    I just came home from the hospital due to high blood pressure, was dizzy and nauseous. Currently dealing with nerve issues, unable to sleep in my own bed, due to thighs "being on fire". Sleeping in tall chair, little nerve issues, but deal with edema. Currently was accepted to a program that will assist with recliner/hospital bed, home delivered meals, and most importantly, a personal care assistant which allows me to get out of the house. I use my affected side every day, and continue to work on my speech and vision/coordination issues. Use it or lose it!!!

They didn’t expect me to live but here I am! I am so thankful to my neurosurgeon but it is very hard to keep a positive attitude all of the time. I am very fortunate to have a wonderful husband who is very supportive but sometimes he just doesn’t understand how hard it is! This happened December 24, 2023 so only 5 months ago!

      thank you for the reply ! Having never made a comment there was just something true and honest in your information. I’m an American stroke victim in France. I would be sent to a wonderful clinic that was wonderful to me because of its various staff both physical therapists (kiné) and occupational therapist (ergonomics) and voice therapy. Each person was quite special to me but the recovery process has been a very slow one. Spent more than six months living and re-educating there then about another five month three days a week day program that didn’t feel it progressed me as well but now with a private three days a week young physical therapist he seems to have many of the advice that you present as the old clinic did as well “why can’t I wear a brace like they are?” They would explain how they wanted to get me back closer to how I was. My current physical therapist is all about getting out there and reclaiming your life. Videos like yours really have a similar tone that makes me feel it will one day be possible! Again my thanks to you for all of the help you share with your followers. ❤

It basically opens and closes my hand all fingers at once I use e stem on different areas as well to get muscle movement,am I doing the right things to get function back? I'm 4 months post stroke. Walking with a quad cane leg is getting stronger but only feels natural walking holding a rail on my ramp which is 90 foot I wear a afo how long should I continue to wear it ? Is it hindering progress? Came back to edit still pretty much the same balance is better still using cane,arm still not much there , I'm putting it all in Jesus hand tried all the workout stuff 1000s of reps little improvement time to let the Lord heal me

    I work in home health physical therapy with the geriatric population. So many patients are frustrated and depressed post stroke and I understand that. What I can't understand is not realizing a good home exercise program is critical for progress. Sometimes it is like pulling teeth to get someone to participate, let alone perform any exercises on their own. I have worked with people who are still in a WC many years later b/c they never took the time to take care of themselves after their stroke. So sad.

    • @PostStrokeOrg
      @PostStrokeOrg  Місяць тому +2

      @cinnamongirl3070 I've worked in home health as well. It's very much a two-edged sword. When someone is frustrated and depressed, it's hard for them to want to engage in exercises that will help them. If they're depressed, at that point in time, may not want to get better. What they don't realize is that not acting now has consequences later, but it can be difficult to encourage them in the midst of a depressive episode.
      We SHOULD incorporate mental health care in with physical rehab after something as traumatic as a stroke or brain injury. Unfortunately, our system is just not set up that way. We need to do what WE can as rehab therapists to address BOTH the physical and mental aspects of rehab in order to be most effective ❤️
