles. I hope Bethesda gets their shi together and takes TES back to at least a combination of Morrowind and Oblivion on a much grander scale, especially if they want to be able to compete with The Wayward Realms.
Having played the game a while back before the update I find it fun and good. The Tainted Grail series tends to do strategy games, with one playing a bit like Warhammer fantasy games with live battles, and another that is a turn based game where one plays with a team of characters with the main character as Mordred. I like how they have a morality system with a quadrant based system, one that has been used more over time, where one can either be virtuous or a tyrant, and either Christian or Pagan. Each one gives different abilities, buffs, and character to play with. The games I speak of being King Arthur - Fallen Champions, King Arthur II - The Role Playing Game, and the game King Arthur: Knights Tale. In my play through I can say for certain that there really is something to that mother shrine on the beach when one brings all the stuff back. And taking out the one peasant cowering is optional. Also, along that beach if one were to follow it to the end one meets some old guy chilling at the end that is an important character in different quests. One can get a horse in the first area as there is a vendor there in the open area to buy or steal horses from. In just that first area there are so many quests in the dark lore of Camelot ranging from killing a Pagan God, letting a bunch of Pagan Gods out, meeting an ancient sea God, meeting a necromancer and either letting him live or perish, hanging out with Pictish warriors, killing a deranged Knight of the Round Table, and so on. There is even a ghost that doesn't know he is a ghost. Chill guy really. As a last note, when I saw the start I immediately thought of a Wiljum video and anticipated him saying 'Hello to this new wipe of Rust'.
Those King Arthur games you mentioned are not part of the same series, nor are they made by, or for, the same people. King Arthur is made by Neocore Games, published by Paradox. The 2 Tainted Grail games are made by Questline and published by Awaken Realms, who are the original creators of Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon and its expansions, which is the board game this is based on. But you do make me curious about those King Arthur games, though. Also the other Tainted Grail game is more strategy based, though. It's supposed to be a bit more closely tied to the mechanics of the board game, but I know they had decided to make it its own thing rather than just a digital format of the game.
Haven’t watched in years man but always use to watch you and I remember you always posted survival games and I wasn’t disappointed once again hope you’re doing well keep the grind going
You know what the best part for me of this game is? i got it for free because i played and bought the turnbased/Card fight Tainted grail game and got this one for free because of that!
They probably have similar inspirations. The Witcher takes from fairy tales and I want to say European folk tales since the books were written by a polish man. And this is based specifically on the King Arthur mythos and takes place after the disbanding of the round table. Which of course is also European.
I'm guessing you played this on stream or something. I wish I could see a full play through on UA-cam, no cuts or anything. It's very enjoyable to watch

i agree elder scrolls bonked the nail on the head when they made the lock picking system but i am torn in a way the tumbler system from oblivion was kinda cool tho but the version in her an skyrim just feels better
Honestly looks and feels better than skyrim in voice acting, animations and combat. Now if it will have a nice open world to explore, I'd want nothing more
Yup. The open world should only be as big as you can fill it with proper content. Spare a few special cases of empty space for changing up the density pattern and for places like deserts where it makes a bit more thematical sense. Not to be abused though.
I remember playing this months ago before the new area; and I played it all the way through and hadn't even realized until I did a thing and it abruptly ended(to avoid spoilers). And I was like. D$mn. It was so sudden. I'm glad there's more content now!
I think this is the kind of game I'll happily watch others struggle through as opposed to playing it myself. Lol. Ty for the video. I'd love to see more. You're funny :)
Looks like a fun game but if it doesn't have super simple and purpose built modding tools it will never truly compete with Skyrim and will never have the longevity of Skyrim lots of games have tried to be Skyrim or Oblivion or even Morrowind but if you don't have good modding tools your game will not last. The elder scrolls are only as long lived because of their modding communities adding new interesting content and making it look and feel like a new game. Despite its age. I'm in the process of playing through Oblivion a game from 2006 that still gets new mods and with some patience and effort can be modded to look remarkably good and play like a much more modern game!
The play style kind of reminds me of the Witcher play style too. The drop down radial menu and the campfire level up. Although Elden ring too. SO this game has all of my fav games all in one. Where has it been all my life!!!! I'M SOLD!
Game looks fun. I was excited for the summoning magic until the moment I saw that it sapped all your mana in 3 seconds... Maybe there will be an option to summon magical arrows... Seems like the combat rewards specific tactics, even if that tactic in the early game is 'stab it in the head'. I'd probably try some mix of stealth archery and spells for combat. I think my wallet is going to get a bit lighter in the near future.
does the game still have bad performance issues? last time i played my pc would overheat and the game would lag in certain areas, i got a high end pc so i should be able to run it no problem
I have bought this game quite some time ago, so I am delighted to hear of the update. There are way to few Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim-likes on the market. With Bethesda as disappointing as they are I have no hopes for TES6 if and when it releases in another 4 - 6 years. I will always go for any game that at least competently tries.
The gameplay is closer to Skyrim (and heavily improved ofc) but the feel is closer to Morrowind, tbf. Everything is so weird and hostile, and I love it.

Skyrim modders have gone so far that that made an entire new game
They already did, its called Enderal...
@@RidoDrago oo, didn’t hear about that one. I’ll check it out.
@@psychonotice9480 i'm sorry if i've taken yet another 100hrs of Skyrim'y of your life :-) have fun!
@@psychonotice9480one of the best game ever.
Well, I would hope any update or additional content in early access would be free since that's just... normal game development...
This game _looks_ fantastic!
What story have? It is nice? Skyrim have one of most wonderful story, complex lore, etc.
My wishlist is filling up so quickly
2 minutes in straight to stealth bow. Exactly like Skyrim! Haha jk. Love the video!
I'm gonna send this to my mate he'd love this
🙏
I would like a three person camera.
Tried the demo any really liked it.
If this was coop I would definitely buy it. Looks great tho
THIS IS NOT A INDIE DEV.
they already have several VERY GOOD GAMES !!!
FROSTPUNK (that is 90% disc now) is a KNOWN GAME
This reminds me of oblivion a bit.. so many people love skyrim but oblivion was way better imo
The gameplay is closer to Skyrim (and heavily improved ofc) but the feel is closer to Morrowind, tbf. Everything is so weird and hostile, and I love it.
yeah booiiiii this looks dope. i always love me an almost skyrim
Yeah this game looks good please show more if you can and thank you

Gonna need a "don't mind if I do" counter for your vids lol
looks amazing, but it does need balancing in terms of difficulty
Looking forward to the console release
Looks good. Elder Scrolls 6 is taking a long time so it's the perfect time to release this clone.
Wayward realms will be released before tes6. The dev team is ex Bethesda employees that worked on Daggerfall Morrowind and Oblivion.
@@slashrocks19801 Yes and they released a new video recently on their channel covering more questions since I wrote that post. I have faith in these guys to make a great grand RPG. In the meantime I have Daggerfall Unity to get me by.
Yeah first person melee combat is a no-go. The lack of peripheral vision feels like playing with a horse blinders on all the time.
