      Or perhaps the reversed audio is a sign. Instead of coming from Ganondorf's corpse, perhaps it's actually pouring all of its power and malice into trying to take the Triforce of Power's abilities by reanimating his corpse.

      Mediocrity Well, I think the problem is that 10,000 years ago, Malice was nowhere nearly as powerful or relevant, and it's possible nobody even knew what it was in detail. And remember that Skyward Sword took place thousands of years before the beginning of this 10,000 year period. We are talking about Malice having originated maybe 20,000 years ago, and it had at least 10,000 years to evolve in secret and in hiding. Nobody could have predicted said evolution.

    There's another way Skyward Sword couls tie into Malice's creation:
    Skyward Sword reveals that Ganon/Ganondorf is the reincarnation of the Demon God, Demise. After his defeat at the hands of Skyward Sword's Link, he curses Link and Zelda to an endless cycle of reincarnation, with his own reincarnation rising to act against them each time until he finally defeats them.
    Malice could be a part of Demise's curse; his way of ensuring that all of Hyrule suffers even if his reincarnation can't directly act against it.

    Another bit about the Evil Crystal: When you pick it up in-game, the description box not only again refers to it as a "chunk of crystallized monster malice" but also points out its extreme rarity. (It's second only to Goddess Plumes in terms of rarity.) In BotW, the stuff is everywhere.
    It can multiply, and do so at an alarmingly fast rate. All it needs is a source of pure water to befoul and spread through.

      Wolfgang Drachenberg Well, that amount of time is less relevant for multiplication itself and more relevant in terms of its evolution and its ability to adapt to Shiekah technology such that it could outperform it and cause the destruction that it did during the Great Calamity. This ability to outperform Shiekah technology is also perfectly consistent with what we observe in the trailer for the sequel of Breath of the Wild.

    This honestly makes me wonder if by the end when Ganondorf 'gives up reancarnation' he's really just dead. Malice reanimates the dead, controls spirits and causes mindlessness.

      Ganon doesn’t actually give up on reincarnation, in the Japanese version Zelda tells us that his transformation into Dark Beast Ganon was because of his unwillingness to give up on reincarnating or something to that effect

    • @Ghesh_Vargiet

      Ganon didn’t give up Ganondorf did but Demises curse left the malice to take over without Ganondorfs mind forming Ganon

  • @NFITC1
    @NFITC1 7 років тому +246

    In the Japanese dialog, Zelda states that Ganon has NOT given up on resurrection, but implies that he allowed himself to take on a corrupted form to continue his rampage. Perhaps, while he was in his cocoon, he was attempting to merge with the malice and gain its power, but after emerging prematurely (according to his entry in the compendium) became completely taken over by the malice, which then absorbed the power of the triforce (which was in Zelda) and became the Dark Beast.

      The Power that Zelda wields is the Light Force. The Full Triforce Mark you see in the Flashbacks signifies that she can use her powers and it isn't the Whole thing but the Light Force. The Triforce cannot be absorbed in which way necessary. Only the Light Force can be syphoned to gain power. Vaati and Calamity Ganon drained some of it though.

    Malice was also present in The Wind Waker and Spirit Tracks. In the Wind Waker it was a gas and you wouldn't be able to use any of your weapons much like in Skyward Sword.
    In Spirit Tracks, it was also a gas. When you would go into it, you would lose your hearts.
    Also in Phantom Hourglass, when the Hourglass has ran out of Golden Sand, you would also lose hearts and the player would get a purple glow, gassy glow around them.
    Maybe a way to fight Malice is with the Golden Sand from the Phantom Hourglass itself. Or at least protect the owner of the Hourglass against the malice.

    Another small detail to point out. This isn't too important, but it came to mind as I was watching the video. I see people all over the internet that are part of the BotW community complain about how easy the final boss fight; Beast Ganon was. Quite evidently, Lynels and Monk Maz Koshia are more difficult than most of the Blights, as well as Calamity and Beast Ganon. The whole 'mindless' idea perfectly explains why that's the case. I'm positive that if the final bosses weren't controlled by the Malice, and had a mind of their own, they would be much more difficult to beat. Note how Lynel attacks are much more coordinated and difficult to avoid than those of Beast Ganon. And Maz Koshia and Lynels definitely don't seem to be controlled by Malice. I just thought I would point that out to resolve all of those complaints. I love your channel by the way, keep up the great work!
    Edit: I came back to this almost a year later. Many of the replies pointed out Thunderblight Ganon, and that he was certainly not easy. I'd say that now, my theory mostly applies to Dark Beast Ganon, so it's still worth mentioning. If I come up with anything else, I'll let everyone know.

    • @LainK1978

      Lynels and Monk Maz Koshia are not more difficult it is just a matter of figuring out how to kill them being different. Once you know how to kill the Lynels they are rather easy. But even knowing how to kill the Ganons they are still no pushoever.

Just becaude it is explained in the story doesnt mean it is a good idea for a game. I would rather the Gameplay be good with nothing explaining what I am looking at than a really shitty fight that looks cool and is explained through logic. Also, we have to remember that Demise is the origin of the Bokoblins and evil. In some way, he's the creator of the Malice that we know and love. So what if, his incarnation as he said, is not Ganondorf, from a certain point of view, but the Malice. Demise's hatred towards the Hero and the Descendant of the Goddess survived throught this dark energy called Malice, it would make sense.

    • @Hovane5
      @Hovane5 7 років тому +11

      NintendoBlackCrisis You definitely should... I was going to make a similar comment, stating my doubt about the pools in the Ancient Cistern being the origin of Malice. It is likely to be the same situation as in BOTW, where they are infected by the Malice. Now, as to whether Demise is the origin of Malice is debatable. On one hand, it makes sense. I know you haven't played Skyward Sword, so I don't know if you want it to be spoiled. If not, stop reading now! Haha, otherwise, with his last words, Demise states that his hate never perishes, but is born anew in a cycle with no end... He curses all the descendants of those with the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero to be eternally bound to being haunted by endless reincarnations of his hate.
      On the other hand, I think of Malice as basically the Dark Side. We wouldn't say that Goddess Hylia created Love and Joy, right? She's basically the Light Side balance to Demise. Since they balance each other out, it always comes down to (re)incarnations duking it out on their respective deity's behalf for eternity. Thus, I agree with one of the above comments that there must have been something lost in translation at the end of BOTW. These particular incarnations of Malice (all the blights, Calamity Ganon, and Dark Beast Ganon) may be gone, but the Dark Side will never vanish.
      As for its sentience, I think the Force is again a good analogy. Malice is only as sentient insofar as it is consumes and corrupts, just as the Dark Side does. It's obviously not a perfect fit, but I think this struggle between light and dark is a recurring motif throughout the franchise (e.g. The Light/Dark Worlds in A Link to the Past, or the Dark Link version of yourself that you fight) that isn't just about good vs. evil in the abstract, but a more tangible fight with a material force/energy.

      I'd argue that malice is inherited as an ability.
      ALttP makes the first reference to malice, as the manual states that despite Ganon being in the sacred realm, a noxious substance had started seeping into Hyrule. Twilight Princess is the first formal introduction of malice, with Ganondorf using it as an actual source of power. In the Decline Timeline, we see Ganondorf giving up his own mortality using the full Triforce, forever becoming Ganon: the Demon King. This is why Pig Ganon is the only incarnation that can't be killed. He can be destroyed, like a bokoblin, but he always resurrects at some point. This seems to hint at Ganon being the full on replacement or incarnation equivalent to Demise, since he takes over as Demon King and has fully shed mortality.

    I found more!
    LoZ: Minish Cap & Four Swords.
    Vaati.
    As the final boss in Minish Cap, he transforms into a sorty black cloud with one single gold/red eye and is protected by eight blue orbs ('Vaati Transfigured'). Again, arrow in the eye seals his death.
    But there is more.
    He transforms again, now he is a giant eyeball with two 'arms' which are made out of black orbs ending in golden pincer-like claws and has four smaller eyes protecting him from any attack, this form is called 'Vaatis Wrath'.
    (also, inside of him are also little eyes which look somewhat like bactaria?)
    He also appears in Four Swords in a form like 'Vaatis Wrath' and can **posess objects** in the first form of the final fight.
    Oh boy, is there a connection?
    Vaati was full of hatred, of seeking power, he could be 'infected' with Malice which made him take the Magic Cap and do the wish.
    He has to be infected before it got full control of him, just like the spirit in Breath of the Wild or the Malice was was not fully grown to infect humans just like a bokoblin, most likly because humans are smarter or just evolutionary further?

    My theory in this game was that the temple bosses in the game, fire blight, water blight, wind blight. were not entities in their own but rather the former champions themselves, what you stated a blight to be a disease, a disease is not usually a stand alone organism, it parasites off of something or someone, one piece of evidence I thought about was when Link became apart of the tech that allowed his teleportation from shrine to shrine. The way he re enters the world if you look at the blights when you start the fight It is very similar, another bit I thought about was the weapons each blight used; water blight used a spear, like the Zora princess, wind blight had a fair mastery of ranged weapons and cyclones(similar to revali's gale), the lightning blight had a shield and sword like the treasured weapons you get from the geruda that belonged to their chief , my theory: in defeating the blights Link is either killing the bodies of or killing the champions from 100 years ago and in doing so freeing their spirits

      Urbosa: this thing is fast
      Revali: its aim is dead on
      So i dont think its entirely true but it coukd be that the blights were once just tiny ganons but absorbed the chanpions when they were defeated. That could be a possible theory,

    This is one of my 2 FAVOURITE zelda theories. Additionally, most games have enemies explode into purple smoke when you defeat them - a gaseous form of malice, perhaps?
    This means that the reason why monsters in zelda fight you and are evil, probably isn’t because they genuinely support Ganon’s cause, but because they’re infected by malice. However, it’s not that much because in botw they dance around campfires and the like and are really quite endearing so they’re not entirely mindless.
    ALSO in Skyward Sword, Demise says “my hate never perishes”. Most believe this refers to the reincarnations of the bearer of the triforce of power. However, doesn’t that seem odd to you? Din is a goddess like Nayru and Farore, so why would she allow her piece of the triforce to be continually used for evil? Maybe Demise was actually referring to malice. Maybe he meant that malice never goes extinct, but continues to infect.
    The reason why it always infects the wielder of the triforce of power is because it’s a good survival strategy - corrupt someone who already has so much hatred and power because they will be able to help the malice spread.

    • @maggysten8055
      @maggysten8055 7 років тому +8

      Another thing! The purple smoke when enemies dies must be malice because it only appears when an enemy dies. If a (not infected by malice) horse dies in botw, the corpse simply disappears - no smoke!
      Additionally, while I haven’t played them, I think in an older game there’s a moblin (or another monster) which isn’t evil. This means there can be monsters that aren’t corrupted by malice, which results in them not being evil.

    • @CJluvsMJ27

    It's interesting to think about the origin of evil itsel in Hyrule. Skyward Sword is the earliest game in the story and all we know is that the godesses created the land and gave the triforce to Hylia so it would be "guarded". Then we learn that one day, demonic forces came from a fissure in the land. It's not clear if evil was created by the godesses to be present in Hyrule or if evil invaded the land afterwards. Considering that the sacred powers directly oppose the malice/evil ones, it may be that the gods know of forces opposing then and they cannot stop them from infecting their creation. Demise himself states that he hates the gods. Maybe malice is this evil in a more pure form while Demise was just one great user of this power and created ganon as a side effect of his curse (ganon as an embodiment of the curse, not just the gerudo incarnation) and so it would be quite possible for Malice to take control of Ganon or for some other user of Malice to do it. This hatred of the gods though... It's interesting to think there's more to it. The Twili also betrayed the gods and used shadow magic, but Midna said their magic was different from Ganon's. Probably the shadows were created by the godesses opposed to malice. Thus the fused shadow could not win against the Light Spirits but a Ganon powered Zant could. Thinking of Sacred powers, Zelda's only awakened when she expressed self-sacrifice (or love) for Link. Maybe the conflict between Malice and the Sacred is a conflict between love for others and selfshness/disdain for others in it's core (?). The Malice reviving the dead trough hatred may be a way to oppose the order created by Nayru. Anyway, I love your theories ❤️

    • @MHcomposer

      And what if the Malice is DIVINE in nature? Maybe it's a being like the gods but focused on leading existence to chaos and nothingness. It doesn't create anything (as it would be against it's purpose of destroying), just corrupts the creations of the gods. Maybe hatred is the way malice manifests in the mind because it's a feeling that destroys things while love preserves things and ultimately creates more of it. So... anything the gods create is vulnerable to Malice because it's a kind of god itself. THIS FINALY would explain why the goddesses designed the Triforce in the way it is... Only non-divine beings can use it, as stated by Hylia in Skyward Sword, and the beings that can use it must master wisdon, courage and power.. and since the beings infected by malice lose hemselves to a destructive existence, it's unlikely they would wield it. So the godesses designed the Triforce so it would be a powerful weapon AGAINST MALICE, granting the wishes of those aligned with the gods only and preserving the creations... Wow, that's a lot to think about

I know Nintendo™ isn't planning to create another Zelda game anytime soon, but can you just imagine? A game where Gannon isn't the final boss, but rather Malice, that has evolved enough to talk, eat, and maybe have a "humanoid form"! It would be the next darkest game of the franchise after Majora's Mask.

      TBH, I wouldn't like some kind of incarnation of Malice as a BBEG. There's not really any possibility for depth or complexity when you make a character the embodiment of hatred/evil/whatever. Sure, it can be sp00ky, but it doesn't lend itself well to character development.
      Look at Ganondorf in Wind Waker. He very clearly had some amount of depth and ruminated on why he grew to covet power and the triforce. Sure, it's minimal, but it's there and enhanced the game greatly. Even Majora's Mask, probably the scariest villain in the franchise, basically just had some twisted up views on companionship leading his terrible actions, and wasn't a bland incarnation of whatever emotion.
      That's why I didn't like Ganon in BotW. He has no character anymore and is just a big evil magic boar who smashes stuff and shoots lasers. I would much prefer a more humanized villain who uses the malice to his own gain, and isn't necessarily linked to it.

    • @kelmirosue3251
      @kelmirosue3251 7 років тому +1

      Mauro Fantin well, I think it would be interesting. As Melody Anonymous said, it wouldn't be interesting or in depth of if it's all evil and hatred. But what if the Malice did have a humanoid form. I believe it would be interesting, creepy, and actually had the idea of instead of destroying it. But trying to get enough people to kill the gods of Hyrule and the rest of the world make it it's own realm. I think that would show how it evolved, and that would show something that not even Gannon has gone to great lengths to do. But Demise has tried but wanted the Triforce to do it. I'm talking about challenging the gods directly. Idk, just an idea and would show a huge and probably the most powerful villain in the game series

  • @snurt256

    Here's my take on the theory:
    Malice has existed since Skyward Sword, but is is not Ganon's creation. Note that the king says in Breath of the Wild that Ganon "transformed" into malice. It's possible that Ganon originally tried to assume a form similar to the ones he has been in before, the boar/beast/Ganon thing. However, during his transformation into Ganon, he tried to possess the Malice and use it to control the Sheikah technology, but in the process, corrupted himself and became the Calamity. And about malice being able to learn? It may have created the Blights because of knowledge and power absorbed from Ganon. The best way to think about this is to compare it to the X parasites in Metroid Fusion. The malice could have absorbed Ganon's power and intelligence to cause the Calamity the same way the X took over Samus' Power Suit to become the SA-X, as well as corrupting and absorbing several other bosses, including Ridley. But malice is also a substance, and the whole "corruption" part making it learn makes it more similar to Phazon from the Metroid Prime trilogy. After all, Phazon was able to learn from organisms it corrupted, which, coincidentally, also included Samus. I believe that Malice has been there from the start, acting on its own, waiting to try to corrupt Link, Ganon, or even both (though in the end, it only succeeded in corrupting Ganon).
    Also, I won't object to criticism of my theory. I can use it to make revisions.

      That's because as Zelda states the blood moon is when Ganon's power is at its greatest. And I believe that the Malice is the pure essence of evil, evil which was brought apon the world by Demise, who reincarnated into Ganon. I don't think Ganon was taken over by the malice, Ganon IS the malice. He gave up his ability to reincarnate and shed his form to become pure hatred, and hatred is hard to control so he lost control of himself. The point that we can't say that Calamity Ganon is actually Ganon because the blights are also called Ganon in the video doesn't make sense to me, as the blights are fragments of Ganon.

      I think he isn't made of malice but the malice is a kind of armor protecting Ganon and before the malice can fully disappear, Zelda gets rid of him, so that means he could still appear in another game in the timeline as his normal form. Even though he gave up reincarnation he isn't dead, just only sealed away.

What does waterblight ganon carry? A trident. What does daruk carry? A cobble crusher. What does fireblight ganon carry? A massive fire axe! What does revali use? A bow. Before the boss fight, Ghirahim, says that he was there trying to find clues in order to reincarnate his master, Demise. Right after that he brings Koloktos to life, with some sort of malice-like substance.

  • @the_maverickk
    @the_maverickk 7 років тому +51

    Sorry gotta stop you at "Ganon is very likely mindless".
    I don't think this to be the case. Just because the malice infected bokoblin skulls are mindless does not mean that Ganon is mindless himself. I think that the malice is a concentrated form of Ganon's hatred (or Demise at that and his demonic power)... and that hatred is all that is left to him, and as such this is more or less all that is left of Ganon's body.... the only physical element to existence is this concentrated malice, and as such it's more or less pieces of what little of his body and being that remains at this point in time.
    I think Ganon at it's core knows this... and I think he is connected to every piece of malice in the games world. It's just how strong of a connection that is. Or how much direct control does he in fact have as he sits trapped within Hyrule Castle.
    I believe in his initial attack he sought out to take control and infect what he could. The Guardians at the end of the day take front and center. They were already empty husks. The second things he sought to take over were the divine beasts which were also empty husks save for their champion drivers. This is where he made a much more deliberate move with what I would call his generals. The Blights of Ganon. Larger, cognitive pieces of malice with the purpose of destroying and taking control of the divine beasts. Their goal (programmed into them by Ganon himself) simply to get rid of the weapons that had defeated him a thousand or so years earlier. You can't say it was coincidence that he went after them in the events just before BotW.
    As for Ganon in the castle that you fight at the end of the game. That Ganon, does have a mind (or as much of a mind as a constantly enraged and defeated and pummeled a villain could have). It isn't simply malice possessing sheikah tech. That said it is in fact an INCOMPLETE body for Ganon. Since it's mentioned that Ganon was in fact trying to reincarnate himself, to build himself a new body. This is until Zelda used her spiritual powers to in fact, SUCCESSFULLY seal Ganon within Hyrule castle. This is in fact what saved Hyrule 100 years earlier from total destruction.
    I would assume that by sealing him, it also halted or slowed his ability to reincarnate, and he may have even been forced to use what he could in the immediate area to build himself a new body. Hence pieces of the Guardians which are plentiful around the castle. Also while sealed, it's arguable that the Blights and those pockets of malice are now severed from Ganon's connection. Here is where the whole "mindless" thing may have some credence. In fact the Divine Beasts were simply inactive up until this point, and only began to move and rampage as the seal weakened (an event that is shown to be occurring as Link see's Ganons essence emerge in the distance from Hyrule Castle (although still trapped and contained). It's in that moment you could say that each domain started to have it's issues.
    So does this mean that as the seal weakened Ganon was starting to regain control and connection with those severed bits of his body, the malice in Guardians and the Divine Beasts. Personally I think this is more likely the case. How much is his influence and control and how much is them just becoming active and acting out mindlessly because he doesn't have complete control though is up for debate.
    In any case I think you've got the whole thing backwards. I think the Calamity Ganon is the closest thing to a coherent, dark lord as we will get in Breath of the Wild. It looks the most like Ganondorf because he was in the process of reshaping and building his body to what it used to be like as a human. That said, Link went and got to the throne room and he couldn't finish his reincarnation, that new body, and as such he is just an amalgamation of Sheikah tech and malice. It's a make shift temporary measure done because he doesn't have any more time left and has to defend himself from the hero who seeks to eradicate him yet again.
    After Link beats him down in that pit in his most human form (gave him credit he did his best given the circumstances) that is when as Zelda puts it "has given up on reincarnation" and at this point he is so enraged that he becomes simply "a being of pure malice". Now this here, is STILL Ganon... but if you want to talk about a mindless Ganon. This is it. Dark Beast Ganon is the mindless form... it doesn't care about being human again or having any shred of humanity... it's a beast, and it's out to destroy Hyrule, and it's here that Ganon doesn't really give a shit about the little fly buzzing around him in that field, he's just shooting wildly all around.
    To me this makes the most sense.

      NintendoBlackCrisis Ikr? Until you brought this theory up, I simply thought of malice as nothing more than just bile that Ganon litters all over the place. One thing though, is malice simply a corrupting force or is it a sentient thing, since it is as you stated, evolving?

    • @NintendoBlackCrisis
      @NintendoBlackCrisis  7 років тому +3

      Very good question. Since Malice may be formed out of hatred, there may be different types of it. And since it seems to know to attack when someone gets close (ex Corrupted Naboris' lightning) and that the yellow eyes seem to respond when you get close (they actually open their eyes when Link approaches) it might be considered a sentient thing.

    • @felippebaricuatro1281
      @felippebaricuatro1281 7 років тому +2

      NintendoBlackCrisis Agreed and this is just a pitch to support its sentience. The divine beasts and guardians. If Ganon was simply a mindless beast, it could've attacked hyrule by itself, but instead it chose to go after the guardians and the divine beasts, corrupting them and even taking them for himself. Its as if it learned its lesson. There's a clear exhibition of intelligence there. Its strategy nearly worked cause before Zelda unlocked her sealing powers, Hyrule was overwhelmed and he nearly killed Link.

    • @NintendoBlackCrisis
      @NintendoBlackCrisis  7 років тому +3

      Kylo For Rent I also have a theory that Calamity Ganon was mindless when corrupting the divine beasts. When he went on a rampage when he returned, he might have unintentionally corrupted the guardians and divine beasts. It wouldn't be surprising, considering how much malice he spread onto hyrule

I personally don't speak or read japanese so i am reliant on what other people are saying, so i am wary of most other people. Something that was also pointed out to me is that zelda at the end says that "Ganon is gone for now." contradicting that he has giving up on reincarnating. It's weird and confusing but am i personally theorizing with a possible misstranslation in the back of my mind.

    • @XanderVJ
      @XanderVJ 7 років тому +24

      What it says in the original Japanese (and the non-English translations, for that matter) is that Ganon's final form is the result of his multiple reincarnations. The "giving up" part is NOWHERE to be seen.
      Also, I'm afraid the term "Malice" was also something that NOA pulled out of their asses. In the original the "Malice" is just a generic dark energy, without any other special meaning.
      And these are far from the only issues. Seriously, translation liberties are not inherently a bad thing, but the English team at NOA got WAAAAAAAAAAAAY over the line with "Breath of the Wild". The non-English localizations where more faithful in general. NOE tends to be more disciplined than NOA when it comes to this kind of stuff.

      Sorry to jump into this conversation, but I found several articles that all led back to this one: legendsoflocalization.com/breath-of-the-wilds-ganon-in-english-japanese/
      Basically the Japanese translation is something like "the Dark Beast form is a result of Ganon *refusing to give up on being reincarnated*", or at least the meaning is to that effect.
      People are drawing the conclusion that NoA took too many liberties with translation, but... eh.
      Edit: The article also shows the "secret" ending, and the two situations are reversed there. In English Zelda says "Ganon is gone _for now_ ", but the Japanese version doesn't have any phrase like that.

    Opinions are simply that, and I'm not the most informed, but this is mine. If malice is, as it appears to be, the result of pure hatred, then it isn't some looming threat over Hyrule as you presented it to be at the end of the game. certain enemies when brought to a point of hatred enough to be cursed with malice, become the mindless undead foes link must face, but other than the corrupted water, the only time this has spread, and forgive me for I haven't played skyward sword either, was when calamity Gannon was overtaken by malice because of his hatred of link. to me, this implies that the only reason it spreads and infects things without hatred of their own is that of the immense power of the being it corrupted. with the level of hatred to fule the malice, it was able to spread and corrupt things without their own hatred. now that Gannon is gone again, once link finishes killing the monsters in the land, the remaining malice should subside, as seen in the end credit scenes where everything is clear again. without the hatred of Gannon to fule the malice, it dies away, like a disease without a host. while what is left over is dangerous, it only appears to propagate from hatred. without the hatred of Gannon, there is a finite source of Malice in the world, until someone/something else accumulates enough hatred to produce more malice.

      Plot twist, Zelda grows up real bitchy and gains a pure hatred for Ganon coz history and jealous Link is dating a descendant of Ruto and she is the villian of the game, since malice can infect spirits as stated, why not a human form of Hylia who's power is passed on by blood, and how does the bloodline continue? Who does she bang to make the next princess? some games like of SS suggests Zelda and Link had a thing that could have continued, does that mean both could share the same blood since the moment Hylians came back to the ground, which is how Hylia promised a hero through the ages along with her reincarnation? I just thought half of this stoned while replying with the joke in the first line xD But you do bring up a good point, it started with a gerudo thief, what would happen if another race continued the reincarnation cycle through malice, it's glow is oddly similar to demise's hair just a purple like a curse too? especially in dark beast ganon form. You are in the ancient cistern in the time after you defeat demise in the past as well as it being one of the deepest points geographically to be in the game i think? (it felt like it to me)

      Except this is false, because Link was not dead. Just to be clear, the game clarifies that Link was sent to the shrine of resurrection because Zelda sensed that the Master Sword still responded to Link's pain and still glowed, which confirms that Link was still indeed alive, even if he was due to die soon. The "resurrection" in the name of the Shrine of Resurrection is more akin to clinical resurrection and less akin to actual, metaphysical resurrection.

The problem is that could also mean that Ganon is still in control.

      The game is already dark at almost every turn. The hylian civil war, the gerudo-hylian war, Majora’s mask, Demise, Larule (hope I’m saying that right) the drowning of Hyrule in Wind Waker, Zant taking over (the way he looks for starters, that’s creepy), the sealed grounds, etc. the series maybe family friendly but damn this list alone makes me think otherwise. And now blight?

    I love this theory! It'd be so cool to learn that Malice was the true enemy the whole time, never Ganon.
    Also it supports my hope that one day we'll get a good Ganondorf who'll fight alongside Link and Zelda. Poor guy is just misunderstood, the mass genocide and destruction of civilisation weren't his fault at all! He was corrupted by Malice!

      while he may be powered, and corrupted by the malice when he's calamity Gannon, the malice spawns from his own internal hatred towards link and hyrule. this can only happen if he was already the vilain.

    I had never played breath of the Wild but when you started talking about malice I immediately thought of the evil crystal in Skyward Sword and I had completely forgotten about the purple cursed water this is an amazing video man I like it!
    The source of the curse is Demise he created all of the cursing stuff and was the one who created the generational curse which created Ganondorf's evil power and this is the ultimate source of malice.

    Except for the fact that the opposite seems to be true. Calamity Ganon could just be controlling the malice in order to curse the Bokoblin, moblin, and lizalfos skeletons to mindlessly attack people. Also it's stated in the game that Ganon is building a new body for himself from the sheikah tech and malice. The four blight ganons could just be an extension of calamity ganon himself since he would need to stop people from retaking control of the divine beasts, it's not much of a stretch for him to make four smaller versions of himself. He made a puppet and phantom Ganon in wind Waker and another phantom ganon in ocarina of time so that's not really too farfetched to say that's what he's doing here. In ocarina of time Ganondorf only destroyed castle town and just put the other regions in turmoil similar to what he does in breath of the wild with the divine beasts. The transformation into malice part could easily just be his way of causing destruction since at that point he didn't really have a body yet. Also dark beast Ganon going ape shit and destroying everything is basically what he does in twilight princess on a larger scale since he is in a blind rage cause you destroyed his new body. Malice being apart of ganon's magic powers would explain him being able to infect the dragon naydra by basically placing a curse on it. He pretty much does very similar things to this in other games. Destroying large glowing eyes on enemies is a very common thing in the legend of zelda games, hell they even added them to the bosses in the Majora's mask remake.
    Substances similar to malice have been manipulated by other villains in the series such as Ghirahim in skyward sword using it to make inanimate objects like Koloktos and scaldera attack you. Vaati uses another similar substance to form a body made from what looks like malice with a giant eye in the center during his fight with link. Demises hatred reincarnated is ganondorf as stated by Eiji aonuma so it would also make sense that ganon would be able to control magic that focuses hatred and malice to curse hyrule.
    The sacred realm turned dark because it reflects the heart of whoever wields the triforce, and since ganondorf was wielding the triforce it reflected the evil in him.
    The malice also never seems to be a problem outside of the events of each game so if it were evolving and spreading then it's doing a very terrible job. Also once again eyes in zelda games being used as a weak spot is a very common thing.
    Malice just seems to be a tool for whichever villain shows up in the games since they are seen using it rather than the other way around.

    But the first phase of the Gannon fight, he was clever and knew tactics on how to fight. He wasn't just mindless there. Plus the same can be said for the 4 other bosses.

    In the 'Second Wind' mod for BotW, most of the "Stal-" enemies' skulls will reanimate after defeat, and when _they're_ killed, they drop Evil Cryatals! I still don't know what they're for yet, but it's still cool!!

    What if. Breath of the wild is the close to all timelines. Now assuming that it is the last game in the timeline so far. We know there is evidence of all three timelines in Botw. Perhaps this is because Botw is a bridge between all three. Hear me out. It may be the last game but it is still entirely possible that there are other pieces of the puzzle (meaning there are other games nintendo has yet to make) we are missing. The Rito are known to be evolved forms of the zora. Yet they coexist. My belief is that sometime before the events of botw. The gods or the hero or something created a 4th existence. A 4th world. They then proceeded to bridge the 3 timelines into this 4th world via portals. Now time travel is entirely possible in zelda and it's not unfathomable that the gods could somehow create bridges between timelines. So they create this 4th world, usher everyone from the 3 timelines into it, a lot like how they told everyone to move to mountains before flooding hyrule, creating the great sea and leading to wind waker. So now everyone coexists in this one world. They're reason for this? Well if the gods wanted Ganon to be destroyed once and for all, it would be prudent to make sure this happens in all three timelines. But that would be rather difficult. So instead you take all three timelines and bring the people from them into a new world. Now Ganon has given up on resurrection and is destroyed once and for all. And now we're left with a new threat. Malice.

      The title given to the Dark Beast (Malice Incarnate) suggests that there's nothing to free Ganon from. "Purifying" Ganon from Malice would be like trying to remove rust from a machine that has no real iron left in it.

    I believe that all of this is actually canon. If you watch the BOTW sequel teaser, you can see clear signs of Malice, especially with the skeleton (Possibly Demise?) reanimating with those slitted yellow-red eyes.

      I don't think it's Demise, it's likely just Ganondorf. The only real reason why I don't think it's Demise himself is because of the jewelry and tattered clothing bearing the Gerudo symbol.
