  • Pinto Beans Recipe:
    1 pound of dry pinto beans
    2 pounds of smoked ham hocks
    Onion powder, garlic powder, seasoned salt, pinto bean seasoning (to taste)
    Prepare and soak beans; set aside. Simmer ham hocks on low for about two hours. Add prepared beans to ham hocks and season (do not add salt until beans are tender). Simmer beans and ham hocks for about 3 hours, stirring occasionally. When ham hocks are tender, remove meat from the bones and place back into bean pot. Continue simmering for another hour or until beans are tender.

    Takes me back. I swear my Granny made pinto beans and cornbread once a week when I was growing up. Then we had the leftovers the next day. She cooked hers with hunks of salt pork. It was always my job to sort the beans and pick out the rocks. 😊

      When I was growing up it felt like my mom made beans once a week too, lol! I'm sure she didn't, but I remember not enjoying them as much. As an adult, I love them and realize inexpensive and delicious they are. I've never tried beans with salt pork. I used it with greens before. I might try salt pork with beans next time. Thanks so much for sharing and watching! ~Andrea

      Hi Lisa! I hope you and your husband enjoy this version of pintos too. If you’re in Texas, you can find the seasoning at HEB. If not, I’ve also seen it at Walmart and Kroger but I’m not sure if that brand is regional. If you can’t find it, don’t worry your beans will still be delicious with your choice of seasonings. • @FoodamentaryAdventuresinFood
      @FoodamentaryAdventuresinFood  Рік тому

      My husband and I try to watch our sodium too. I have to be honest, pinto beans really need salt. They won’t be as flavorful at all. However, if you’re used to no salt you may not notice in these beans. The meat has some salt and may provide enough flavor for you. Thanks for watching! ~Andrea
