The Funk Brothers and Edwin Starr killed it. Uriel Jones on the drums.
One of the greatest drums performances ever!
True indeed
I saw Edwin Starr perform many times from the 70's in the UK until he sadly passed away in 2003. What a great voice!
One of the highlights of my career and life was to dance with Edwin Starr backstage at one of his gigs. He had myself and a few other crew doing the Temptation shuffle, watch the Temptations to see the moves. He invited me on stage to photograph the crowd while he encouraged them to wave for my camera. I stayed on stage taking his photos and afterwards we talked, laughed and shared some amazing stories, what a legend he was. Not just a humble true gent but a legendary performer.
We sure had some great music back then you would love dancing in the streets by Martha and the vandellas
Another great, vastly underrated song.
I think BJ might like this one as much as I do!! This has been a song that I have never forgotten through the years. Another great reaction, you two! You might like Edwin Starr's "War" as well.
One of the ole road songs. You go, Edwin. "...over the hill just around the bend". Yep. We had the best sounds. Thanks.
Great music from back in the day. Thanks Asia and Bj. Great reaction! Appreciate you 🙏 ❤
We had THE BEST MUSIC EVER in my generation! It makes me so happy to see y'all experience the bedrock of modern popular music and love it!!!
Such a great song and fun watching you guys groovin out! Love this song and glad you reacted so positively and yeah, those horns! RIP Mr. Starr.
One of my favorite albums (long lost!!). He, Wilson Pickett and Al Green were among my favorites! (I can’t forget Otis Redding, either!😁).
Saw Edwin at the Barrowlands in Glasgow, managed to get a hug from him as he went off-stage. Amazing talent and such a gentleman.
The Genius of the LEGENDARY Iconic Mr Norman Whitfield ❤
This should be the official theme song for marathons.
This guy is so cool: I first heard this song in one of my favorite movies.Adventures in Babysitting circa 1987
The Funk Brothers kicking a## on this classic jam 💯
The same man who sang War the next year!
The second this tune started playing in THE BEAR (S2,E3:SUNDAE) I was on my feet dancing.
Don't think I'd heard it in twenty years, but my feet paid no mind and went!
BJ you know you would walk them 25 miles for Asia. The song was a marching band favorite for HBCUs.
Absolute jam! Going on the playlist ❤❤
Absolute jam, one of my favorites
This was our Scooter Club anthem in the 80’s! Visited the great man’s grave a few months ago!✌🏻🏴
Haven't heard this in ages. Good to hear memories.
Another Motown Masterpiece
What a groove😂❤
My iPad is onFIRE!!!oneof my most favorites songs of all time. Try standing still while listening to THIS!!! WALK ON………..
This is the groove style I grew up on. Maybe it's growing up outside of Philly but the soulful rocking speaks to me as if it doesn't notice the missing melanin content in my skin.
Awww ya can't stop me from movinggg😂💃🎵🕺 c'mon now!!!!! Woohoooo🔥🔥🔥
Great oldie guys - hard to sit still with this one💃💃Go BJ go!! Also check out "War" - such a powerful song, you won't regret it. Thanks so much for reacting to this hip artist.🧡
Loved edwin tdq top drawer quality was absolutely heartbroken when he passed a total one off just class
I glad you chose this song. Brings back memories.
This came out the year I was born. '68 was THAT year!!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE your reaction!!!!
Love him
A classic!
This song was on "adventures in baby sitting" in 87 or 88!
There was a lot of stomping going on with that song
There were no filters. We didn't even have reverb in 68. He probably recorded it in Phil Spector's studio, he had a concrete wall in his studio, it. Was called "the wall of sound". Singers would crank up their vocals and sing to that wall. The sound bounced off that wall and was recorded on the vocal track. Everything was analog back then, we had EQ to play around with, but that was pretty much it. Guitar players got wa wa petals, (the beginning of the effect petals boxes of today). Us sound people were lagging behind a bit back then, so when you hear great vocals from the 50's through to the 70's, those people had talent, and sang true, no filters. When they toured their fans expected the sound they heard on the radio, and those bands and singers delivered the whole package.
Brought back memories of seeing Edwin Starr do a 12 song set at a nightclub here in Halifax, England.
Was around the time Frankie goes to Hollywood released Pleasure Dome which had a cover of his track War.
12 song set which started with War, finished with War and featured War in the middle lol
Our Highschool students got kicked off the City bus because somebody had their Boom Box up LOUD.
This came on the radio as we were
"Walkin'🎶 home...feets didn't fail us and it made it fun😂
Try to sit still… I dare ya! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Classic soul
It was soo a sign of its time because so many groups were marching for their rights Woman, Blacks, Gays... to break it down to a simple a marathon to get to the one you love was genius to get acceptance for what really mattered, because everyone could identify with what you do for love. The rest of those agendas were put into perspective because they were human individual rights just like love.
also, to hear his voice separated "Edwin Starr "Twenty-Five Miles" My Extended Version...the BIG One!" soundtrack on UA-cam
This, War and Contact by him are ALL 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The Funk Brothers at their finest!!
You need to check out his first big hit, "Agent Double-O-Soul", which he recorder in the early 60's at the height of the James Bond/Secret Agent craze!
You’ve got to listen to Edwin Starr "I’ll Love You Forever". A softer side - a real groove!
And, yes, he’s from Motown!
4:28 - 4:31 you're channeling an old Blues singer there😂😂❤
Wow! I have not heard this for ages! Love it! Oh and BJ, you know I love you but one thing I have to say to you is...........GO EAGLES!!! lol I'm gonna have to get you an Eagles hat!
This is from the 1987 film adventures in babysitting
ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING!!!!!
Edwin star song with the group War
Aww, yeah. Take me back to real music. Listen to the horns and drum beats with a powerful vocal.
BJ, if you really like the sound of the musicians backing up Edwin Starr, you need to find a documentary about "The Wrecking Crew." You both will not only love it, you will get a great education in early rock & roll. There is another one that will blow your mind, "The History Of The Eagles." It too will give you the experience of what it was like back in the late 60's, early 70's. I highly recommend both. Y'all are so appreciative when you listen to, well, my musical history, and the foundation of that history. It warms my heart and makes me wish I could sit down and tell ya'll about how life was in the 60's and 70's, and how crazy it was hanging out on the Sunset strip. Keep up the good work, ya'll make me very happy ❤❤❤
The Funk Brothers were the musicians on this classic.
Check out agent double oh soul and SOS stopper on side along with war by Edwin Starr.
Edwin Starr also did the song War.
Good God What is it good for?
Get down BJ!!
This might be strange..but i would put this in my Zombie Killing re-mix...lol..
Hey guys! This is on the soundtrack from one of the BEST movies of the 80's. Please, please, please check out Adventures in Babysitting. Fantastic action, comedy with an AMAZING soundtrack. Perfect for your movie channel. Hugs and love from Canada! :)
Mr Starr's other big hit was "War".
Bust a move
MoTown at it's best.
This white boy needs more Funk in his life.
How you can long to see your darling. A shame this man died unrecognized and just past 60.
Ok
