- Went to the Dave Thorpe Honda Adventure Centre back in March 2018 for 2 days (only got 1 days footage) in the Exmoor National Park.
Instructors were brilliant and the bikes were great fun off road!
Would totally go back again and can't wait to have another go of the Africa Twin!!

I am happy to see you having fun with AFRICA TWIN
With love from the country that produced AFRICA TWIN!
in brazil and india also produce africa twins :D
@@cobecerram do they produce complete bikes or just parts ? TY
I must’ve watched hours and hours of motorbikes reviews on UA-cam but this is the most objective, well presented review I’ve ever watched. King regards from Barcelona!
T.,
Looks like all of you guys had fun. Nice looking bikes all of them. Keep up the good work.
La mayor parte de los que te adelantan acaban en el barro, tu conduces de una forma más correcta para ese camino de barro, mis felicitaciones, disfruta de tu Africa Twin!
Awesome trails and that would be a great learning experience! ✌🏻🇨🇦
I'm a gs rider, and regularly go off road, loving the mud. Excellent video looks like lots of fun 👍👍
Thanks Gary. It was great fun even though I was miles from my comfort zone! Can't wait to have my own adventure bike! XD
So... "Dead bodies" of Africas all over the place and you were the only one that kept on going...? You 're either a great rider or some really lucky guy...😜 I truly envy that adventure of yours mate. Thanks for sharing...
Great vid , it’s on my bucket list as an Africa twin rider in the south west , to get over to Honda off road. Looks like the chap in front of you was having a hard day!
Gas it carry some speed and momentum and keep the front tire floating. Oh that's right when riding a 600lb. Pig on slicks this may not be the best policy. I want one. But when its time to ride in the slop I'll opt for a proper dirt bike with knobbies. Almost felt bad for the little guy on the red bike or maybe sorrier for his buddies. Looked fun. Hope the fella on the red bike bought the BEER that night.
That looks like fun
It was great fun and also very nerve wracking. I will be doing it again with Triumph next year! :)
Is the area open to all traffic or closed land? Looked absolutely epic!
Would not want to tackle any of that on anything more than my klx250 (shod w/ AC10s). Why? Because I don't like heavy things falling on me - nor am I that into lifting them either.
And here is the conundrum, 80/20 tires, 50/50 tires, 60/40 tires... If the mud is deepand sloppy enough then motocross tires would do well but anything else is sketchy.
Here you have the feeling that only the filmmaker had the right tire and experience.
The equipment is the most important in off-road driving. You can do that with almost any motorcycle
I didn't do too bad for my first time off road! lol
Unfortunately this tyre is not the best for these conditions. If you do the same route with Bridgestone AX41 or Michelen Anakee Wild you will notice the difference.
Looked pretty tricky in places - hard to ride in such slippery conditions - bet that honed the skills. Definitely looked more confident as the vid went along. Must do some rider training myself at some point :)
It really was. I didn't find it too difficult to be honest but the conditions there wouldn't get any worse than that. I'm doing a triumph tiger day in a couple of months so I'll be releasing a video for that! 😎
@@Twedymoto Sounds great:)
Top
The place is incredible but backbreaking in those conditions
Man that was slippery 😅 I d say you were asking a bit too much to the karoo 3 on what looks like clay :) well done though, surely not super easy
It was hard going! The first day was more forestry trails but the second day (the video) was a slop fest! somehow i was the only one that didn't get stuck or fall off!!
That is some outstanding meat! Sometimes you just need to get out there and get your a$$ kicked to have a real good time! Well done!
been there done that that bike is not easy to handle in very muddy situation
Great fun but what tyres did you have on there?, they looked far too road orientated to cope with the mud
They were the Metzeler Karoo tyres. they have tried many for off and on road and found these to be best. IMO they coped really well and it's not very often the mud is that extreme. :)
Are these the DCT versions or standard? If DCT, how do you like them vs standard for off roading?
The bike I used was manual but they did have DCT bikes there too. I didn't have a go on one but i noticed from watching the guys who had dct that when you can't really slip the clutch, when the wheel started spinning the clutch was ether engaged or not. It looked a little trickier to me but they did manage to do everything there!
You must almost be an expert at picking up that Red Bike. Credit where its due its harder than it looks
That wasn't even half the amount of times he was off/stuck. Day 1 was hard and those last 2 were spectacular. Lol. It was hard but loved it, can't wait to do that again!
I still think I'll cry the first time I drop my new 1290 in the mud. haha
I dropped my new Husky when it was 2 days old. Glad I got it out of the way!! LOL
Is there a curse on the red Africa Twins or something? Your comrades keep dropping the red Africa Twins.
It was pretty much the same person every time 😂
Looks like good fun. Were these the companies bikes or ye're own. Can't believe they weren't fitted with better crash protection if they are going to be dropped on a regular basis. Made me cringe a few times. Well that's what they were built for I guess. I'll stick to touring on mine for a while yet with very light off roading.
The bikes belonged to the adventure centre. I think Honda give them the bikes for 6 months/a year then just sell them on!! The crash bars were the Honda ones I believe. They have a bit of give in them so they absorb some of the crash. They were tried and tested and the bikes themselves didn't take any damage! Would love to go touring on one :)
@@Twedymoto Good stuff! Fitted mine with Heed uppers & Bumot bash guard. Dropped her 3 times & no damage except bent bars (easy fix)
I'd love to try something like this just for something different
It's great fun mate. I had a shot at the NEC bike show and that gave me the itch and it needed to be scratched! Lol
@@Twedymoto I'm thinking about picking up a cheap enduro bike for some off road fun
Ive got a trials bike that id like to take somewhere to Dick about instead of rolling on and off pallets in my field. Lol
What tires were you using?
They were metzeler karro3.
Just trying to stay up on those big tanks, much funner to be on a lighter bike with knobby tires. You be hauling ass and having fun as soon as you're trying to stay up.
That would make it too easy and take the fun out of it! lol
@@Twedymoto okay, if that's your kind of fun, rock on bro
Is that the new “Grandma” mode ??
You all would see my back, with my NX 250 :) :) :)
What tires are you using in the video?
They use MEtzeler Karoo 3 on all their bikes.
poor bikes!
You can legally drive over those roads?
Honda adventure centre had permission from the land owners to use it 👍
@@Twedymoto alright, very nice
What tires were you guys using?
They were Metzeler Karoo 3. They had tested quite a few and found that was the best tyre for what they were doing!
Спину и ноги надо качать(поясницу и квадрицепсы). Каждый раз стоять и ждать кто тебе твой поднимет - это стремно. Ну а Африка как всегда супер,даже если райдер иногда боится ехать.
What was Honda thinking putting those tyres on there for a bike meant to spend 60% of the time offroad? ./facepalm
Bei dieser Matsch viere Reder mussmsn schon haben .
Why not DCT?
They had a few DCT bikes available but I prefer manual.
@@Twedymoto I see thank you so much!
DCT ALL THE WAY !! THEN YOU WOULD BE MOVING !! CHEERS.
@@brianharrigan8821 dtc is for handicapped ppl manual for the win

..о.......
Must be nice dropping someone elses bike!
A few people that went there all had the mindset of "it's cheaper to do this than drop my own bike!" These bikes took an absolute beating and all that was broken was the bent brake lever on that last drop in my vid!! :)
That’s ridiculous. Those bikes aren’t made for that. So you rode a 500lb bike thru the mud slow. Whoopie.
Nice vid, but no fun in slippery shit
Typical boggy uk crap lol
Was soll der Mist mit den Straßenreifen ....wie dumm sind die Leute ...?!
Is the area open to all traffic or closed land? Looked absolutely epic!
It's private land that only the centre have access to unfortunately.
