But great detail video keep up the good work. Happy Holidays God Bless
Wow - I’m sorry Sony was not honest in the way they handled it. This whole experience you have had has settled it for me - I’m gonna get a handheld PC which will have Hall effect joysticks to be my “way in” into my PS5, to do some mobile game playing. Thank you for doing the video series on the experience you had - it’s helped me decide which direction I want to go.
The biggest evidence it's a new replacement is the paper film, it's not to protect the screen during shipping, it's to protect when moving down the assembly line from one worker to the next. LCD OEMs apply those before it ever arrives at the assembly plant.
@@Boss_Fight_Index_muki , perhaps but, given that he was told that he would be given some sort of notice prior to it shipping (so he could ask questions) and that never happened, …in the very least shows a lack consistency between what tech support is telling customers and what is actually happening. In the very least, it gives the appearance of shadiness, if not out right evidence of it. At best, communication should be light years better than it is. After spending $200 on a product and having it crap out in such a short time AND then having to dig around to find the support AND then having to pay for the shipping to have it fix….the least they could do is let him know that he was getting a new device.
@@brandonwelch578he was never told he'd get a notice. Dafuq you talking about. Sony don't give day by day updates on your stuff. He got a new portal. Wants to complain to get views. Then says he don't want a refurbished portal but if his would of gotten fixed n sent back that makes it refurbished. Too bad neither of you have common sense cause it goes a long way.
Keep it if that's what you want. I agree with you that Sony should have informed you in the beginning that there is a chance that you will not receive your original portal back thus giving you the option to approve the switch for a refurbished device. That's shady business. The product is in high demand and getting your hands on one is pretty much impossible so I'm glad you do have one to share with us. Hopefully you won't experience any problems with the new device. 🤞🏾
Read the warranty paper. They say specifically that either a repair or replacement and that it may be either a new or factory refurbished one they will send you.
Typically most companies won’t fix a small issue like that. The idea is to get you the unit back faster. When I needed to replace my iPhone a week after it came out they had phones set aside just for that purpose. If they stopped and fixed every single unit; it could take months to get it back.
Y’all missing the point. What if he has this same problem with the new one they just sent. The model number is the same which means that those models are probably going to break faster or stop working. No one wants to send the portal back that much. And if you are paying premium for a device the shelf life should last longer.
@@dontedavis6414 how am I missing the point ? I work in IT and it’s usually quicker for us to give them a new laptop , instead of wasting their time repairing the unit. There’s always a contingency plan for defective units. For easy numbers less say Sony launched with 1 million units. If they had to repair 10k they would be at the industry standard 1%. If Sony said “ Hey man we need to repair your exact unit, it’s going to take 4-6 weeks” he wouldn’t be happy either.
I really don’t think it’s a reverb unit, I’d love to know if you ever find out though. If it was then yes they should have said and offered you this as an option or a refund. Given there was no communication I imagine this is a new replacement unit. Given the time they have been out I can’t imagine they are fixing broken units and sending out as replacements at this point.
I would go for a full refund if it's refurbished!! But, I've got a feeling that it could be a brand new unit. There was supposed to be a re-stock in the UK this week but it looks to be still sold out everywhere so I suspect Sony might have kept hold of that stock to replace units that can't be repaired... ??
@@CKidM It's probably new but because you didn't include the charging cable a retail boxed package sealed wouldnt make sense. Thats probably one from before it's packaged. If you included the charger in the package I would imagine the return product if it had to be replaced would have been sealed. They're not going to give you a free charger.
The biggest evidence it's a new replacement is the paper film, it's not to protect the screen during shipping, it's to protect when moving down the assembly line from one worker to the next. LCD OEMs apply those before it ever arrives at the assembly plant.
I thought it was a known thing for most warranties that they have the right to replace with a refurbished unit. Also, never send in anything that you want to keep. They just trash it when they get it. It’s why they tell us not to mail on cords. Third places don’t have spots to store property.
hey maaan i finally got my Portal and i am incredibly loving it, it’s been 3 days circa and i can confirm that this is what i always wanted for my Ps5, btw thank you for this little journey while i was waiting for my Portal, of course i’ll keep watching ur videos, i just want to thank you for being honest and so helpful❤
I don’t think Sony would put a new screen sticker on a refurbs. Placing a new factory screen protector is a pain in the ass and would have air bubbles etc. it would be noticeable. I am pretty sure this is a new unit.

@@Boss_Fight_Index_muki agreed, I think he takes an L for misinformation here. Making everyone believe he got a refurb. He needs to ensure he’s correct before getting his audience all riled up with lies. I would be happy to get a new unit rather than having them open the one I sent in to fix.
I just lost my ability to move up and down on my left stick… I sear if I have the same issue with the one they send me, a couple months down the line… ima be pissed…
I know you mad bro, but I don’t think that they sent you a refurbished unit. They more than likely just sent you a new unit and took it out of the box. If the device works, is it really that big of a deal?
Why do u think its refurbished? There is literally no explanation why u think it is. This is a new product replacement for sure. Its not a refurbished one.
People think about it tons of people had issues and sent the portal back. You think they will just give alot of people. New ones and not fulfilling orders for the next batch ? No they fixed the broken ones and sending them back under warranty. No where that I see Sony has to replace with a brand new one. Game Stop even had refurbished ones for sale and now they are out of stock
It's not another person's devices. They always have a separate stock that are open box units that way your old one goes back to manufacturer and open box stock goes to you. That's basically brand new just doesn't have a brand new box. Kinda sucks about the sleeve but at least this works?
I used to hate refurbished products, but if you think about it, if you get new, you don’t know if something will fail in it. Refurbished the problem has been found and fixed so the likelihood of it happening again is lower I think. I’m pretty sure that’s a new unit though. My Wii is refurbished and still going strong and has lasted longer than the original new one.
@@CKidMwould like to point out who refurbished it is a consideration, something like the manufacturer doing a warranty versus buying a “refurbished” from some eBay seller. I will always buy new, but I usually don’t stress about warranty refurbished products since it’s more likely than not using original parts versus an unknown part when buying refurbished elsewhere.

I’m with you. The fact the outer retail sleeve is missing I’d be losing my mind because I keep everything. Even if it works fine I’d still be asking Sony to refund me instead, not good enough.
That’s sucks bro I assumed that’s what was going to happen cuz that’s just standard procedure for these big companies and most people don’t complain cuz they have a working device again. Not knowing what problems might arise down the line. They really should give a heads up or at least a note in the packaging when they send it back what they did and if you’re not happy what next steps you can take. Very bad customer support on this from Sony.

@@Boss_Fight_Index_muki Either way the issue is they should let the consumer know that, preferably before shipping but minimum afterward either in an email or in the box. “Boom here’s what happened in order to expedite the process we gave you a brand new one, or we gave you a refurbished one, or we fixed yours here’s the same one back” not saying anything and just sneaking another unit in the box, new or not, seems kinda fishy to me.
I feel you’re overthinking it, chances are they just send out fixed units for the sake of getting products returned. Like I worked in repairs for a 3D printer company & some of those repairs took quite some time, I feel they get models in, send back fixed models to those customers & fix the units sent in to send out to future customers & to me as long as you have a fully functional unit then I don’t really see a problem here. You’re probably in a very small percentage of people who specifically want their exact unit back all the while you did just go out & get a 2nd Portal anyways.
I'm happy I got a unit back...just hard to tell if it's a used unit or not...mainly because I figured if it was new then it would've been in a sealed retail box...at least that's what I would've expected. But hey I've been wrong before
That’s how they work. They always send out refurbished units and that’s just the sad fact they’ve done that with PlayStation everything. I’ve had so many problems with stuff like that sad they even do it when you freaking send them in a controller in the past and they would just send you out somebody else’s freaking controller I sent in my PlayStation five got somebody else’s like looked inside of it. It was majorly, dirty and everything else. I don’t think it’s right that they do that. Ended up having nothing but problems with that one too Honestly, in my opinion, you send yours they should send you out a brand new one. That’s how this should work not a refurbished unit at all and first thing. If you just bought it, they shouldn’t make you pay for shipping like they do which I find. Ridiculous too like I just got it from them and it ends up being broken. Shouldn’t have to pay to send it back.

@@Boss_Fight_Index_muki actually they put that on all their units when they do replace them if it’s refurbished or not they put that over the front of them. It is like a screen protector cover they do that instead of the plastic see-through ones that you have to pull off it’s just to keep it from getting scratched and stuff. Nothing to do with it, protecting it from getting brokenbut still
Ha, is this your first warranty support claim with a major tech company? Honestly, I think that your experience is better than i would have expected. You spoke with a live support person and got a new functioning device back to you within 10 - 14 days. Sony probably feels like they did a great job!
Mines freshly new and already starting off with that left stick being slow or way too fast. Also noticed when trying to click the x button to click into something it sometimes doesn't work, same goes for the back button. (o button) Not happy if I have to send this in already!! Please let me know if this is exactly what you were talking about. I viewed and listened to the whole thing and sure sounded like the problem.
It's probably a warranty unit loads of companies keep warranty units to send out . Its definitely going to be cheaper just to replace it rather than fix it as its only £199 rrp
I would like an explanation of what happened to your ps portal. Pushing forward and back on left stuck creates a weird sound sometimes lol a clicking sound. I’m wondering if the ribbon cables are issue.
Dude, I’m fairly certain it’s a new unit. You ever break your new iPhone? I did. Went to the Apple Store, they have new units in unmarked boxes….they make a number of replacement units but don’t need the fancy boxing and packaging. It’s just the phone/unit. It’s not a refurbished model. My Xbox 360 had the RROD and I sent it out and they DID send me a refurbished model and I called to complain and they sent me a g/c for the Xbox store. Given how new the Portal is, you can likely bank on the fact that this is a new unit produced for damage replacement ones. All good.
If you've ever sent stuff back to get fixed you know they don't send back your original console back. Its in the policy of the manufacturers warranty. Doesnt matter if you took pictures of "your" playstation portal its just how its been for as long as I can remember. Maybe they should have let you know but its not going to change the way they've been doing it. Don't ever send them more then the console because you won't be getting it back.
Rip to your original box. I have gripes with PS for not refunding a game my son downloaded. Over 100 dollars. Because he played it for a couple of days, they claimed they couldn't issue a refund.
I have seen that in USA giving an item back at Best buy or other shops, they just refund you, and playstation customer service is bad, here in Germany i send it back to the shop, and they took all the costs of shipping and sending it to Sony (since i didnt want a refund, because getting one in Germany is hard enough). And i hope they will fix it here in Germany, and not just send a refurbished back, since its not a hard fix, just swap the analog stick component and thats it (I would have done it myself but there are no spare parts)
I unsubscribed.. what are you complaining about Sony sent you a brand new unit, you have no evidence that it was refurbished.. you complaining just to complain. Very annoying.
How do I go about shipping it back to them? I didn't get mine off playstation directly when it dropped I bought mine from Walmart website but I got insurance on it.
I don't think ANY HW reseller will give you back YOUR device - they aren't contractually obligated to. Way too long a video - could have been done in 5mins.
How do you know its refurbished and not a new unit? Or are u just assuming because its not in the main cover box? It could be brand new just without the cover box. Why not call and ask cuz youre kind of putting out misleading information when u dont know for a fact its refurbished. Just saying.. ps there was an system update put out while urs was sent back so thats what that was
A new unit doesn’t necessarily have to be in a new box you know, they could have pulled a brand new one off the assembly line and shipped it to you, which I think they did, if it was a refurbished unit, you would not have to download all the updated software again, get it together bro, the portal is nothing new, you were able to play games remotely five years ago on any cellphone, computer or ipad.
I don't think you understand how these things work bro. This is a replacement unit, doesn't make it refurbished and being that there's no memory stored they can send you another unit without any loss for you. Had they just fixed yours that would literally make it a refurbished unit.
So you basically paid full price for a new one it messed about so you sent it off then they send you back a second hand one as a replacement 🤦🏽♂️that’s not good but I mean if it works it works I guess
Microsoft did the exact same thing to my Elite Series 2 controller twice - sent me refurbished controllers under thier warranty and not my original controller back. Very disappointing they didn't even send me a new controller either
I can tell you with certainty, a repair wasn't even attempted. They just shipped you that one when they got the broken one. It's not economical and you would be waiting weeks to months. It makes no business sense to Sony to repair your exact unit and send back.
I'd send it back! I like new so if they could not fix it don't just send me someone else's fix or not 200.00 device. I'd send it back and the same day order another brand new one.
Maaann chill out. You didn't even call to confirm if it is a refurbished unit. Now true they should have called and contacted you about the unit changes. But for all you know they probably sent you a brand new one
The thing is you won’t get a new replacement since you already used yours and sent it back, so it’s only fair that you get a refurbished one for the warranty replacement.
I would like to believe it's a new unit too. It's to new and there's no inventory. Just without all of the pretty packaging. But, I feel you pain in the uncertainty of it all.

Awesome 👏🏽 video bro, I doubt that PlayStation Portal is refurbished, it’s prolly brand new from the extra they have and they sent you that, so they can work on the other one and see why did stick drift happen so fast, but you can also fix those thumbsticks yourself really easy! But great detail video keep up the good work. Happy Holidays God Bless
That more likely is a replacement unit. That's why there is only the outer case.
Of course they aren’t sending your original unit back. It’s easier to send a refurbished or new unit. Most companies always do that

At SCEA's option
Typically most companies won’t fix a small issue like that. The idea is to get you the unit back faster. When I needed to replace my iPhone a week after it came out they had phones set aside just for that purpose. If they stopped and fixed every single unit; it could take months to get it back.
Good point
@@Jaccsparrow82 🗣🗣🗣
This man literally got a new device and kept talking about it not being his.
They just put a new device in a box and sent it back
THIS IS A NEW UNIT , just got mine back too and I called them to confirm it’s new
I really don’t think it’s a reverb unit, I’d love to know if you ever find out though. If it was then yes they should have said and offered you this as an option or a refund. Given there was no communication I imagine this is a new replacement unit. Given the time they have been out I can’t imagine they are fixing broken units and sending out as replacements at this point.
Bought mines 3 days ago. Sad to report, issue is still occurring.
Yea you could be right...if so I would've liked it to be in the sealed retail box then.
Salute King, did you read the paperwork to see if they informed you if it was a refurbished or a new replacement?@@CKidM
@@CKidM
That's a good point!! You definitely want to follow this up with them!! It's not acceptable!!

I thought it was a known thing for most warranties that they have the right to replace with a refurbished unit.
Also, never send in anything that you want to keep. They just trash it when they get it. It’s why they tell us not to mail on cords. Third places don’t have spots to store property.
I rarely send stuff back so it's all new to me...but definitely noted
hey maaan i finally got my Portal and i am incredibly loving it, it’s been 3 days circa and i can confirm that this is what i always wanted for my Ps5, btw thank you for this little journey while i was waiting for my Portal, of course i’ll keep watching ur videos, i just want to thank you for being honest and so helpful❤

That’s A Brand New Unit , just called Sony to confirm 👍🏽 there not sending refurbished models back
I know you mad bro, but I don’t think that they sent you a refurbished unit. They more than likely just sent you a new unit and took it out of the box. If the device works, is it really that big of a deal?
Why do u think its refurbished? There is literally no explanation why u think it is. This is a new product replacement for sure. Its not a refurbished one.
My speculation simply came from it not being in the same retail packaging or "Sealed"retail packaging...but hey I could be wrong
Had mine for 2 days. Left joystick stop working too.
You realise if they fixed your one that you sent in then sent that back, then that makes it a refurbished portal aswell? 😂😂
Right but it at least would be mine. lol. Which is the one I originally bought.
Sounds like you are just nitpicking. you just got a new unit and you're complaining about it. LOL
Frs, bro is kinda slow
That case creates black marks underneath over time
How do you have the box if they didn't send you the box back ? 😂😂😂😂
That's a great point I've never thought of it that way
@@CKidMwould like to point out who refurbished it is a consideration, something like the manufacturer doing a warranty versus buying a “refurbished” from some eBay seller.

To me its weird you keep packaging , I assume after you eat snickers you keep the wrapper to right ?
@@jaca316 To me this assumption is weird. Why would I keep a wrapper from something I’ve ate lol?
@@BigBad8278 ok so lets keep something that you dont eat like scissors

I have this exact problem with mine and now i have to find a way to a ups to package and ship it back to my PlayStation on my dime.
Yea not vibing with how everything got handled.

That boyyyy HEATED!!!!!
Dude you got a brand new unit what are you moaning about ?
You should be happy not upset .
I'm happy I got a unit back...just hard to tell if it's a used unit or not...mainly because I figured if it was new then it would've been in a sealed retail box...at least that's what I would've expected. But hey I've been wrong before
Given how long it’s been out I seriously doubt you got a refurbished unit; it’s likely new just without the box.
Yea I was just hoping to get my same unit back or at least with the full box
That’s how they work. They always send out refurbished units and that’s just the sad fact they’ve done that with PlayStation everything. I’ve had so many problems with stuff like that sad they even do it when you freaking send them in a controller in the past and they would just send you out somebody else’s freaking controller I sent in my PlayStation five got somebody else’s like looked inside of it. It was majorly, dirty and everything else. I don’t think it’s right that they do that.
Ended up having nothing but problems with that one too
Honestly, in my opinion, you send yours they should send you out a brand new one.

Nothing to do with it, protecting it from getting brokenbut still
I don’t believe it’s refurbished,I believe your new portal is a brand new unit.
That's a damn refurbished unit boi hell nahh 😂😂
Ha, is this your first warranty support claim with a major tech company? Honestly, I think that your experience is better than i would have expected. You spoke with a live support person and got a new functioning device back to you within 10 - 14 days. Sony probably feels like they did a great job!
I bought a open box at Best buy and the left thumb stick isn't working either 😭 this sounds like these devices might be mess up
Their email said not to send your original box
Mines freshly new and already starting off with that left stick being slow or way too fast. Also noticed when trying to click the x button to click into something it sometimes doesn't work, same goes for the back button. (o button) Not happy if I have to send this in already!! Please let me know if this is exactly what you were talking about. I viewed and listened to the whole thing and sure sounded like the problem.
So they sent u a different one? I was kinda lost.
It's probably a warranty unit loads of companies keep warranty units to send out .
Its definitely going to be cheaper just to replace it rather than fix it as its only £199 rrp
It might be a brand new one apple would give you a brand new one
I would like an explanation of what happened to your ps portal. Pushing forward and back on left stuck creates a weird sound sometimes lol a clicking sound. I’m wondering if the ribbon cables are issue.
Since this is remote play only but is getting ps cloud gaming later next year can u use this with remote play on ps4 when it’s fully on
Apple and Samsung send refurbished $1k phones all the time and people dont cry about it 😂
Dude, I’m fairly certain it’s a new unit.
This is standard procedure for pretty much all tech products.
I see.
Your sticks are clicking?
Yea Sony been doing that since the PlayStation 3 I sent in my 60GB ps3 5 times before they just offered me to upgrade to the PS3 Slim 120GB😢
They did the exact same dirty move with My brothers PS VR2. I am about to leave PlayStation forever! They don’t even know what Bluetooth is!
You don’t 100% no it’s someone else’s, it could be a brand new device, unless I’m missing something
Then why not send it in the sealed retailed box?
@@CKidM thats why they tell you to send them back your product with no accessories etc. because thats how it’s coming back to you
I don't think you understand how these things work bro.
It’s fixed right? Why complain? Is it possible to block certain UA-cam-ers? Cause buddy you’re out of here.
Defo brand new😂 not been out long enough. Sony felt sorry for you and once took a look they just sent u brand new one. I extremely doubt they begin fixing units before first 3months
You got a new unit because they couldn't fix the issue. I've had a PS5 with a defective GPU and received a new unit.
