What people seem to not really notice about others, like Debbie Reynolds, is that she was a good natured person. This goodness shined, beyond being talented and very pretty.
Debbie & Eddie were married. Eddie's TV show was called Coke Time, sponsored by Coke Cola. You did a lovely job putting these clips together. Thank you, so much! Debbie Reynolds 🌹 Carrie Fisher 🌹
She was a giant. Even the circumstances of her death, of a broken heart at the loss of her daughter, garner respect and admiration for this tremendous woman.
This is a lovely tribute to a lovely lady and this is how we should try to remember Debbie, as a glamorous, witty, talented lady. RIP Debbie. You'll be much missed
As soon as Carrie went I just knew Debbie was not long for this world. May they both R.I.P. and all the best to son and brother Todd who had to deal with the loss of both a sister and mother within a day of each other.
"Coke Time," starring Eddie Fisher, was a 15-minute musical variety show that ran on NBC from April 29, 1953 to February 22, 1957. Regulars included Jaye P. Morgan, Don Ameche, and Fred Robbins. The orchestra was conducted by Alex Stordahl and Carl Hoff. Some have stated that the show was cancelled after Eddie abandoned Debbie. That is not true. NBC (and the primary sponsor, Coca Cola) cancelled the show a full year before Elizabeth Taylor's husband, Mike Todd, was killed in an aircraft accident (March 1958). It was only after Todd's death that Eddie made his ill-advised decision to console the aggrieved widow. The nation turned on Fisher with a fury. I remember this very well. My sincere thanks for this upload. Efforts like yours make You Tube a most enjoyable resource. Well done!
My first thought, upon hearing of Debbie Reynolds' unbelievably tragic passing, was of all of her incredibly charming and delightful appearances on "What's My Line?". As Pat Gawne had said, your work really is amazing, and I thank you so, so much for posting all of these wonderful videos, as well. ♥ (I'm certain that everyone involved in the series would be quite pleased to know that so many people, to this day, were still enjoying their wit, talent, class and humor, too. :-) )
The alert of youtube for your new video brought also the news of Debbie Reynolds passing to my attention. Is'nt this sad, so short after her daughter is gone? Thanks Gary for this great way to remember Debbie, she was a fine actress and always a very funny mustery guest.
Thank you for posting this well deserved tribute to Debbie. I am old enough to have been a fan of both of these BEAUTIFUL TALENTED women!, It's no wonder People loved Carrie, look at her wonderful mother! Sadly their gone now and it was so tragic to lose both so close together!! RIP
Thank you, this confirms any doubt that Debbie Reynolds was an outstanding comedian with many gifts for GREAT LAUGHS! Actually Eddie Fisher HATED her sense of humor at parties and sadly was jealous of her natural talent.
Thanks for putting this wonderful montage together, Gary. I'm just sorry that we're seeing a memorial much sooner than any of us would have liked. What a completely craptacular year this has been... G.
I fell in love with Debbie watching WML on the Game Show channel. I thought she was so incredibly gorgeous, especially with her bubbly and funny personality.
Great compliation, and a worthy tribute! Notice that when Dorothy (as MG) realizes that Debbie is closing in on her identity, she switches to the Gabor-like accent that Debbie used so frequently. Clever twist on DK's part.
Thank you!! You are right about celebrating the joy of these multitalented people. The WML clips have been among my favorites for several years because I discovered how intelligent and creative the mystery guests often were. Debbie is simply the best! I have watched her repeatedly because she makes me laugh out loud; I marvel at her versatility as an actress and comedienne. I share them with friends and family so that they will also experience the laughter and the talents of this extraordinary woman. Thank you for the compilation & for showing Bennett's comment at the end.Rest in peace Debbi and Carrie...
Thanks so much for the comment, Douglas. I know it helped me feel a bit better to rewatch and edit the clips for this video. The news was just such a double shock. Since the news broke, according to UA-cam's viewership reports, something like 50,000 people have watched the various WML videos with Debbie Reynolds, which is staggering by usual viewership standards. I hope it's not pompous for me to say that it makes me very happy and more than a little proud to know that these videos provide comfort and joy to people, most especially at times of loss like this-- and we all know this isn't going to be the last time, too.
+What's My Line? And this tribute video already has over 16,000 views since you posted it -- less than a week ago! (as of early morning on Jan. 4, 2017)
Thanx Gary. This video is fantastic. You know, it's one thing to be funny with a script. It is another thing to be this spontaneously comic. Both she and her daughter were great talents.
I want to personally thank you for putting all of these shows on U tube to B enjoyed by myself and everyone else who has written there thanks to U here.✝️⚾🙃
When I heard the news yesterday one of the first things I thought of was these WML appearances, and in point of fact I shared two of them with a very close friend who, like me, is a long-time DR fan. I saw her show in Las Vegas back in the mid-'80's. She would've done anything to please her audience. I might have guessed that you would put together this collection. Thank you so much for this!
My mom loved Debbie Fisher… I watched so many things with her side-by-side with my mom who died November 24, 2022… Resting peace to all of them hopefully they’re meeting❤ thank you for posting this
I was born in the 50's so I grew up with Debbie Reynolds, always liked her movies. The first one I actually saw in the theater was How The West Was Won, I admired her spirit and tenacity as Lily Prescott. That movie was a really big deal then because it was shot in wide-screen Cinerama with three monstrous cameras. And it was a long movie, that meant lots of popcorn and even a candy bar after the intermission. And I was in my 20's when Star Wars came out, I was a big fan of her daughter Carrie Fisher as well. I will always admire them both.
Allow me to add my thanks for this, Gary. One of my first thoughts upon hearing the news was that I would seek out her WML appearances. I remembered them being delightful. I'm too young to have had a crush on Debbie (Carrie's metal bikini was more my era), but every time I see these shows, I'm reminded that she was not only the cutest thing ever, but sweet and sharp too.
1953 “Coke Time,” starring popular singer Eddie Fisher, debuts on both radio and television. Fisher’s program is so popular that the Company issues promotional records with his songs. The program airs until 1957
Thank you for these clips. Debbie's WML appearances are not my favorites, but I will love her forever for "Singin' In The Rain," "Hit The Deck!" (I became a fan when I saw this in the spring of 1955, when it first came out, I think) and for buying up Hollywood artifacts and saving them from destruction. And I loved the multi-talented Carrie for "Wishful Drinking." I was gutted over Alan Rickman's death on January 14 and now this!
Ah-- thank you! I vaguely recall this now that you remind me, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out last night what Bennett's reference to Coca Cola was about.
Yes, Eddie's show was sponsored by Coke. When Eddie and Debbie were on Person to Person, they showed their garage which was full of cases of Coke. I was so jealous!
Linda Blair Ah, even better. So I bet, then, that this episode of "Person to Person" aired not long before this episode. According to the imdb, there was a "Person to Person" with Debbie and Eddie on Feb 10, 1956, which fits perfectly, and makes perfect sense of Bennett's comment. I knew you folks would be able to explain it. Thanks!
The second clip (Aug 29, 1954) just amazes me every time I watch it. Few may realize how tricky her act was, and she performed it flawlessly. Awesome talent.
I'm DYING at 3:50!! 😆 😆 Maybe it's my generation (born 1987) but when I hear Debbie Reynolds, I immediately think Charlotte's Web. I first heard that book read to me by my second grade teacher, and watched the movie afterwards. Been in love with it ever since!
Lauren I had no idea; I haven't watched "Charlotte's Web" in years, but my memory of the voice of Charlotte is that it certainly wasn't a straight, unaltered Debbie Reynolds voice, but real voice acting. Just one more reason to love her.
The amazing thing about Debbie was that she was signed at 16 with no experience or training and soon she dancing with Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, Bobby Van etc.
An elderly friend was at the Burbank Chamber of Commerce when a 17 year old Debbie Reynolds came in to fill out the application for the Miss Burbank contest!
For true Debbie Reynolds fans... HBO will be airing a beautiful behind the scenes type documentary , "Bright Lights: Starring Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher" on Jan 7th 2017.
Eddie Fisher was, for a time, the host of "Coke Time" on radio and television. It was usually a 15 minute program but sometimes 1/2 hour. It was mostly songs.
Congratulations-- you're officially the 100th person to answer this question! Which entitles you to. . . well, nothing. ;) What was I **thinking** asking a question in non-removable onscreen text? I really ought to know better by now.
WATCHING ALL THESE OLD CLIPS...DEBBIE IS GONE....ONE THAT NEEDS TO BE MENTIONED IS LOVELY JANE POWELL...HOW ABOUT A TRIBUTE TO HER WHILE SHE IS STILL ALIVE...VERY UNDERATED TALENT...
New clips video, in tribute to Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher. If you'd like to see all five of Debbie's complete WML episodes, I've set up a playlist here: ua-cam.com/play/PLqsaqh5sqUxrnFS38ZE6neRtnTQrF6iBL.html
At old age, the stress of losing a child/spouse can give your a hemorrhagic stroke/massive heart attack. A man told me that after this father died from sudden illness at 72, her mother got sick suddenly and died 2 months later from a hemorrhagic stroke at age of 70 in 2010. She died at 84 from a hemorrhagic stroke, just 1 day after her daughter Carrie Fisher.
I have watched a lot of these episodes and remember the show from when I was a kid. John Daly had a great gig in that show. He was so classy and articulate with every guest whether or not they were famous or ordinary people. Certainly not the sexiest guy but his personality was very attractive and charming.
We all were! I can honestly say that I've never laughed so hard, consistently, with any other WML Mystery Guest. And I'm blessed to have been alive for most of her career (I'm not old enough to remember the "Eddie Fisher Era", and it's probably just as well.) We miss you, Debbie!
There was indeed a TV series called "COKE TIME WITH EDDIE FISHER" that aired from 1953 to 1957. It was a 15 minute music variety show on NBC. Back in those days there were 15 minute shows to round out 15 minute news shows at that time.
"Like Morton Downey, the Irish tenor who had just retired from his professional career to devote the rest of his life to Coca-Cola, Fisher and his new wife, Debbie Reynolds, attended Company conventions as part of the Coca-Cola family. In 1955, they spent their honeymoon at an Atlanta bottlers' convention, where fresh-faced Debbie Reynolds, holding her new husband's hand, stepped to the microphone an announced, "I don't drink Coke, it's bad for your teeth. I drink milk". And she smiled beatifically. After a moment of stunned silence, the bottlers burst into laughter. They thought Reynolds was just being funny. It was inconceivable to them that anyone would make such a statement in such a place. (She was serious, and she didn't like Fisher's amphetamine addiction either. They divorced a few years later, after Fisher's Coke contract ran out and in the wake of his affair with Elizabeth Taylor)." That's from a book called "For God, Country, and Coca-Cola". This surely is the incident to which Bennett is referring, as I'm sure it would have made the papers. Imagine honeymooning at a bottlers' convention!
Very interesting-- Linda Blair, in another comment here, also had an interesting theory that Bennett's comment was in response to a "Person to Person" episode they were on, which, as it turns out, aired just a couple of months before this show. Both sound reasonable to me, but regardless, your comment offers an interesting story on its own merits that I hadn't heard before. Thanks for sharing it.
Yes, I hadn't seen Linda's comment prior to making my own. It was probably the cumulative effect of these various bits of Coke-related publicity that led to Bennett making his comment.
@@WhatsMyLine Tangentially, as an aside, Carrie Fisher always drank Coca-cola. In a UK interview on you tube, she is given a blind taste test of a new cola to compare to classic Coke, even joshing proclaiming to be an afficiando/a. This personal quirk, I now wonder if not a subtext in psychological family brand loyalty.
Eddie Fisher was not only a Coke spokesperson, he was so connected with the brand that they gave him a percentage of the profits from the Pasadena bottling plant, I believe until his death.
I remember seeing her in a movie called Susan slept here with dip out in the 50s not she was really really cute in her career was really taking off I enjoyed all her movies
Janice Murphy ....I loved that movie too. wasn't that the one where she plays a delinquent? Then marries the man who took her in? She was such a DELIGHT!!
Eddie's TV sponsor. He still drank Coke, but the small can's. (He lived in our building. We talked Boxing, singers from the 40's & 50's, Movies & men's fashion, he also had a great sense of humor.) I just happen to be drinking coke as I'm posting this (The small can.)

Fun to see Debbie Reynolds on the same panel next to Anthony Perkins. Too bad they never made a film together.
They were the same age too. It's funny they never made anything together.

Also, Eddie Fisher had a variety television series, "Coke Time with Eddie Fisher" on NBC (1953-1957). Source: Wikipedia
She is adorable!
respect
Coke Time with Eddie Fisher ran from 1953-57 on NBC. It was a 15-minute fill-in variety show.
Eddie Fisher was not only a Coke spokesperson, he was so connected with the brand that they gave him a percentage of the profits from the Pasadena bottling plant, I believe until his death.
Well Done!
Can someone enlighten me as to the shovel reference (7:00) . Does it have something to do with the guest?
I believe the COKE reference was to a commercial for Coca-Cola made with Debbie Reynolds.
RIP
Debbie was so fun and beautiful. She is older than my mother but if timelines had been different, hubba hubba
Rip Gary
I remember seeing her in a movie called Susan slept here with dip out in the 50s not she was really really cute in her career was really taking off I enjoyed all her movies
Janice Murphy ....I loved that movie too. wasn't that the one where she plays a delinquent? Then marries the man who took her in? She was such a DELIGHT!!
Well actually Eddie hosted a show on TV called The Coke Hour. Thanks for this.
Eddie used to host a show on NBC called "Coke Time". It was a 15 minute show that ran after the NBC newscast two or three times a week.
Coke was the main sponsor of Eddie's TV show at the time. The show was actually titled: Coke Time With Eddie Fisher.
I saw her perform with Harve Presnell at Elitch Gardens in Denver many years ago
Eddie Fisher did the "Have a Coke" advertisement campaign for Coke-Cola in the 1950s.
