  • An effective client consultation is arguably one of the most important parts of a hairstylist's business. These are the five topics I address with every one of my new hair extension clients.
    1. The current length of their hair and density
    2. Has their hair been previously colored? Is it damaged?
    3. The maintenance of their desired hair extension length and color
    4. The price of their desired hair extension length and color
    5. How did they find my business?
I guarantee that successfully discussing these five topics will turn your new client consultation into a booked hair extension service. If you deliver on your consultation service plan this client will undoubtedly become a long-term client; guaranteed to produce dependable income for years to come.

So I have not yet worked on a client yet I’m nervous because I want consultation to be done right! This was helpful but would love to see an actual consultation on a client or pretend client.
We have a consultation form that we pull out during the consulate unlike yours where they do on there own first.
How do you decide the right amount of hair that is needed for client?
Is one row possible on someone if you were to only build length or is it more realistic to need two rows with extensions?

@@staciejaniga1 When deciding on how many wefts to place on a client's row, I look at the client's natural density. If a client has very thin density their scalp (and hair) can not hold the weight as the same amount of wefts as someone who has naturally thicker density.
When deciding on how many rows to install my rule of thumb is one row is mainly for fullness for the client's current natural hair length. Two rows can help give a client a complete transformation with thicker and longer hair. IF you have yet to do any extensions on a client, I would highly recommend that you do at least 3-5 models first at a discounted rate. That way you can get your practice in a on real person instead of a doll head. And I would require that the client must come back in every week/or two for you to check in on tension, placement, blend and grow out of what you installed. I would also recommend that you get ALL feedback possible from these clients to help you critique your technique and better your craft.
I will take note and add a real consultation to my videos! Thanks for the suggestion. If you have any other questions or video requests, let me know.
      Thanks for watching,
      Samantha

I'm glad you enjoyed this one! I typically only purchase from two extension brands, covet & mane and hair compounds. The type of extensions are hand-tied wefts in 18" and 22". Hope this helps!

Was this done with hand tied wefts? And how many wefts were stacked on each row and how many grams of the extensions

Hey Brooklyn! She is wearing 2.5 rows of hand-tied weft extensions in 18" length. 4 wefts on the bottom row, 5 wefts on the top and one weft for her mini row. One 18" weft has about 16 grams of hair. Let me know if you have any other questions! Thanks for watching!
