thank you so much for this video. this game has lived in my head since I played Dark Savior at my friend's house 29 yrs ago. Couldn't remember the name until recently. The different parallels were super mysterious and intriguing. the story setup was thrilling. the platforming horrendous especially bc timed sections depend on it. Dark Savior is such a ambitiously unique oddity that was forgotten to time. thanks again for the video.
Damn there's so many people that have never heard of this game . This was back when playing video games was not considered cool and you were kinda weird if you liked games in general.
I have this in my ever-expanding backlog and hadn't gotten to it yet. This video is much appreciated! The game's super interesting for the time and I'm a sucker for branching routes, but if/when I get to it it's gonna be a 1-timer. That castle looks miserable.
Unfortunately, on every emulator I’ve tried, the game gets stuck on the first voiced section in the ruins , so I’ve never been able to properly replay this. Back in the day I thought the multiple parallels were pretty cool.
"Even more ideal is using an analog controller which is compatible with Dark Savior and allows you to control the camera with the analog stick while still being able to move with the d-pad. It’s by no means a perfect solution and can feel restrictive, but it’s still a welcome addition that more early 3D games with fixed camera angles like this could benefit from. "
It sounds like the issue with the writing is probably down to localisation right? If the narrative design is good but the dialogue isn't. The processes for translating Japanese games back then was often done by folks who didn't have the best context for what they were translating - they'd probably just get a list of text boxes to translate and wouldn't always even know when or where they'd be used
I'm a huge Saturn fanboy and lived through the pain of the generation at the time. I believe the Saturn has more interesting and visually appealing games than Playstation. I love the system and how people nowadays are surprised and entertained by the library to this day. Sega are forever in my heart until my dying day. But they are crap at marketing their products. Obviously we've all moved on since the 90's lol but I stuck with Saturn as it slow died in the UK. The official Saturn Magazine in the UK was so well written it gave the system a small and loyal fan base they kept the system going for a bit. I didn't get a Playstation until 1998. Just to give you an idea of how much of a fanboy I am. Dark Savior is a great but frustrating game. I enjoyed it but it was challenging to me. I was 16 at the time. I would like to revisit it. But the backlog is strong lol. The Saturn did indeed have a 3D Control Pad which had an analog stick. Mainly designed for the game NiGHTS Into Dreams it ended up being compatible with many racing games and had surprising compatibility with games released prior to the release of the controller. The classic six button configuration of the Saturn pad is my favourite layout and controller of all time. To the point where I have an official usb Saturn controller for Switch/PC which I use for 'almost' all my games. Grateful for your review of the game and for highlighting a Saturn game. Happy to see the Saturn is touching future generations. I hope either you or your Discord finds another Saturn game of note for you to enjoy. I recommend Bulk Slash, Grandia and Baroque. They have amazing presentation that holds up and are easy to control with the standard Saturn controller. All the best with you and the channel. Hope the algorithm treats you well!

This was one of my favourite games for the Saturn!

How have I never heard of this?!
Saturn library is much deeper than I thought
It has more gsmes than the neogeo, n64 and pc engine put together. Yes, all regions

This game is so cool! Such a unique style!
Really want to deep dive in to unity and try to re-create it
rented this several times always wanted to finish it.

Saturn has an analog controller. Not sure if it works with this game though.

@mmpsp693 No wayyyyy!
Dark Savior has flaws but its still really cool. no one talks about this game thanks for covering it.

Where do you find these games 😂
It's a pretty well known Saturn game
