1967.... This song was song of the Year for Glen Campbell. And these guys just breathed fantastic life into this old song!
It was written by John Hartford , an excellent song
Muito bom adorei❤
Glen Campbell would most assuredly be absolutely delighted to hear this outstanding update!
@@stevemarzocco4983ciao Steve! 🙋♀️😍😘💘🌅
@@stevemarzocco4983 It's John Hartford's song.
Haven't heard it more bass than John Hartford before. John Hartford (my hero) wrote this song and played it while dancing on a piece of plywood he carried to his shows. Story was that, while living in his station wagon, he was called to the record producer to get a royalties check. He asked, How much? They said 100. He thought $100, but they gave him a check for $100,000.
Glenn Campbell is smiling somewhere, Best barefoot group in music. Loved it!
Hey Chaps! Don't forget the great unbeatable John Hartford for writing these immortal lines. Sure, Campbell gets the credit too. But it's HARTFORD all the way.
Ha ha like a rhinestone cowboy
@@maverickmusic101 Oh yes. You bet, Maverick Music.
I wore out several pair of boots two steppin' to songs like this. Bill and Bonny Hearn, Red river NM. I'd like to hear you do New Mexico Rain. You'd do it proud! Michael
Just got a chance to see Lyndsey, Emily Grace, Mathew and Alex who make up the group Southern Raised. When you see a group that has a large UA-cam presence from posting Videos where you know they are playing to polished tracks, you wonder to yourself are they really that good in person? After seeing them perform at Dollywood twice yesterday they laid that question to rest. The live is just as polished as the track. They are my new favorite group for sure. I’m a bass player and I was blown away by Lyndsey’s solid bass work. Nothing fancy unless you consider her tasteful slide work, really her own style. Just loved this group and could go on for hours about how much I loved their show. Point being if you ever get a chance to see them live don’t miss it.
I have probably listened to Southern Raised sing this song more than anyone! Their voices & musical ability are unparalled! I think they are fabulous!!!
Words cannot express how much I freaking love this song. I used to listen to the Tim O'Brien with Bryan Sutton version on repeat. Thanks Southern Raised 🙌
Thank you!!
Have a listen to the THE MAVERICKS version Raul Maulo nails it

A magical song that stays with a person for hours!
Awesome job on the greatest song ever written.
The banjo is amazing. The whole collaboration is! Congrats.
Update From Western NC ,John Hartford wrote this song, he was a great writer and preformer
Really great version of this beautiful classic, well done Southern Raised! Pretty sure John Hartford would have enjoyed what you did with it.
This Glenn Campbell song was a hit around 1969. I had been wounded in Vietnam and was recovering in a VA hospital and can remember hearing it on the AM radio every morning. These young people I'm sure made everyone remember Glenn Campbell and their rendition is better than the original. Great job and thank you.
Thank you for your service
Yes thank you for your service ❣️
Nicely done. But I keep thinking, I wish I was fishing there. Gotta be some smallies.😅
Wow fantastic job on this one guys. I just love the vocals in harmonization. The instrumentals were perfect. You got a love the sound of that loan banjo. Good job guys you should really be proud of yourselves.
A masterpiece performed for an masterband. Thanks for this marvelous gift!
Another great performance from our favorite band.
"Good" doesn't have a genre. This group is excellent, so says this metal rocker.
Thank you, another great song selection and you Angels did it greatly. ❤❤❤
I saw John Hartford’s ghost in the background tap dancing and smiling!
I'm shedding tears and tears while I listen to your music, since I've been long long waiting for that you cover this bluegrass song. This is a really gentle tribute to John Hartford who is the man of real Southern Spirit. I love your voices in beautiful harmony. Again, I'm shedding tears and tears. Thank y'all for giving my satisfaction in commemorating John Hartford (1937-2001). Love y'all, Southern Raised. *** Hideki Okunishi: a Fiddle 'n Banjo Lover from the Far East ***
Wonderful music, I \Think Ole Glen Campbell would aprove. Real music, by real people. That's what I need. Plenty here
There's a saying I favor: "Southern by the grace of God."
Comes to mind seeing/listening to this take on the classic.
RIP Mr Campbell & t/y Mr Hartford.
Signed.
A Yankee w/ a Rebel heart. ;-)
I like the way the violinist plays the exact same part of the song with her feet in the water as she does standing. Great composition of the great Glen Campbell song. 🥰💕❤️
Babe wake up, Southern raised just released another brilliant cover!
Wet feet = Dry music for us all !!

John Hartforf (1940-2001) wrote this song, my all-time favourite C&W song. It is also a good poem.
Hartford. I was blessed to hear him in person at my university a couple times in the early 70’s.

I had possibly one of the worst days of my life today. Hearing this took me back to riding in the back seat of my cousin’s ‘66 Mustang with this song playing on the radio, and the girls singing along. What a GREAT day that was, and one of many. Yall’s rendition is beautiful! Thank you. I’ll bet there are some scrappy Bluegill and Smallmouth Bass in those eddying pools around you, too! You saved my day! 🌻
❤❤❤
Lord, please encourage Emily and help her through whatever she is going through. May she feel Your presence & Your love through all the ups & downs of her life. In Jesus's Mighty Name....
@@ObeyJesusOurLord A simple “thank you” just doesn’t seem like quite enough. . . Your prayer for me is so kind. I feel his presence. I really need this, and you’d better believe that you and all you love will be in my prayers-early and often. God bless you, ‘cause he blessed me with you!♥️🌹🌻
@@emilyevans6989 What a kind & sweet thing to say! Sometimes, in our attempt to encourage another, we end up getting blessed too! I look forward to meeting you when we are ushered into the presence of Jesus and these troubles are behind us! May our Lord Jesus bless & watch over you, Emily. Thank you so much for getting in touch & for your prayers as well! I can assure you that you'll be on my prayer list & I'll be asking God to intervene in your behalf!🙂🙏❤
@@ObeyJesusOurLord thank you for reaching out. Not only does your prayer fortify me, but your kindness brought tears of joy to my eyes and uplifted my heart. I’m not having much fun right now, but I must somehow come to peace with what has happened. I’m trying! Have a lovely day, and thank you again! 🌻

Lyrics:
t's knowin' that your door is always open
And your path is free to walk
That makes me tend to leave my sleepin' bag
Rolled up and stashed behind your couch
And it's knowin' I'm not shackled
By forgotten words and bonds
And the ink stains that are dried upon some line
That keeps you in the backroads
By the rivers of my memory
It keeps you ever gentle on my mind
It's not clingin' to the rocks and ivy
Planted on their columns now that bind me
Or something that somebody said
Because they thought we fit together walkin'
It's just knowing that the world will not be cursing
Or forgiving when I walk along some railroad track and find
That you're movin' on the backroads
By the rivers of my memory
And for hours you're just gentle on my mind
Though the wheat fields and the clotheslines
And the junkyards and the highways come between us
And some other woman's cryin' to her mother
'Cause she turned, and I was gone
I still might run in silence, tears of joy might stain my face
And the summer sun might burn me 'til I'm blind
But not to where I cannot see you walkin' on the backroads
By the rivers flowing gentle on my mind
I dip my cup of soup back from a gurglin'
Cracklin' caldron in some train yard
My beard a rough'nin', coal pile
And a dirty hat pulled low across my face
Through cupped hands 'round the tin can
I pretend to hold you to my breast and find
That you're waitin' from the backroads
By the rivers of my memories
Ever smilin' ever gentle on my mind
I just discovered this type of music. I’m hooked now 🌟
Hi from the UK, You guys are rapidly becoming one of my favourite bands, everything you create is beautiful.
All the groups I’ve seen in Branson MO are as good in person as they are on UA-cam videos. They seem to have some common denominators: talent, unpretentious music, and a straightforward, homegrown style! ❤
Loved the vocals here, and all the music. The song is classic! Great bluegrass.
Gentle on my mind written by John Hartford!
Lovely ! ❤ What a beautiful setting, beautiful harmonies, enjoyed this redo so very much !
Beautiful song, very well performed and a great video.
Best wishes from the U.K.
Браво!Bravo!🎵🎶🎼❤️⛪
Bravissimo! From Russia with love...
My favourite version of this song after John Hartfords original.
God bless John Hartford. In my opinion it’s not only John’s greatest song(other than “Golden Globes”(LOL), It’s gotta be one of the greatest songs and lyrics ever written. In Southern Raised has done a great rendition of that great song. More more more
