Marie Fredriksson, my favourite vocalist. Nobody like her. Per Gessle was the other half of Roxette and wrote this song. They broke into the US with The Look, which went to No.1 on the Billboard, as did this song. I think It Must Have Been Love and Joyride were their other US No.1s. I hope you check out more from them. They made 10 studio albums between 1986 and 2016 but had a long hiatus after Marie fell ill with a brain tumour. She sadly succumbed to it in 2019 after a 17 year battle. I don't think the US paid much attention to them after the early 90s but they were still big elsewhere.
I am from San Francisco, but my mom was from Sweden. I lived in Stockholm for ten years. I had to learn language. I listened to Lisa ekdal Robert broberg peps person and a Solo album by Marie fredisckson. It helped me learn swedish. Abba of course. I really like Marie fredisckson. And I love Frida from Abba. Agneta faeltakog was the blonde and bjoern and Bennie
@stephansteohanlarsen7457 hi, which Marie album? I love her music so much. Marie and Frida did a song together called Alla Mina Bästa År. I love ABBA too!
She definitely had one of the most unique and beautiful voices I've heard. I just learned recently that she passed away and that was tragic all by itself, but learning of her struggles and the reason for her passing is gut wrenching! My favorite songs from Roxette are Fading Like a Flower and Joyride
@stephaniewade2973 yes, her voice was unique. I am a huge Roxette fan but Marie's solo music is my favourite. It's mostly all in Swedish but she did make an English language album, called The Change, after her initial recovery from the brain tumour. Her music was quite different to Roxette's style, and I think when she sang in Swedish she had an extra something that showed off her vocal abilities even more!
Great reaction Polo! Roxette is something special - as much as they definitely are late 80's, early 90's typical pop-rock, they have a certain sound that is infectious as anything. Marie Fredriksson's voice is incredible (RIP - gone WAY too soon), and Per Gessle's lyrics and music arrangements - catchy is an understatement. Loved this song from first release in '88. HIGHLY recommend: Things Will Never Be The Same (deep cut), Spending My Time, Fading Like A Flower, (Do You Get) Excited, Joyride, The Look...can't go wrong with any of those. Cheers.
Hi, they had already broke the US and has two, maybe three No.1 singles there before Pretty Woman, that's why they were asked to contribute a song for the film.
88-89, depending on where in world you were at time, the late Marie Fredriksson, and still living Per Gessle. She was a once in a generation voice and talent still very much under rated by music press. This song is also probably the most sampled of their tracks, even Eminem sampled the intro for one of his tracks.
This was one of my favorite songs when it came out. I was 9 or 10 years old! I already had eclectic taste in music. This tape, Twisted Sister, Guns N' Roses, Beastie Boys, Michael Jackson, Pat Benatar, Heart and Meatloaf! 😂😂
me too! now in my 40´s I still listen to them...now with nostalgia because they remember those times when I was a child and loved them all.. you forgot QUEEN! they also launched something this time...
This wasn't the early 80's this was 1988/89 - The height of rock music whether it was hard rock or soft rock. Roxette blended pop music with rock music especially back in the late 80's/early 90's ........ A very under rated band
Definitely a great & fair assessment of this jam… Everything was on point for this to be a classic pop rock ballad. I rock it in my Subaru quite often!
_Late_ 80's actually, the album came out in 1988. This song reached #1 on Billboard Hot 100, and three other songs by this duo did so too: The Look It must Have Been Love Joyride They had some other songs in the top 10 and even top 5 as well.
The Look & It Must Have Been Love are 2 other songs you should check out. Sadly Marie Fredriksson (the singer) died in 2019 after battling brain cancer for 17 yrs.
I have a pet peeve about the audience clapping along. lol. I know this song verbatim but I’ve never seen her, so that was fun. And a nice surprise to see David Bowie at the end!
This was 1988. This was the same year as Phil Collins' "A Groovy Kind of Love" Billy Ocean's "Get Out of My Dreams, Get Into My Car" The Beach Boys' "Kokomo" The Proclaimers' "500 Miles" Chicago's "I Don't Wanna Live Without Your Love" Paula Abdul's "Straight Up" Whitney Houston's "One Moment In Time" (Official Theme of the 1988 Summer Olympics) Bon Jovi's "Bad Medicine"
Thank you for doing this song! Roxette is another favorite of mine. Marie was a beautiful singer and person! Great song plus there are many more songs that are great! They worked so well together!!!! Rest in Peace Marie you are missed ❤❤
love it, it is what it is its 80s btw they have some great songs in the 80's they wore their hearts on theirs sleeves, they were the opposite of the 90's grunge negative (i love grunge just saying)
The power ballad champion of all time. And yea, Marie is probably the only woman i liked with thay hair, but whats wierd is that is just dont "like it" on her, she looks amazing in it. She looks very rock n roll but still very feminine. Its weird to explain, its lile she looks tough and gentle simultaneously. Which ofc iant possible... But its the best way I can describe it.
i f******* love Roxette, to me theyre top 5 pop bands of all time, still have all the original cassetes, "Pearl, The Look, Joyride" . RIP Marie. They were a really good band, its kinda sad today you only hear this and "It must have been love" . Where's "Spending my time"? :P
Such a shame you choose the playback version and not a "real live" version. But still.......... aaaaamazing song and band. Thinking she´s now with us anymore still breaks my hear. RIP Marie
This a really cool song from back in the day...Just for shits and giggles , if you have a minute check out Leo Moracchioli featuring Violet Orlandi...He does metal covers of pretty much any song....He plays all the instruments and collabs with some awesome talent like Violet... Also has an epic level sense of humor...I think you'll dig it , give it a shot bud...
Great content and reaction my friend and if you want to give your ears a special treat listen to the studio version of "Baby Love" by Mothers Finest.Joyce Kennedy's vocal will blow you away!
🎵Veronica Countdown! I used to watch this when I was a teenager. A popular Dutch music television program which was broadcast by the public broadcasting system Veronica from 1978 to 1994 in The Netherlands. Another music television program we all used to watch was of course TopPop presented by the legendary Ad Visser. Cheers and TC Polo! Keep 'm coming! Huge fan of the channel!🎶👍
@@GaryNoone-jz3mq No it's not from Australian "Countdown". (1974-1987) First of all This song is from 1988 album 🎶Look Sharp!🎶 Second, The song was released in 1989. Two years after your Australian version went off-air. Third, the logo is a dead giveaway. (Could've been added later...but it wasn't, sorry) Fourth, this video is taken from the 1980's top ranked music television program in all of Europe "Countdown!" itself. And last, but not least, David Bowie at the end of the clip: "Hi you're watching Countdown, EUROPE's number one show...". Have a nice day...mate🦘🦘🦘 (I'll get my coat)
Listen to the album version of this song, I'm pretty sure this performance was lip synced. Great song, but the "live performance" sounds too much exactly like the album version to be live. You can't hear her breathing.
Not the song by a female I would have recommended, but the vocals are superb. I only watched to encourage you to lean into the female artists more. But then your first comment is about her appearance. UGH
There are definitely times I noticed where it sounds like she cuts herself off mid note to start singing the next part, either shes inhumanly good at making that transition sound seamless or there was some prerecording going on
Everything is an earthly concern. No one should be made to feel guilty about sharing a preference no matter what the herd tells you. The third world btw sucks because of the same collectivist (leftist) forces that are now ruining the West.
I was never implying anything other than what I said. Anyone using my comment as an excuse for a personal attack on anybody is doing so completely off their own bat. Such attacks I find abhorrent.

@@BadMoonandStars yes I speak swedish. She's great
Swedish pop giants, She left us way to soon, tragic sad story. But Per, the guitar/writer is still going strong with tons of catchy pop songs.
So many Powerhouse rock singers in the 80/90's, she's def one of the Giants!
She’s our national treasure. Sadly we lost her in 2019 RIP Marie F 🇸🇪
Love this song, loved it then and still do. Her voice sells it.

This group was huge in Europe in the late 80s early 90s
1988 - Swedish rock band that made it big in US after their song ‘It must have been Love’ was on the soundtrack of the Pretty Woman movie.

R.I.P. Marie Fredriksson. You had a powerful voice.
This was one of my favorite songs when it came out. I was 9 or 10 years old! I already had eclectic taste in music. This tape, Twisted Sister, Guns N' Roses, Beastie Boys, Michael Jackson, Pat Benatar, Heart and Meatloaf! 😂😂
All good but Meatloaf's high register, and his beautiful operatic voice is so good!
me too! now in my 40´s I still listen to them...now with nostalgia because they remember those times when I was a child and loved them all.. you forgot QUEEN! they also launched something this time...
wasn't expecting you to react to this genre of music....good to see you recognize it as a solid song. The 80's has many gems
Thousands of gems. Golden era for pop music

Love that one !💔

Such a rememberable song. Her gritty voice is awesome. It reminds me of "Eternal Flame" by, The Bangles. Both are beautiful love songs.
This is why you should listen to studio versions! 😂
Always liked this song.
The music is beautiful. Her voice is magnificent.
You cant imagine how big these guys were back in the day.
Great song and Marie was attractive lady with amazing voice!

Music of my childhood. I highly recommend following up with their songs"
Call of the Wild.
Almost Unreal.
Yay, Marie Fredriksson, I love her!! ❤from Sweden
Interesting choice. I like how you mix it up. BeeGees, metal, pop.
Jane Child's ( Don't Want To Fall In Love) haircut was interesting.
I was a teenager when then song came out! 🤗✌️
They made a beautiful couple that was never a couple 😂
I'll stand by you by the pretenders
she was battling Breast Cancer, so glad she had some hair left, we didn't have the same treatment treatments back then 😢
She had a brain tumor in 2002 but this was 1988/89, so years before. She didn’t have breast cancer.
Such a loss of a great voice. She is missed.
If you liked this one listen their other hit “it must’ve been love”, another classic
Such a shame you choose the playback version and not a "real live" version. But still.......... aaaaamazing song and band. Thinking she´s now with us anymore still breaks my hear. RIP Marie
Marie Fredriksson...🥰
Check out their song "Joy Ride". It's the one I enjoyed when I was younger.

No one on SBTB looked like this lol. Zack maybe when they did that rock group episode.
You should react the real vídeo performance. Roxette is an amazing band
I like Joyride from this band
I actually like the Heart power ballads in the eighties... May not be fair to either, but I find them similar...
I’ve only ever heard the trance version of this song
Polo their other amazing song I know is “It must have been love” as far as 80’s goes you gotta love some Madonna and Michael Jackson I hope! 😊
Great content and reaction my friend and if you want to give your ears a special treat listen to the studio version of "Baby Love" by Mothers Finest.Joyce Kennedy's vocal will blow you away!

Roxette was great, not just their hit songs too, this was late 80s
You should try the song Dangerous by Roxette I think you will like it
