This was a very satisfying platinum to get. Being a massive fan of the OG, I remembered how to manipulate the endings, so I managed to get the platinum in 2 playthroughs. This was one of my comfort games growing up and would be in my regular rotation. I'm very happy with what Bloober achieved with this remake. Ito and Yamaoka returning from the original team was incredible as well. I'm really hoping for SH1 and SH3 to get similar remake treatment in the near future.
I’d love to play SH1 and SH3 aswell remade like this. I should have definitely got it in 2 aswell but so many minor mistakes cost me. Good to know OG fans and new can both appreciate the game
@HighMito317 Yes, the key to getting it in 2 is to do everything possible to earn the Maria Ending first as that has the strictest requirements. Now I'm remaining cautiously optimistic for a Born From A Wish add-on at some point, and I'm excited to hear the rest of this new soundtrack at the end of November when it releases 😁😅
@finnyyy- Yeah, I know they did 2 since it was self-contained and had Pyramid Head the most recognized creature of the series. But now that this one has been received so well, I feel like SH1 and SH3 at least have very strong chances of being the next ones. I'd love to see SH1, especially with the same treatment.
John, you mention this is your first Silent Hill game, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Welcome to the coziest town in horror fiction, please enjoy your stay. "You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave"
Another fun tip for players - especially if you've played the original SH games: you can disable button interaction prompts, so that you no longer get those little circles when you can interact with something. During my first run I had these turned off. It means manually clicking a bit more (like on drawers and cupboards), but any of the key items such as puzzle pieces, ammo boxes, health items, and even notes are designed to be visually obvious by themselves, and interact with the flashlight differently. It's totally playable like this, and quite fun, though admittedly I did miss a handful of optional notes. My second play through is with button prompts on (NG+, shooting for Rebirth ending), and I'm glad I played it once without them because it felt more like the original, and added to the immersion, forcing me to actually search the areas carefully, which I enjoyed. Not everyone will like this kind of play style, but I'm so happy that it's an option.
This is how I did my first playthrough too. I had combat on hard, puzzles hard, no hud, and no interactions and it was a lot of fun but was very punishing on hard combat as I started to feel I was missing a lot of pick ups through out the game being so short on heals and ammo. I spent most of my run in low health status as a result lol. Needles to say I got the in water ending but it was a ton of fun and I just started ng+ with hud on and easy combat and puzzles and I definitely missed a lot xD
For new players to this game, if you've been watching videos that show gameplay and been put off by the giant red jelly border when James is wounded, don't worry, you can disable it in the menu. James' health can also be gauged (quite effectively) by paying attention to at least one these three things: James' posture (as he gets more wounded, he begins limping more and more extremely), the blood on James' back (this is a more nuanced gauge, with a lot of variety, and I've found it to be the most accurate. It will show you if you're even wounded a tiny bit, and as you get more wounded, the amount of blood increases gradually), and the controller light indicator (if playing with a PS5 controller - this works on PC as well when using a PS5 controller. The light is green when he's fully healed and gradually changes to yellow, orange, and red as he gets more wounded). I hate the red jelly border, so I turned it off right away.
The game gives so much free health idk why so many lets play streamers insist on doing playthroughs with the red border. The only thing they're doing is increasing the chance of getting the bad ending
Oh snap I didn’t know that, that would have been really handy to know as its quite off putting when you immediately lose a little bit of health and the screen is covered red. I appreciate the lack of HUD but there should have been a different way of conveying the health level
@@JohnCalum There is a different way. You can look at the back of James’ jacket. If it has dark red stains it means he has damage. If he starts limping then it means he is at critical health
I’m an OG SH2 fan btw it’s my favorite game ever and I think this remake is a perfect first entry into the series. I don’t think new players would have nearly as much of an issue with the intensity of the combat encounters because they’re not comparing it to the original. OG fans also already know Silent Hill 2 and take it for granted, so they’re less appreciative of all the amazing Silent Hill-ness packed into this game. I have been watching new players get into this game and have the same sense of awe and emotional reaction to it that I did when I first beat the original and I think that’s what matters. Both versions do different things better and I honestly think there is no wrong one to play first
Yeah its really nice to know that OG fans and new fans like me both like it in the same and different ways, definitely keen to play the original at some point too.
You can manipulate the base game endings right before the double pyramid head fight (or immediately after) by examining the photo/letter or knife repeatedly
(Edit: This only works if your “ending scores” are close based on the code for the endings which someone posted on Reddit.) If you want Maria ending it’s tricky because you have to balance the leave and in water endings so Maria takes precedence which is tricky because the math is invisible
@ actually not necessarily, sorry guys! I read the conditions for the endings in the code that someone posted on reddit. If your ending scores are close you can swing them but otherwise you have to start from earlier in the game
OMFG man I think I ended up getting 50 of my 68 deaths in that last fight! I was sooo low after the double pyramid head fight and immediately started searching for health in the Mary fight but of course couldn't pick anything up. I eventually had to lower the difficulty from hard down to normal to finally beat her because of that crap. What hurts the most though is the devs patched out that issue not more than a couple hours after I beat the game. Thank god I saved before the pyramid heads though...someday ill go back and redo it. Great video!
Damn they patched it? now not everyone will have the same frustrations we did 🤣 Well done on doing everything up to that on hard though, it was just bad game design more than anything for that fight. Thanks for watching!
It doesnt give anything if you beat the game in hard. Until Mary bossfight i didnt take any damage and never spent healing items through the whole game in hardest difficulty, never changed or touched it through the game.
One of the best games ever made when I played it back in high school in early 2000s. Bloober nailed it on this one. SH1,2,3,and 4 were the best silent hill games of all time And I hope they do more remakes! The trophies were fun in this game! But the endings trophies were the trickiest ones to get, specifically maria. The collectibles were the most nerve wreck too in this game. More than any other game, because you cannot use chapter select or free roaming to get miss collectibles, like most other games. Got my platinum yesterday 🏆. Good job on the plat too 👊🙌
I thoroughly enjoyed it yeah it was a great experience, I’d love to play some of the others especially with bloober remaking them too. Completely agree on both of that though the endings and the collectibles drove me nuts and made it so much longer for me. Thanks for the kind words and congrats to you too 🙌
Just finished the game last night. Can’t wait to start the Platinum grind. Also I got the “faster than fog” achievement, even tho I finished the game in 25 hours lmao.
@@harlowsvideos3992 I never took it as Angela burning down the hotel. That is just how Angela perceives the otherworld or how the town makes her see it. Everyone experiences it different in some way.

It’s funny enough I beat the game by just using a pistol and steel pipe. Since my natural instinct is to shoot the knees and and then come swinging with the pipe, it made most encounters easy and help conserve ammo for more important fights. Although I wouldn’t recommend this strategy for big crowds of enemies ( either the same enemy type or mix enemies) cuz it can and will put you in a tough spot. Side note I didn’t know that first puzzle in the blue creek apartments would lead you into a certain ending , I was just thinking logically that the man with the sword was responsible since he struck first and the snake was just acting on nature instinct I didn’t know that detail til I saw this video
Yeah I can see that, its alot like the combat of the kicking in Resi 4 in that way. Nice way of saving ammo. And yeah its one of the factors that changes the endings according to some guides and it definitely made a difference for me on my third playthrough!
I got the “In Water” ending on my first play through. Didn’t look at Maria’s knife during the game, not even once, and I barely ever allowed myself to walk with low health.
Just fyi, u definitely can still get different endings. Reload the save before the double pyramid fight and adjust the point system. I always say play the game like u are going for the Maria ending and save before the 2 pyramid fight and u should be able to get all endings that u can get with new game and do the same with new game plus. I literally only did 2 full playthroughs (new game and new game plus) and just reload the save. It's more about know what counts as points and to which ending. There is a video done by Neon Slice that he installed a mod and was able to officially find out what counts for points and to which ending and he lists everything u can do for each ending and how to get all endings in 2 playthroughs
I tried it on my first and second playthroughs but no matter what I did I couldn’t change the endings. It was only on the third going for Maria i was then able to manipulate them thats why, think I did too much wrong in the first two
When the things that walk on the other side of the floor fence scream you need to wait a second until you hear the tentacle. If you dodge right then its fairley easy to avoid them
Unfortunately I don’t think I’m going to get the platinum because I don’t want to get the other endings I’m busy with other games & life😂 loved this game, though. Got 3 endings & also my first SH game
You can shoot the balloons and the item on the roof in the hotel without fcking up not shooting trophy (how ever its worded) you just can't kill any enemies.
I like that you used the wrong cinematic for completing the hangman puzzle Also, I like that neither of the new endings are needed for platinum, but I am sad that you did not get either of them.
I never played the og version of it but i did watch my oldest brother playing it. Ngl, really loved pyramid head and he qas the only monster that made me scared but smiling towards him 😁😅😁 about 2 or 3 years ago, i decided to create a movie idea of Silent Hill, i had feq bumps on it, kept rethinking it and changing it, and after i told my whole family about every scenes and actions, they got scared and it ruined their high moments or their meals 😅 i kind of stopped coming up every scenes or actions of Silent Hill up to four movies of it. Mostly worked up to 3 and kind of worked on 4 and gave up. My whole family loved my version of Silent up to 3. No matter how much i asked, "on many of my movie ideas, which did you like the most?" Each and every single one loved my Silent Hill version 😅
I did not even noticed there was health and ammo in the last boss fight, now I understand the title of the video, the endings are easy to get, the problem is the lack of guides. I got 'under the water' in my first play then I run a NG+ where I collected the new endings items while doing everything for Maria and worked fine, I think your problem was rushing through the game.
Yeah I definitely missed alot on my first playthrough, I didn't explore much because I knew I would later on. Hence the lack of items and ammo. I also did it pretty early on when there weren't any proper guides which added to it.
i understand that your statement about how you forge the ending is stupid was uttered out due to frustration, but this is a core mechanic that really shows the game's character and depth. Since you control James, you are making decisions on his behalf. In example, neglecting James' health means he does not care whether he lives through the events of the game, hence the "In Water" ending where he kills himself. So it makes sense, to me, that no matter how many times you play the game, if you make the same choices you'll get the same ending. It kind of feels like a loop where you have to change something in order to advance.
I can understand that it was more after doing it twice and not getting it that was frustrating, now I'd put it down to the guides giving wrong information at the time
In the original game ,you see what pyramid head was doing to those mannequins and another scene where he's getting head from one of the walking clit creatures.the remake toned it down😢and the staircase of fire scene felt a bit more impactful and you can stay in the room . Maria is feels kinda flat in some scenes especially the "anyway"line .the rest of the game is ok.

Although this is also my first Silent Hill game and I only have the UFO ending left for the Platinum (just speedrunning the game, but taking a break since I just before got both the Maria and Stillness endings (doing both remake endings as well for completion) along with all memos and glimpses trophy). But I became a fan of the franchise years ago when I saw the Silent Hill movie (not revelations. That sucked) and apparently they're making a sequel with the director of the first movie (the one that made me a fan) which I'm excited for. I was also looking forward to PT, but Konami decided to cuck us. At least. This is easily top 3 horror games for me along with Corpse Party and Resident Evil Village (not a fan of Zombies so Biohazard and Village are the only ones that interest me, but I have a strong bias for Vampires and Werewolves making it win out). I also enjoy the dark pictures games though I've only played Until Dawn, Man Of Medan and Little Hope (Man Of Medan is my least favorite and Little Hope is my favorite). I also got Dead Space with PS+ a while ago so will check it out some day as well. I have of course played others as well, but I think that's enough rambling. What would your top 3 horror games be?
If you wanna get into classic silent hill, play the first four games and STAY AWAY from the rest. Some people like them but it's basically bad fanfiction made by people who don't understand silent hill
Lol, I had the exact same issue and reaction during the final boss fight. Love the game and its a masterpiece apart from this bit! Couldn't pick up any resources for the life of me.
I'm sorry, I finished it last night and it was such a feeling of I wasted my time. The story was just a bad, I'll say it. So the town that every character finds themself in is a horror landscape of their own nightmares, got it and love it. They cross paths at random times drawing their own conclusion (finding their own ending) of dealing with trauma or falling into madness, Ok. The old gods have demons that represents these past traumas (Angela with her father and the lip bosses with James and Maria). I get Eddy falls to madness and we don't need to see his battles, but the Old Gods of Silent Hill give mercy to Lura just because she's a little girl? Angela was a victim as well as Lura but Lura never faces anything traumatizing. Unless she a figment of James's mind, but then how did Eddy and her come into contact and have a cutscene together? Then there is the 'rebirth' ending which starts putting stuff together, Marry is dead and James is in a loop, he knows this by instinctlly picking up what is needed to resurrect Marry on the island. Similarly with the 'Bliss' ending, where James's drugs himself to get a happy ending where he does not remember him killing Marry. So the only way the game has you break the loop is the 'leave' ending where you take Lura away from S.H (or leave with Maria). Lura is dead by Mary's letter, she would have turned 8 three years ago so I James also dead? A unsatisfied ending and a disappointing ending are not the same thing. Great endings can be unsatisfying but not disappointing ones. I do not hate people that see the quality in this story, I just ask someone to help me see it as more than "over over over used symbolistic up to the high of the beholder".
Did you do the platinum of the OG? No. That is the nightmare. Not this. Like really get the port for the final enhanced edition not the official release and play the pc variant. It is different enough and better in some aspects, combat not included.
I had to laugh at James happily getting his hands all inside the toilet, but that boss room syringe was too much for him
He’s a man of specific tastes
then he touches Maria with that hand

@JohnCalum go for it, great game which is why I tried so hard to keep my comment short.
This Video was so Great 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks bro 👊
So like I heard there's a dodge button in this game. I heard it's useful for dodging things you don't want to hit you. Hope this helps.
I'm excited for Silent Hill 3 remake
Me too
You can shoot enimes in the legs then hit them with the bat to save ammo
I’ve never heard of this JohnCalum
what a clown
Who’s gonna tell him there is technically one more ending. The stalemate ending.
Not all endings are needed for the platinum
I like that you used the wrong cinematic for completing the hangman puzzle
Also, I like that neither of the new endings are needed for platinum, but I am sad that you did not get either of them.
Wow through out most of game i had around 30 health drinks and like 20 syringes and 200 ammo of all guns each
I did not even noticed there was health and ammo in the last boss fight, now I understand the title of the video, the endings are easy to get, the problem is the lack of guides.
I can understand that it was more after doing it twice and not getting it that was frustrating, now I'd put it down to the guides giving wrong information at the time
Spooky tiiiime
👻👻 On theme
The 2 joke endings are great there the dog ending and the UFO ending
They are
I know a bit late to the Party ,but but nurses (and others) quite easily By shooting them in the knees ,so they Trip and the melee them.
7:00 "Whack the fucker" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hey buddy 😊 just letting you know there's actually a button to make your character dodge 🤪 haha, might've come in handy lol 🤣
Just 3 runs, and platinum is mine 🤷♂️
Nice man, good luck with everything
16:52 I used the rifle to shoot their hands. They fall and die.
Hey mate just to let you know there’s a button that makes your character dodge. Thought I’d let you know
Is late but nurses, both variants, take 4 shots to the head with the handgun on standard difficulty
I noticed that on later playthroughs yeah
bro did a 0 dodge run
whats your next platinum going to be John?
Currently making my way through a challenge video, whats yours?
@@JohnCalum Secret Agent Clank screw those god awful Rhythm based sections even with the Save States they feel impossible to complete you have to be one of the fastest trophy hunters in the world i've never seen you go this fast
This is also my final silent hill game
How'd you find it?
@@JohnCalum it was amazing experience it was so creepy and terrifying even though I had a lot of resident evil experience I still was not mentally prepared
I've heard of this game before...
hell yeah
Maria’s ending is the lamest ending possible in the game.
The one least guilty? I took the one who was the most guilty. Damn
@@Tedfranss00 Thats at least how I understood it, could be completely wrong hahaha
21:30 😂😂😂
I'm a huge Resident Evil fan but not played many other horrors, Alien Isolation is the only other one that would be up there for me
Hell yeah dude
hope you enjoyed watching the whole video rene
@JohnCalum I already did
@@renerivera9715 did you enjoy the shoutout?
@JohnCalum yes
Every attack in this game is avoidable... Except the scream (from two monsters), but every other is! It is actually a skill issue
this game has a dodge button
bro how many hours did you put in for the platinum in total
I think it was about 20-25 but should have been way less.
If you wanna get into classic silent hill, play the first four games and STAY AWAY from the rest. Some people like them but it's basically bad fanfiction made by people who don't understand silent hill
Haha noted
13:13 yes! YES MARIA! shes the only 1 i hate. too bad she comes back amh lmao
Lets goooo
🙌
W video
@@itsmaz7953 🤝
Lol, I had the exact same issue and reaction during the final boss fight. Love the game and its a masterpiece apart from this bit! Couldn't pick up any resources for the life of me.
I’m glad I’m not the only one, everything was pretty okay up until that point!
FIRST 🎉
Using that privilege 🐐
Hey did you know there was a dodge button? lol
No Tom. Never pressed that button a single time in my four playthroughs. 👍
@@JohnCalum Hey man I was just being cheeky. A lil roast, if you may.
This guy looks and sounds like sebby
You did had skill issues 😂
i refunded as i was stuck on 47 fps no matter the setting
Well la-di-frickin-da
Dude none of these attacks are unavoidable you just don't dodge. I died only once in my first playthrough
Why didn’t you dodge? 😂
No dodge run in 4 playthroughs
Did you do the platinum of the OG? No. That is the nightmare. Not this. Like really get the port for the final enhanced edition not the official release and play the pc variant. It is different enough and better in some aspects, combat not included.
Nightmare has more than one meaning
you are so bad at games, your whineing about dying over and over why dont you heal? i had 40 health drinks and 20 syringes on my first playthough
👍
What? no it isn't. This was one of the easier games to platinum lmao. Clickbait garbage. Guess I'm the dummy that fell for it.
@@BaldingSasquatch if you watched the video you would know the title is about the ending where I had to replay it 4 times because of collectibles 👍
