saw smithereens at largo florida july 2019 with marshal crenshaw. They sold out but the venue its so small their sound is loud and a tad distored. Not their fault good show. Please covid leave. its trying too.
I remember my dad took me to a smithereens concert when I was 7/8, the first concert I’ve been to. Around the end of the concert, the guitarist came up to me and let me strum his guitar and gave me his pick. I don’t know much about the smithereens, but that was the most treasured memory of my childhood.
Mark Reichenbach Crazy as it sounds, I’m damn near in tears watching this. That voice....THAT VOICE!....it’s been coming thru my speakers and headphones for almost 30 years. As a music fan, I seriously can’t remember any other artist that has passed that I truly felt it.....felt like I actually lost a close friend
@@rkline65 I got to spend 3 weeks at Pat's house in Scotch Plains, NJ while we were shooting his film King Leisure S.O.B. I knew Pat for more than 30 years and despite being on MTV and SNL he was always a regular guy from Jersey. I will forever love that man. RIP my king.
I didn't know that he had passed, I really loved his voice, I'm saddened at his passing, I loved all there music, especially A Girl Like You, RIP Pat I really appreciate you
Yeah but I'm guessing they didn't want any further fame because of the selling their soul for riches and fame. Lots of bands just mysteriously bowed out gracefully and The Smithereens were in that club. They're real.
I was in College 1985-89. These guys were one of my favorites. College alternative radio was the best back then. Pat clearly has nerve damage in right arm here. Never moves it at all. Shame he went so young. Take care of your bodies my friends.
@@MOUSAI_Melpomenesaw his mom in an interview, said he could never gain wt so he went to a doctor that put him on something then he couldn't stop gaining wt even when he stopped taking it. That led to diabetes etc, he fell at his house, then never recovered.
@@lt2339 interesting, Id never heard that before, about him taking a weight gain drug that never stopped making him gain. Scary if you think about it, like a curse.
I was lucky enough to see them in 2009 and got to meet them after the show, they were very nice people. What a great show. R.I.P. Pat, we love you all. ❤❤
She is old enough to know they are not a "little known band" lol Big part of my life in the 80's. RIP Pat. The Smithereens music will live on my heart and the hearts of millions. Thx.
WOW, watching this makes the loss even more raw and grating. Yes, THAT voice in a guy who was grounded, funny, sweet, and who embraced all his fans like old friends, as did (and still do!) his bandmate brothers. These are the reasons the Smithereens invaded our collective consciousness and took up permanent residence, resonating through our souls like a monastery bell ringing out the strains of truth. I sure hope Pat's making folks wherever he is now as happy as he did all of us...!
Pat’s voice was so cool. Still love this band’s songs. Saw them twice back the 90’s [-Pat played guitar back then]. Man they just burned down the house, right out of the gates. A perfect guitar rock band. Sounds great here. Cheers guys.
Such a happy, modest, and professional group of superstar musicians and entertainers. No gimmicks. Just straight up quality original bluesy rock. Timeless creativity that grabbed me from the first time I heard them in college in the 80s, and I never grew tired of their sound...and never will.
I saw them back in the late 80s in New Orleans when I was in high school. All ages show on a school night. It was a small venue. I took a girl that I really wanted to be with and we had a great time. At the time I lwas crazy about her and The Smithereens . Didnt work out with her but I will never forget this band. There music has never left me are the memory of that night.
One of my all time favorites. Saw them quite a few times during their heydays in the 80s and early 90s. Had a chance to see them this summer, but had a conflict with work. Great catalogue of music. Loved their Beatle tribute albums. Pat, you will be missed. Rest in Peace.
It's so awesome watching Jim Babjak play, he's got such a swagger to him that it looks like he could play the ax blind without skipping a beat. Guy's playing really is fuckin bad-ass!
Wow!! Now that is 100% pure concentrated rock and roll!!! Brings tears to my eyes. That band kicks butt in every way. Every musician on that stage is top notch and underrated. Thanks so much!!
Been a favorite band since they came onto the scene. For me they're the underground sound band that got a lot of air time in LA and SF. They got the urban sound that I like and best of the deep lyrics with a very '60s sound.
I loved and still love the smithereens, I saw them a few times in London in late 80's and Jimmy jumped into the crowd and I seem to remember they all swapped instruments mid-song !!!
Thank you for sharing this post! All these years that I've been so disappointed that I missed seeing my favourite band live and I find this! How they didn't become huge is beyond me! Again, thank you! So overjoyed seeing Pat!
Blood n Roses - the bass line you can never forget. One of my favorite bands back in the day. Did not know Pat DeNizio had passed. Damn, we are all getting old. RIP, sir.
0:35 - Behind the wall of sleep 3:58 - Top of the pops 8:40 - I'd like to say i'm sorry but I won't 12:16 - Only a memory 18:13 - Indigo Blues 24:40 - House that we used to live in 34:08 - Time and time again 38:31 - Blood and roses 45:57 - A girl like you
They were a big part of my life. I have introduced them to my kids and they love the "old" sounds. so happy to pass on what I listened to, to them. R.I.P Pat and thanks for the fantastic music that you gave us all.
I had to revisit the Smithereens for our 'quiet NYE in'. Vale Pat. Dee Why Hotel, 1990'ish, they played for about three hours, including a LOT of Zep & The Who when they ran out of their own songs :-) Still one of the best gigs ever.
Thanks for this. Miss these guys. So much great music and lyrics. That snare and drums and that guitar sound with that Bass is just epic. Not to mention PD voice. He’s gone but we got this. Thank you
What a great band. They lived up to their music and unlike a lot of bands sound just as good live as they did on their recordings. And Jimmy without using any effects always sounds excellent!
When I heard this live version of "Indigo Blues", my first thought was, "How did this tune not make it onto their greatest hits album?!". Awesome song & a nice change in pace in this setlist. :)
Pat is truly missed by myself! I absolutely love him & The Smithereens, having all of their music I've come across todate. I'm SO GLAD my son & I got to see him play in Easton, MD, shortly before he passed... Bugger Bill
This is absolutely KILLER tone! I dream of getting that sound. That’s not the wall of sleep, that’s a wall of rock. Pats voice came from deep in his soul and with Tele/marshall sound from Jim, OMG!!! So sad about Pat, this IS classic rock!!!!
I was blessed to hang with Pat for a weekend. and he was impressed and thought it hilarious that I sounded almost like him when I sang his songs ala Karaoke.. It's my way to keep your memory and spirit alive Broham.. You're missed every day as I roll my bike down the road,, and I'm singing along with you at max volume..
GREAT gig! Well recorded & awesome video work that captured the performance, but also the guys having tons of fun together while kicking butt on stage! I'm very thankful that PCTV shared this awesome performance! (every up-and-coming band needs to watch this to see how to entertain, connect with the crowd, and earn their keep!)
THANKS FOR POSTING THIS !! I was bummed I missed the show, & it was the best weather i could've asked for in July because it was in the 60's & cloudy. (as it was I had to have 2 more Mohs surgeries in 2016)
I had the pleasure of meeting Pat on three occasions. Once he played at a restaurant in Minnesota on the 50th anniversary of the death of Buddy Holly et al. He was one of the most polite, gentle, nice man I've ever met. R.I.P. Pat.
Saw them in Little Rock, AR on the "Date With The Smithereens" tour, and also saw them open for UB40 in Omaha, NE. ALSO 'heard' them in Charleston, SC by sitting outside of the venue when I wasn't old enough to get in. God bless The Smithereens.

Agree totally love Pats Voice. World class and among my top 5 singers
Pat DiNizio is such a great songwriter and performer. I will miss him now that he is gone. The Smithereens are one of our best bands.
Are you serious, these guys rocked I remember them well from the 80's Rest In Peace Pat DiNizio...love the music back then, and now
Pat's voice was amazingly strong, especially on Blood and Roses.
The Smithereens were awesome , a great rock band. They deserved more recognition

I saw them in a small theater back in the '80's. They blew us all away.
One of my favorite live podcasts on UA-cam. Love the Smithereens. Damn, do I miss Pat. Rest in peace brother.
That warm, simple, direct flow that gets at the very heart of rock n' roll.

Actually 4 and a vocalist. Everyone forgets about the keyboardist.
