All of the 2D animation was done traditional animation at the time. But the stadium and some parts like the Moron Mountain planet and some effects like Stan being blown into balloon was done in CGI.
Being a kid in the 90s was a vibe! Who else was obsessed with collecting basketball cards and completely lost it when they got a hologram card? Pure magic back then!

I could burst from the excitement I felt for this movie! My dad took me to the cinema to watch it and afterwards we went to McDonalds and I had some toys from the movie with the Happy Meal! I was so inspired that I this was probabaly one of the biggest reasons I started drawing cartoon characters and comics after this and that has become my biggest passion in life up to this day! 😀🤩

They also went to a ton of work using gradient-style shading to make the 2D characters look more 3D, in order to interact with the live action characters. All of these elements had to be mixed with each other on equal levels.
Watched this so much on VHS as a kid. I grew up and I remember later seeing a bluray of this in a Walgreens bargain bin. I bought it without hesitation even though I didn't have a bluray back then.
